are guns on low sec gates going to be useful?
I thought CCP were taking about esculating the applied damage the longer you sit on a gate?

Lowsec guns are about right in damage. But i find the warp off and they never reagress a little siliy. I abuse the crap out of it however.
Working with gate gun DPS on grid is a great way to solo. You can often hit well above your class if your cunning.
If they had a lot more DPS i think you just would never get anyone going flashy on a gate.

I'm not complaining about gate camps. I just don't see the point in having guns when you can sit logi on a gate all day and blap anything that goes through.
That's a bit of a let down i was looking forward to seeing some good game play if the guns were actually going to target criminals. pretty rubbish that. |

If people are going to sit under gate fire for extended periods of time, they have to commit a pile of ISK onto the field. I don't see any problem people risking their stuff in order to pitch tents and camp. |

Basicly the devs are telling you the primary prerequisites setting up a gatecamp are attainable by players pretty quickly. In fact, it offers a fitting challenge to account for that extra damage. Also, current sentry re-engagement rules are pretty awesome and promote more awareness of the grid AND offer options to ships that would otherwise get blapped to engage. The point is a small barrier of access to setting up a chokepoint. |

You're not instadocking properly then. Do what I do:
1. Make instadock BM 2. Warp off somewhere where you can warp back to your BM 3. Right click station->Set Destination 4. Warp to BM(Works better if the station is >20 AU for autopilot to actually kick in) 5. Turn on autopilot while in warp 6. Land on grid and you'll instantly dock without any need for command 7. You're in station now

once you get past a certain sized gang there isn't really all that much you can do to gate guns to make them useful without the system also punishing small gangs too much.

so good gameplay is gate guns being untankable? sounds like bad gameplay imo

Yea the autopilot trick is something to try for next time (your not the first to suggested it). But apparently you can still get unlucky with server ticks. Just less often than mashing dock.
Either way, we don't want uber guns everywhere. And a logi is easy to deal with at this scale. Its called damps, or jams or plain old dps.
Last camp i came across, i tried using a falcon on the logi and held the DPS under gate guns with a deadspace hauler. Unfortunately others turned up and moved my cheese.
