If cargo pods have passwords, ships should have them too. Undock ships in free space need some type of lock to be fare allow a hacker tool for ship repos thanks for any replies |

I think you mean Secure Containers, not Cargo Pods. Secure Containers have a password lock which can't be hacked and the Containers themselves have a lot of HP's which makes them less likely to be attacked.
Now while a password lock on a ship might deter a few players from using / stealing the ship, having a skill or module available which allows players to hack the password kinda defeats the whole purpose of having a lock on it, right ?
Years ago before everyone and their mothers started doing probing, players use to stash ships in Safe Spots for quick change when needed. Course that was back when 'Scotty The Docking Manager' use to take a minute or two just to undock your ship, let alone the time spent on docking and changing ships.
Currently it takes no time at all to dock, change ships and undock. Also nowadays there's more chance of the ship being attacked and destroyed if left locked in space compared to the chance of it actually being stolen.
Hopefully in the future when CCP adds 'Mooring' for ships at POS, they will enable a password lock with the Mooring to help secure the ship.
Anyway, +1 for posting the idea.

This feature sort of exists. You cannot board a ship that is being locked on by another ship. We once stole a proteus by disabling its capacitor and making the occupant eject. If it were not for his logi and the timely realisation of ejection the ship would have been destroyed. The logi prevented us from boarding it however, and needed to be destroyed / chased off in order to claim the prize.
In other words, you can prevent boarding but it requires a character to sit in space and lock up ships. |

Overall, I think passwording hulls and stuff could be interesting, but I would think that the addition of hacking tools to it would add a bit of flavour
Canisters and hulls, good example. I am not against ninja looting, but would like to see secure containers require a codebreaker to scoop and open. Essentially they anchor to space. Owners can scoop as per normal. Flag hacker as suspect ;-) Hacking is to transfer the ownership. Failures on the hack twice means.... boom
T2 containers for high security and one shot only so will need to invest in the ships and have high hack skills just to have a chance. F&I though...

Thanks for the reply's it does have some pros to it , as changing any aspect of current game play it faces limits. It might add to a players ease of mind but adds many new possibilities of player interactions both positive and negative. Maybe a new aspect of game play of recovery of older ships ( rare ghosts ships) in deep space as cosmic sing or over repo of stationed pirate ships or cargo pods. Thank you[:=di] |

Thanks for reply. If it might be something possible a ship can have a lock then a thief can have a means to get in. As a pos to the lock a limit of attempts or a timer for the thief might be needed, but the thief can come back to the same ship as many times possible. Thanks for the post. |

Thanks for the reply. Many other possibilities not only for ship protection or ninja looting, but new game play of recover of ghost ships as cosmic sing or mystery containers at agent missions are possible. Thanks for reply |

Nah, I always love going by POSes where either the fuel ran out or there was no password. Why should your carelessness be rewarded? |

Maybe but different interactions with eve gameplay might be more interesting to pass a lock with a code breaker than a pick up of a others carelessness. thanks for the reply

At least for capitals and supers this makes sense. It should be ruled by corp roles, for example a director should be able to overrule the lock, and it might have to be limmited to hangars an POS shields. Maybe it could also be realized as a small mobile structure, like an anchor, that could as well be reinforced and blown up to get the ship. Hacking is an interesting idea as well. Overall, I think it is an interesting idea. |
