Why have CCP Devs taken to using Reddit more than the official Eve-O forums?
Compared to 2-3 years ago, these forums are dead, yet when I read articles on 3rd party websites or listen to podcasts, I'm inundated with "CCP [insert name] said on Reddit" or "blah blah was confirmed by CCP [insert name] on a Reddit post".
Have CCP abandoned their own forums in favour of Reddit?
BTW, serious question, not a rant.

Perhaps, it would make sense to ask this question... on Reddit

Every change leaves the badguys just about to fall.
We just need more coalitions to exist to destroy them, more legions to be paid off, more lasersov, more something!!

I only take issue when they announce something elsewhere before they do so on their own damn forum or one of their dev blogs. That I take issue with.

I agree with OP. Reddit is a cesspit populated by the obnoxious vocal minority of EVE. Listening to them will kill the game eventually. The same minority that convinced CCP Walking in Stations was somehow not wanted by the community and yet there are threads with thousands of supporters for it. Just a single example.
IMO devs should be free to post wherever they choose, but respond to players and/or take player feedback only on the official forums. |

As a counter to your statement, I would argue that using the long established "CCP [insert name]" as their username or actively identifying themselves as a CCP employee whilst taking part in a discussion about a CCP game means that they're never truly "off the clock".

if they don't like talking to us that's our fault really but i think anything that directly effect us in a tactile way should be sourced here rather than anywhere els

Most people were fine with what CCP dangled in front of us as walking in stations, what CCP delivered and the manner in which it was done is what put people of it; especially in light of the broken state of the game at the time.

The vocal minority here is just a different minority from there.
That non vocal majority of EVE players is not in either.
That is like, a no brainer.

Really ?
The people in forums, here or there, are just minorities, and vocal.
That NON VOCAL majority of the playerbase just dont voice their ideas, so they are in no forum.
C'mon, that is just logic.

That is like, a no brainer. From what I've seen, the vocal minority on reddit and other player sites (kugu/shitheap) who derailed every discussion are 'gamers'. Often very young ones (or just juvenile/immature) gobbing off with memes to show off to their peers. But they're like locusts moving from alliance to alliance (or game to game) and they're not particularly loyal to anyone. They love attacking CCP (for street cred, yo) and they're more or less brainless ninnies nobody should pay any attention to. But they are damn noisy.
The rest of us are EvE players. There is a difference. A lot of us like each other, regardless of affiliation. Tbh I think we're the core playerbase, and the rest are trash. If they can't be converted (and we should try) they should be kicked. To Star Citizen or w/e.
Also, whenever I post I take into account the comments/attitude of people I've spoken to ingame rather than just gobbing off for a few cheap karma points. So that non vocal majority is represented. Not just me doing it either.

The rest of us are EvE players.
If I take the approach of THIS IS JUST A GAME, the vocal majority here deffend, then I must say, anyone who plays eve is an EVE Player.
If I take the approach of THIS IS JUST A GAME, then no matter how or why I play eve, anything here is, just a game, therefore it has no impact on anything else besides the game itself.
So, if I dont take the approach of "THIS IS JUST A GAME", it doesnt matter who does, they dont speak for me.
Since I play EVE and I dont take the approach of "THIS IS JUST A GAME", and so does other people, their views are also part of the spectrum of views.
When we take a look closely to what is said around, I am pretty sure that the prevailing voice here and there are just focused on one tiny part of the spectrum of views from people who plays EVE.
Since the game priviledges all of them, priviledging one of them automatically turns against the other.
As I said before, I feel that CCP does the right thing when they do the right ammount of things that appeal to all the views, and regardless of that, there still people who thinks EVE should priviledge either minority to "save the game".

I'm not a gamer, I'm not 14 and I can't be arsed with you lot, you waste my time. Or the other strange tier of argumentative mushrooms that keep popping up on every forum and want to engage in this **** endlessly. Your opnion is your own, and if you're not prepared to stop and consider mine why the hell should I bother? Thanks for sharing yours, toodles, carry on.

At Reddit, there is no minority, they all post thus vocal. That is the sole purpose of their site.
Of course both have lurkers, but that is still not considered the majority or minority, and often not even actual members of a community.

I have recently started reading about Eve on Reddit more so than here because of the extraordinary negativity on these forums. In my experience, Reddit is a breath of fresh air in comparison.

Extraordinary? Hyperbole I think.
These forums are fine, Reddit is fine. Posters will be different, they're just people, and it takes all kinds to make a community. Although I don't read Reddit often, I will when things are slower around here.
I am with Mr. King-Griffin, these are the official forums, and source announcements/blogs should be posted here first.

I would guess these forums are particularly difficult for CCP to deal with. Here, there are about 2% of the posters making 95% of the posts, and most of them play pigeon chess and generally crap all over every thread.
The conversation migrated to reddit because these forums are dominated by the keyboard diarhea of a tiny number of people. |

I agree.
Rarely ever see a CCP Dev interacting with the playerbase here in their own 'Official' forums yet we constantly hear about them doing it on Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, Podcasts, etc.

No it's tied to the practice of product placement, a very old practice for marketing. It's just about getting the brand name out there. Good or bad, you are still irrelevant if you are never noticed. CCP has had this thing with social media for many years, shouldn't be a sudden shock for most here.

Actually more than most games have done that I've noticed. I remember even when the UO forums were shut down, certainly not due to inactivity, lolarious good times those first few years. But some people you can never please, always going to be something. They do, they just to in other places as well, of which EVE players congregate as well.
