Hi! I have just bought an Orca, and I was planning on Mining Omber to sell at Jita, And I was wondering how effective mining with drones would be, opposed to using a barge or a exhumer? I'm Not in a corp, and I was also thinking of joining a Mining corp, is there any around Jita that are accepting?

The Orca isn't a mining ship. If you want to mine, you want a barge or exhumer.
Also, mining is a horribly bad way of making money, especially if you just sell the ore.

Mining is a fine way to make money as long as you have someone giving you boosts.

i think you should sell the orca, because it doesn't sound like you have a clear picture of what it's for. you can buy one later if you ever need it |

Start there. With the exception of doing belt ratting or low-level exploration in highsec, pretty much anything on that chart will beat mining as an income source.

Mine the minerals, build ships, sell them on market.
Or mine the minerals, sell them on market but you would need to mine a lot to make good isk. A mate of mine does that, in null-sec, with 5-6 miners, mining throughout the weekend, with boosts, and thats about 4-5 billion isk on a good day.
Been around since the beginning.

If earning ISK is your goal, go to the eve-mogul website and be amazed by the amount of ISK you can earn trading:
https://www.eve-mogul.com/leaderboards
When you realise some of those characters (eg. Rita Jita) have only been tracked for a few months, you'll understand why market trading, while boring for many, is the best way to earn ISK if you are dedicated.
So:
1. Train trading skills 2. Read the market discussions forum 3. Use relevant 3rd party tools 4. ???? 5. Profit big

Yes.
It's not too much training either, you can train other things just for fun factor and not worry about making big money with whatever else you choose to do. Even training alts for trading is worth it, so you don't tie up your main to a station or region.
But yes, there are a lot of ways to earn isk, and it's probably more important to pick something that doesn't burn you out as boring or frustrating things can do that depending on the player and what they consider too boring.

One of the rare areas of the game where it really does matter if you have played this game for years or not, or are willing to do heavy Money->PLEX->ISK->BPO investment to maybe one day break even. I just don't see industry as a good choice for someone to start out in with intent of making ISK compared to other things. But, if they just like it, regardless of the drawbacks, well then that is something for them to do in this game.

Miners Hello EVE, Ever since I started playing EVE, there has been many ups and downs. Some would say more downs then ups but then I am a miner/ marketer by career. The numerous amounts of ships were a good idea and the overhaul on ideally superior ships to those in there similar class was another good idea but to other ships it was an outrage. An example is the Typhoon it was and still is one of the most extensively skilled ships in its category. My question is why? Why train all those skills needed to fly it properly to suddenly see the skills wasted for that ship. Another example removing cloak able warp drives on Covert ships like the Widow or the Panther (covert ships that in my opinion already under gunned). The turning of the Typhoon into missile ship was disheartening. Why one may say! Because the pilot who flew that ship (Typhoon) at that time would have just skilled for projectiles weapons! The upgrade now made that ship worthless and forced the pilot to learn missiles skills. I know this probably helped CCP in the extra pocket money but for the player that meant at least 2 more months (of real life) in training on a ship that already took months and months to fly. Now on to the tears a pirate would call it. ItGÇÖs what I call the miners *****. There is several to put it lightly, so IGÇÖll begin with the most obvious. The minersGÇÖ ships! CCP upgrades have been nothing more than BS in my opinion. Allowing the mining ship to mine farther away using a leadership link was cool but then making the Asteroid belt farther apart defeated the purpose of the upgrade and to say CCP did it so the miner has a better chance of escape is BS as well MWD undoes that small distance of false security. Anyway on with the tears! If by chance a veteran player has a Hulk mining ship with T2 shields, skills trained in shields and armor to a mastery V and another pilot in an Orca using a mind link to aid in areas mentioned. A 30 days disposable character can still destroy a T2 Hulk (1 billion ISK ship WTF). And before anyone starts their BS read on. The miner in EVE is the building block for the making of weapons, missiles and ammo the producer of all ships and structures in EVE and isnGÇÖt able or capable of making a better mining ship to with stand even a newbie. We get that weGÇÖre the gazelle or deer for the hunter in the game. But are hands are so tide and the belts provide such low profit that the replacement often leads to the end of that player career. The miner only can do so much with an exhumer. The Pirate can upgrade to a better ship, use better guns or get another disposable character to get the job done in killing a miner. The miner has no such options. Buying better shields for an exhumer is just a waste of ISKGÇÖs more money for the producers; it does nothing for exhumers pilots. The private can purchase cloak warp able ships to surprise their intended victim. The miner can only point and hope. The miner has a frigate (a very small ship) that can cloak and warp so the technology is there but cannot exploit it for a bigger and faster mining ship to explore Null or Low Sec. systems. The frigates ore/ cargo hold is to small not enough room for even drones meaning cloak and wait or cloak and go. Without a cloak and warp able mining exhumer (medium size vessel) profits from mining in dangerous systems is a joke. HereGÇÖs an idea for a mining ship one we already have. Allow the Orca to be modified as a new version so it can be the miner crown jewel at mining in Null-Low sec system covertly. Get the scientists busy adding 2 high slots for a Warp able cloak and a probe launcher with enough power and CPU to install the extended probe launcher so a miner can scan down those lost drones left behind to replenish his drone count lost in space against the ravaging space Rats. Add 1 medium slot so a miner can add the extra drone module to be use in its defense or for mining those Null-Low sec. ores. Drones are that ship only defense against those dangerous systems. Now to take advantage of the only Capital mining ship so big that it has to stay in Null-Low sec the Mighty Rorqual. Granted itGÇÖs allowed inside a POS shield to operate and thank you for not nerfing that by the way, but how many miners out there want to train to use it just to find out they canGÇÖt because the ships needed to mine say ICE in Null-Low need a support team to fend off the Rats alone not to mention pirates and hostile Alliances just looking for POS to pop. Making it economically a bad investment for a miner to own/use! Yes the Rorqual has Jump Drive (thank the Empress) but it needs to be able to do more for the miner than make clones, which really should be able to make drones or mining gear like mining lasers or mining crystals instead. Yes that would mean keepings blue prints on board and separate cargo areas like one for fuel (has it), ore (has it), storage (has it), and mineral and Ice compression storage (needs it) holds. The ship is huge and beautiful for goodness sake and should be able to defend itself against rats and 30 day characters causing the pirate to work for his booty for a change. (Wipes eyes) There it had to be said help the miner damn itGǪ

Get a cloak and take your Orca into a wormhole. You can stuff the Orca with a gas miner, ore miner, etc and throw in an exploration ship to scan down anoms and a combat ship to cya or run sites. Or don't take it into WHs and do the same thing. |
