Is there a consensus on this? I understand that every individual has their own set of qualifiers, but what made you gravitate to the race you chose to play?
For me, Minmatar was an easy top choice due to the one-two punch of badass backstory (violent slave uprising to break free from religious zealotry) and their overall ship aesthetic (Rifter makes my heart flutter). On the flip side, the Amarr were the least appealing because of their fanaticism. Haven't delved too far into the overall lore yet, but I've always been fascinated by the psychology that goes into the character choices we make in games like these.

I went through every single option carefully and it basically came down to becoming either a Jin-Mei Gallente or a Vherokior Minmatar and I liked the stories of both, just liked how my Vherokior character turned out better. (way cuter)
After that decision I wanted to know what it would be like to be that stereotypical Vherokior. I've found out they are wanderers, shrewd traders, women run most clans, pretty common to see Vherokior as small business owners. So I started my own corporation of wandering explorers.
I like having nice things so I buy the best clothes and ship skins I can from the big trade hubs. Since we're all immortal and pretty much demi-Gods, I like to go out to lowsec on occasion and fly my Rifters and Kestrels.

EDIT: Can't remember in detail why I choose Galente ... was just the most appealing visually and story-wise (not polarizing, extreme) I think. I joined 2 years ago, where the race didn't matter anymore for the gameplay.

Is there a consensus on this? I understand that every individual has their own set of qualifiers, but what made you gravitate to the race you chose to play? Erm... very, very broad question.
Gameplay-wise... There is no functional difference between any character of any race. All characters...
- more or less start out with the same number of skillpoints - have access to the same bonuses and skills (see: you can train any skill in the game) - do not gain a particular bonus or penalties for respectively flying racial or off-racial ships or weapons
When it comes to the racial ship lines though...
- Gallente have a solid line up of Tech 1 and Tech 2 ships. Their only real limitations comes from their preferred weapon system (Hybrid Blasters... which are SUPER short range facemelters) and the inherent frustrations with drones.
- Caldari have a so-so line up of Tech 1 ships (some exceptions apply) with some really fantastic Tech 2 ships peppered here and there. People poo poo on missiles a lot (which about half of all Caldari ships prefer and use) but they are quite good in skirmish and small-scale warfare.
- Amarr ships tend to be "on-trick-ponies" in terms of what they can do, with exceptions littered throughout. However they do their "one trick" pretty damn well when you organize a group of players around it.
- Minmatar ships tend to be more "fast and furious"... not having the tanking abilities that other races have (exceptions apply), but making up for it with above average speed, higher damage application, super-high volley strikes, or some combination of those three.
Lore-wise... It is up to you to decide.
How did you Veterans start?

From a sociopolitical standpoint, Gallente would be my second choice, even if their ships are a little peculiar. Caldari ships however are quite sexy and I'll probably take some of them for a spin at some point.
I mu say though that I love the "get in, pound them hard, get out" aspect of Minmatar warfare. Suits me best.

I'm primarily a role-player in any MMORPG I play, so I considered my character background carefully. There's a whole range of motivations that drew me to the Gallente and the lore of the Federation.
I like the ship styles too (aside from the really space potato shapes) especially the Navy Comet and the Incursus. One day, I might get to fly a Megathron too . I've also come to like drones and their uses, and want to get advanced in their use.
I think most people are influenced by the aesthetic of the area they start, but develop past the racial choice fairly rapidly. I suppose you get used to certain styles of play - for example, I got used to shields very early on, and then got a bit panicked when learning armour tanking as the shield (outer) ring went down so much faster than before - till the red stopped abruptly in the second ring.
Humanity has won its battle. Liberty now has a country.

Gallente and Amarr dress the best (talking about the general populace; capsuleers have access to the NEX store which evens out the fashions). Caldari are too... drab, and Minmatar don't seem to have any sense of fashion. |

as for the minmatar, they are too busy fixing oil leaks, and duct-taping their rust contraptions that they call spaceships to worry about wearing fancy clothing.

There is no point to speak about ships / weapon systems in this matter, IMHO. Everyone can train everything, start up set of skills does not matter in the long run.
Even faction warfare limitations is not an issue. Anyone can join any faction players-made corporation. Which is very wrong, but only from my point of view, please no pressure here.
What matters is the face you will be starring at. A lot. And if you do not degrade this game into pew-pew shooter only, you will also get that warm feeling, that you are fighting for the right guys.

By being unwelcome in Gallente and Farmatar empire space, I choose Caldari and Amarr.

Amarr do not come with complimentary shades, they are therefore the worst race.
There are no good looking Minmatar women.
It's a toss up then between Gallente and Caldari. If you don't mind the stench of body odor and garlic, I would say Gallente are the better out of the two. |

Zihao wrote:Caldari are warmongers? Didn't we attack them first? Well, less attack and more force them into the Federation and treat them terribly.
Anyhow, I found the Caldari to be very appealing.
Caldari, at least as I saw it, were isolationists, wishing to be left alone.
The Gallente tried forcing them into the Federation. (Or well, co founding it.) We split off, which caused a war.
The Intaki almost split off too, which may have lead to the Mannar splitting off, so the Feds exiled any Caldari sympathizers in the Intaki population, despite many not have taken any actions.
Damn those CONCORD bastards and their ways...
