I can't see how the limitations can be a money thing, as an online survey works on economies of scale. It would be just as easy to do all Eve players.
This suggests a targetting of th U.S. market. If the survey did not include "playstyle" I wouldn't mind.
However this now suggests that Eve development direction is driven by the biggest potential market, rather than by ALL players.
No dumbing-down of Eve? We'll see.... |

Could it also mean that CCP will begin heavy advertising in USA? Perhaps thats the reason for the survey? Maybe we will see the EVE movies/adverts on SciFI and Vid.Game Channels.
My guess it is just the thoughts of expanding further, you must admit that EVE is heavily dominated by the European player base.
This sounds like a good business descision, but, I still am worried a little bit. Since WOW is too bloody popular in USA and the City Of Heroes and City of Villains, and those are all "baby" games. Dont want EVE turning into something like that, where there is no real risk involved.

Edited by: Venkul Mul on 19/12/2006 09:57:22 While I would like a general survey, with results sorted by country, I have a high hopes that EVE will never become too easy. The fusion with White Wolf is a good indicator that even on the USA market that isn't the probable market strategy, as WW has based his success in the RPG field primary on games for a mature audience, capable of accepting losses and hardships for the playing character.

Edited by: insanebe on 19/12/2006 14:48:10 europe has a population of 710 million people (thats europe not the E.U which is 500 million) so to find the game populated with lots of europeans shouldn't be that suprising however i actually believe that the number of non europe countries is higher than people realise... and is due to different time zones knowledge is power.... guard it well |

If EVE ever got WoW's 7 million subscribers CCP would be very, very happy. CCP just purchases White Wolf Games, an American company. If nothing else they need a better idea of what American gamers want for the NEW game. That and WWGS is going to release an EvE PnP sometime next year (probably). Means more US exposure soon. On the other hand it also means that a backlash against EvE could hurt WWGS core products.

I'm a US EVE player and I didn't get any email about this survey. Was I supposed to get it by now? Do I have to do something special to get it?

Same here, no E-mail. Has anybody gotten theirs yet? Maybe the poll starts at midnight (or is this a random sampling)?

They coudl be targeting the US because Privacy laws are really slack there. They can't get away with so much in the EU, though that depends on what was agreed to during sign up... speaking of which... where is the privacy policy for Eve?

When asked what board games EVE players like playing, the results were pretty much as I expected. Monopoly was in the lead with 62.2% followed by Chess with 57.6%. Interesting poll, overall. I wonder what will come of it.

You've read it wrong kerushi, its a confusing sentence with alot of negatives, but it is saying essentially:
CCP does not garantee that personal info <snip> will not be disclosed to third parties.
They DON'T garantee that they WON'T disclose info.
Meaning that they can if they want to.
It's a confusing sentence and i advise CCP to revise it and make it clearer, but CCP can do whatever it wants with your e-mail adress. _________________________________________________________

if that`s true, lets just give out every one`s info to every one
this clause is ment to protect our information from being given out, lets just remove it completly

If I am reading it right, then CCP could be breaching some EU rules if it send out our mails. However, Iceland isn`t a part of the EU because of fishing quotas (this could change after yesterdays announcement but i didnt look into it too deeply) so may be exempt from this. Besides, if a USA playerbase starts to come in from mass advertising they will be inferior to the EU playerbase because they have 4 years of catchup and experience to work on. Are they planning on making an American server or just trying to take the fight to Blizzards stronghold?...

DANGER!!!! CCP, don't do this. Don't end up like SWG and SOE. This is a great game. Continue to develope the game with your own free creative minds and by being in touch with ALL of your players. EVE has made it this far with no help from bullsh*t marketing and focus group a-holes. There's no reason to turn down that dark, deseptive and gready road now. "Easier to play" and "more actiony" will destroy this game. DON'T DO IT.
U.S. player by the way and by no means a great pvp'er, but I wouldn't dumb down a thing.
Please everyone who sees this reconize it for what it is. Don't take it lightly. Protest loadly, scream bloody murder.

I filled it out. I was kind of surprised by my answers tbh. I realized that I'm steadily playing Eve less and less. Why? Because of changes like Warp to 0km and probe nerfs reducing my opportunities to kill other players. in short, the game play changes have nerfed solo piracy a great deal and it's greatly affecting my game play. Quite lame.
And as for the guys commenting about US players liking only PVE: I'm in the US and I filled out my survey 100% pro PVP, and 100% anti PVE. So PVP votes are safe with US players .
If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer. |
