When I first started EVE I felt that I wanted to play the role of a GÇ£medicGÇ¥ as I normally do in multiplayer games; as I had created a Gallente character I skilled into Armor Logistics with the Oneiros. Eventually I managed to stumble into a system with an incursion running and asked in the pop up channel if anyone was looking for an armor logi but I was told to GÇ£FGÇ¥ off; that armor logis are useless.... that that put me off the idea entirely and I moved onto other things. I recently started playing again after a 18 month break and was stuck what I should do.
So my question is; are armor logiGÇÖs still useless and can someone give me some advise where I could start?
Thank you.

They are not useless but most incursion run shield so it make an armor logi useless for their fleet. |

Just fyi, nobody actually uses that automatic incursion channel. It's like trying to ask for advice in Jita local, minus the scammers. There's a couple armor fleets, you'll just have to research a little more to find them. There's a good channel with most of the different fleets, but I don't know what it is. |

This.
Logistics are generally appreciated, from my experience ... but there are some points to keep in mind.
Oneiros for armor and Scimitar for shield can be the lone logistic ship in a fleet, but it's usually better for their own survival to pair them with the same ship. In your case 2x Oneiros pilots. These ships are fitted to be cap stable. If you're a lone logi, you absolutely need good local tank.
Guardian (armor) and Basilisk (shield), unlike Oneiros and Scimitar are not fitted to be cap stable and therefore need to be paired with cap transfering ships ... usually a second or third ship of the same kind: 2x Guardians for armor tanking fleets and so on ... Since these logistics have to be paired anyway, they usually forego active local tank and repair each other.
For all 4 logistic ships, you absolutely need a high resist profile and usually defense against getting jammed by ecm.
Flying logistics is not particularly hard, but you should find a group with existing logistic pilots to show you the ropes. ... and you will train some skills to level 5.
Why do I say that ? Simply, if a fleet uses a dps ship, that's unfortunate and possibly costly to the one pilot who lost his ship. But if a fleet looses their logistic ships, they loose a lot more. Logistics is a force multiplier. Imagine 10 ships with a local armor repairer and no logistic support vs being able to fit one additional module on 10 ships while still having up to 3 (remote) repping modules on any of those 10 ships.
So your job is: stay alive stay on field manage repairs
I love logistics, can you tell.
My personal way led me over FW into blackbirds (ecm ships) to learn how fleets work and calm down in the face of danger. Then I switched to logistics.
Also, can someone explain what this thread is about?-á (Relax ! I'm just quoting Holgrak Blacksmith here.)

Just about any lowsec or nulsec corp would love to have you as an Oneiros pilot.
It isn't unusual for logi pilots to get fully reimbursed for losses, or even to get paid a bonus.
Keep in mind that the biggest skill difference between the races are the cruiser 5 skill. The logistics skill is common, and is the biggest hurdle. After that it is the tank and remote rep, but it doesn't take long to train level 4 for T2 (meta 4 is commonly used for remote-rep modules). |

Confirming that incursion fleets typically run with all ships shield-based, so armor repair is useless to them. Also, they may be rude to newbies because most of them run the incursions with experienced crews in order to maximize profits, and they don't feel like taking the time to explain things.
PVP fleets in lowsec and (war fleets) in null often run armor ships, so armor logistics is very sought after. How welcoming they are depends on the corp or the alliance running the fleets; typically they're more willing to accept new recruits, especially if it looks like you can learn fast and are willing to participate in a lot of the planned ops. Corps and alliances typically need active pilots.
All the advice about pairing up logistics (for capacitor stability) and ECM being your absolute nemesis is good too. ECM jamming (and dampeners to an extent) are the equivalent of stun-lock, which is death for healers. |

I highly recommend you find a Corp to join, Should not be a problem for you as logi pilots are popular people here, there's a reason we call them "logibros".
Ask one of the merc Corps if they would be willing (generally found in crime and punishment subbforum

As others have said, my experience is most of incursion runners are not even worth associating with. Just a farm and not pvp to them. This is coming from a person who was one of the first to successfully complete inc sites and first momship kill. Incursions suck nowadays from gameplay standpoint.
Large fleets, a dedicated oneiros pilot is well loved. Most pvp can make use of skilled logistics be it t1 or t2. Pve is pretty limited but higher class wormholes can really benefit.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, the information have given me some direction/s to follow. IGÇÖm thinking I might as well just get my Shield Emissions skill up to V so I can be flexible in both Armor and Shield if a fleet has need for a logi bro.

I was in a corp for 4 years but it became a job at home from my RL job. IGÇÖve only been in the NPC corp for 14 days... just trying to figure out what to do next.

Armor logi was never useless. Armor doctrine has been strong in null since days of old.
Incursions are an entirely different beast as you can't use capitals and the fights are completely different from null/wh/low. The thoughts for incursions basically come down to applied dps vs paper dps. On paper shield fleets are able to mount more damage increasing mods in lows while still mounting the required +100k EHP omni tank with 70% resists (stats without boosts). That holds true in Headquarter sites where that is the minimum requirement for public fleets. Assaults are kind of a middle ground as you're dealing with more frigates and a lot less DPS from the rats. You can run shield or armor equally effectively there. For vanguards you're shooting frigates 90% of the time so that's where apply your paper DPS becomes the issue. Armor works great in VGs because the tank requirements are low and using mids for webs/TCs/TPs/ETC really helps with hitting the little buggers.
I run armor doctrine in my VG fleet for the reasons stated above and because I can run two nestors and get effectively double the rep capability of the t2 armor logi. Since I'm boxing I can use the nestors to contribute to overall fleet dps via a full flight of gardes each.
That said there's a lot of hate that flows both ways when it comes to shield vs armor in incursion groups.
Message me in game on this character if you wish to discuss logistics further. |
