Ok, so I started off pretty gung-ho but I am starting to falter a bit and wondering what I am missing. Hoping you fine folks here will help me out as much as you did the first go round.
I am having a hard time finding fights. How should I go about doing that as a low-skilled character? My gut is telling me to either join a corp or join FW, but I am not certain that is right.
What I would love is a "Rookie Help" chat for those looking for the darker side of Eve Online. Coaching on suspect baiting, can flipping, ganking, espionage, awoxing, and all of these other cool things I read about and only have a marginal understanding of mechanically.
I don't enjoy missioning or mining really. I think I would really like high sec warfare, but how do I go about this early on?
I have half a mind to form my own corp, sell a plex for cash, and start warring on corps solo. I would surely lose a lot of ships, but it would be exciting! The only thing stopping me so far is the cash it would take (is it 50m to war?) with no guarantee that people would fight me. I suppose I could always just join other wars and hope for the best, but it seems like the big war corps are flying ships that would smoke my 75dps Rifter in a heartbeat.
I need a career agent for the darkside. |

Bad Guy School or Belligerent Undesirables(chat channels in game) are exactly what you're looking for. www.minerbumping.com for ganking. Convo me in-game sometime, we'll get started.

Why do you recommend a low sec corp? If I am interested in high security space warfare, and using tricks to bait others into combat, high sec seems like the natural place doesn't it?
I like the thought of tracking people down, tricking them, using their own folly to bring them down, etc.
Low security fighting seems a lot more stacked against me as an inexperienced, low skilled, player. |

A corp tends to help and can share a lot of knowledge with you. How to hunt, where, when. What you can take on or might want to avoid, etc, depending on what you are looking for. There are plenty of different groups you can join. FW groups are good, though you may not necessarily get fights just because you're in FW. Farmers will run regardless, and you're limiting yourself in targets to only your opposing militias (part of the reason I never really joined FW). If you're looking for a more lowsec lifestyle, piracy, etc, take a look at Stay Frosty. They're a pleasant bunch of blokes.

Not sure why you are interested in high-sec warfare if you're going to join a corp. I'd think High-sec was a little artificial when it comes to warfare. |

Its hard to get ahead without having someone show you the ropes. I remember way back when, I was doing the soe newbe arc when I got stuck on the last part. I yelled out in local to see if anyone else was doing it and I was fortunate enough to have two guys answer me. It turned out we all had a shared interest in pew pew and they kinda mentored me in the dark arts and I have been buds with them ever since. Just do what you like and ask folk lots of questions. Sooner or later you will come across folk with common interests that you click with and then you just proceed from there.
Also feel free to hit me up in game with any questions. |

Highsec PvP is special, mechanic-wise and from the mindset ... it's mainly about the tears and killing those who are not prepared for PvP without risking something. Some gank for profit. If you want to learn PvP and all it's facets, lowsec is IMO the better playground.

Then you get the helpful Agent, like myself, who does what they do because PvP is everywhere, highsec included. I've given more ISK and ships to newbros I've blown up than I can count. It's not always and only about the tears.

Perhaps I am just a jerk, but I don't think warring against an unwilling corporation in high sec is any different than waylaying an unexpecting industrialist coming out of low- or null-sec space, and I don't think that playing a shark in the swimming hole is always such a bad thing.
I am still not sure, exactly, what I would like as far as where to find the fights, and which fights to find, but I am definitely not going to rule out warring, ganking, or baiting in high sec (if I knew how to do them, ha!) nor would I rule out large fleet battles in null or low sec roaming.
I am not really a black/white player and want to experience all of it, but have a special affinity for the darker side of the game. |

I wouldnt say lowsec better - its just different. The reason to fight in highsec is that is where the majority of the players are. The reason to fight in lowsec is you dont have to worry about concord or bubbles, but you do have sec status. Fight in null if you care about sec status and dont mind bubbles, large blobs, ctas, etc. . . Or you can fight in wh if you want eve on hardmode and you dont mind infrequent action and no local. |

In regards to security status, is killing pirates in anomaly sites a viable way to boost your security status back up after taking hits? If not, what could be a viable way?

Lowsec pirate corps don't operate exclusively in lowsec, they are familiar with crimewatch, and they are a good place to learn combat.
Several of the well-known hisec "pirate" (I use that term very loosely here) corps, are where bittervets go to die, or are not really places for learning. Any idiot can become a hisec ganker and proclaim themself a pirate... and many do, but there is more to piracy and combat than just ganking will ever teach. |

I think the better buzzword when searching for pvp high-sec groups would be "mercenary". Some mercenary groups are better than others but they all generally focus more on war decs than ganking, so the play is a bit more interesting. And being a killer-for-hire means a wide variety of targets from day to day, ranging all the way from afk miners to leet pvpers.

Depending on your timezone there's several people from the dark side that may be willing to help you out with instruction.
If you're subbed drop a post in the crime and punishment forums, if you're not, evemail me with what you want to know and I'll post on your behalf and link you to the thread. The denizens of C&P love bloodthirsty newbies so you'll definitely get some offers of help and instruction.
Quote:I don't enjoy missioning or mining really. I think I would really like high sec warfare, but how do I go about this early on? lol I'm at this stage after 6 years of mining and missioning I've only just started getting more than accidentally involved in spaceship pewpew.
Depending on how you define warfare:
RvB: The closest Eve has to arenas, 2 corps in an eternal war; very casual, small ships, great people and never ending fights. While they have rules of engagement between them, there are no rules when it comes to 3rd parties. They often fleet up for joint ops and run public roams. Many of them are alts of people who also PvP elsewhere so you'll make plenty of contacts/friends for future fun and games.
CODE. are always very welcoming of newbies looking to start on the path to the dark side; many of them are experienced PvPer's in their own right and you'll make some useful contacts for further shenanigans.
There's also a C&P outreach program that is currently providing quality content for players in a rather large newbie/former bear corp, both in the form of opponents, help with tactics and ships, lowsec roams, structure bashes and generally having a riot at the expense of some trade hub station huggers. If you're interested, I can point you in the right direction.
Tactics and mechanical knowledge wise it may be worth doing the Agony Unleashed PvP basics course, it's a beginners class and the guys that run it know their stuff. While the course costs 20M isk there is, or used, to be a substantial scholarship on deposit from a now defunct gambling site; it's worth asking about it if you decide to give this a go.

Yep, 50M base cost per wardec. Solo you will struggle, not because of the ship you fly, but because you have no idea what you can with it. In the hands of someone who knows what they're doing most frigates capable of taking down far larger ships, unfortunately for you that experience takes time to acquire.
Without that experience, the strength of small ships is numbers, a fleet of bloodthirsty newbies in shitfit frigates can make a hell of a mess of far larger ships, even more so if at least one of them has a clue.

Ganking is just one thing that hs pirates do - and to do it well and make a profit actually requires some skill. As for other hs activities - mission invading, war decs, can flipping, etc... the trick to them is all the same - getting the other guy to actually fight, which in my opinion requires as much skill as dry humpping someone on a gate or at a station or blopsing or blobing or whatever. In truth, all forms of eve pvp are fairly simplistic - but they do get more complicated as you can experience.
