So I use the 2 step authorization security for literally everything in life email/brokerage/gaming. I just got my first alt account this weekend for EVE and am perplexed by it's constant bickering at me no matter what on the alt account for the verification code 100% of the time upon login.
I understand the obvious answer of check the box 'Don't ask for codes again on this computer' but that doesn't work. My main account has 0 issue what so ever with this, be it on the website or in the game. The alt account has 0 issue on the website, but cannot be remembered by the client at all what so ever. What is the solution to this? Is there a txt file I can edit somewhere in my AppData folder to make it remember my second account? This has to be fixable as I don't see anything when I google search concerning this problem, so people must've run into this before, I can't be the only person in the entire world with alt accounts using 2 step verification.

Did you try to clear the cache? Open launcher settings > advanced > clear all cached data. |

Well this just made things even worse.
Now when I launch the game it doesn't remember any of my usernames at all, and it now requires the verification code for both accounts on every single login instead of just the 2nd account.
How do I fix this, this is frustrating as hell.

Alright here's the solution which makes no sense at all what so ever. This is exactly what I did in order for it to magically work now:
Turn off Auto-Play, Uncheck close launcher after eve client startup w/e.
Log into account 1 verification code etc, then before pressing play I hit switch user account.
Log into account2 verification code etc, then exited the launcher.
Restart launcher and this time don't log in to any account instead open settings and now select clear ONLY CACHED USERNAMES.
Close launcher.
Open launcher repeat:
Log into account 1 verification code etc, then before pressing play I hit switch user account.
Log into account2 verification code etc, then exited the launcher.
For no reason at all this combination of stuff works. If you clear the cache and clear the username cache it doesn't work. If you do it in another order it doesn't work. But if you do these exact steps in this weird order. It works.
You can also re-enable auto-play/close after launch and it'll be fine still.
Coding?!?! \o/

I just press cancel and it go right in to the game when it says enter activate code. So its a broken system. If i can cancel it then well every one can do that. |

c:\program files\ccp\eve\bin\exefile.exe
Launch the game with that. The verification code is only needed when you try to login via the launcher.
I only open the launcher when opening from exefile tells me incompatible build - then i close the launcher after it's updated and re-launch exefile.

Simply disable the two factor authentication. As mentioned above and as mentioned by ccp in their devblog tranquility doesn-Št use this at all. The two factor authentication simply is a "layer" above the launcher and the webservices, "faking" a level of protection that is not there.

As they said Tranquilitys code seems to be to complex for them to integrate this as it should be, to fullfill its purpose. But they developed it anyway and integrated the two factor authentication as a simple "layer" whitout any function above the launcher and the webservices, "faking" a level of protection that is not there. Wasted DEV time for a feature that does nothing at all and lies to every user :)
That's inaccturate, you have to have the verification code to access the account management area of the website which is what would be used in the case of account compromise to actually change passwords/emails/steal the account. If someone can log onto your character fine, your right that's a dev issue/failure, but it won't cause you to lose your entire account like disabling it entirely has the opportunity to do. Worst case is what? You lose a few hundred billion isk that CCP goes and gets back from the hacker anyways via a support ticket. Woop Dee Doo. I'd much rather deal with that then losing the account integrity entirely and having 0 access to it.

I'd not disable the auth as i quite like it for account security.
The day you get an e-mail from a service that uses a 2nd form of authentication that someone from Russia has tried to access your account - makes you realize how good the service is and how it can save you from a lot of pain (I had this happen within the last month with Steam)
Just use the exefile to bypass the launcher. Only run the launcher when the game needs updating. Best solution to your problem there :) |
