Good day, Summit.
I would like to announce the existence of Genetic Angels Laboratories. While the existence of this non-capsuleer-organization was previously kept a secret, a recent observer of an experimental procedure has already announced that it indeed, is a place. Genetic Angels Laboratories does not exist solely for the sake of dangerous science experiments, though, and I should hope that what follows will justify my actions in the eyes of my peers.
I will start with the reason I purchased the labs and hired a team of geneticists, hematologists, physicians, and surgeons. The purpose of Genetic Angels Laboratories, a small sub-program of Scope Works, is to help those displaced by the constant fighting. Our goal and primary purpose is to provide cheap or free medical help to those whose lives are being destroyed by constant fighting, and to provide them a way into the Faith if they choose to do so. Voluntary reclamation with a small staff of priests.

Yes, it is true we have an experimental laboratory. In my own na+»vet+¬, I did not stop to think about the implications of this particular strain of research. We used actual Jove DNA samples, preserved from an incident years ago, and not the monstrosity that is the Drifters. To clarify the "99 percent" statement. That was a gross generalization by myself afterwards for what happened. Proper precautions were taken to prevent organ failure and other problems from destroying his clone. As for the Jovian Disease, I cannot speak to whether the samples used carried that.
It did not even begin to occur to me that I was altering someone of True Amarr descent, and for that, I accept true responsibility. However, for all intents and purposes, Jove DNA is still a double helix and composed of the traditional nucleotides. It is not beyond modern genetic science to splice it with others, as it is overtly human, even if it is strongly modified. In my mind, it was a sure shot, and the thought of advancing my knowledge with the help of my scientists overwhelmed the realizations for what I was doing.
My hope was to use this science down the road to help those in need. I am but a fledgling in my faith and did not realize that gross genetic modification was against the scriptures. For that, I will submit myself to those who know more than I when I come for a confessional.
My ethics were lacking in this operation, for certain, but I can say with certainty that the only persons injured or caused pain to no person other than the recipient of the procedure. And I accept full responsibility for the actions taken, as the donor for the genetic material was not knowledgeable of how I would be using it. If I am to be excommunicated from my peers, I will accept my punishment and carry on my studies in my faith on my own. If I am to be targeted in space, then may God forgive me for those I destroy in defending myself. I can only hope that God will see that I did not take these actions in any way to defy Him, but were done with the end goal of venerating Him. |

Borkstar is False Amarr, not True. There is little worse you can do him than he has done to himself already.

Ms. Risen,
We know each other professionally, and as peers of the Faith we share. You and we each have taken oaths.. professional oaths.. that bind us to those whom we serve with the License and Office we have been awarded. You are a doctor, and your primary oath is to Do No Harm to your patient who puts his life in your hands. You seem to be aware of your unethical behavior, but your admission to it seems rather callous and unpenitant.
The DNA samples collected cannot be exercised as if acquired for Reclaiming. You have an obligation to announce your intent.. not to the religious community.. but to the scientific community who are your peers who could have advised you on ethics.

Dr. Borkstar is your patient, and he was and still is at your mercy. Your oath was broken when you knowingly exposed him to a disease which is crippling to the most technologically advanced Human race in the Cluster. You have no writeup and no concern about how you may have introduced these potentially infectious samples into cloning banks shared by hundreds and thousands of other Capsuleers every single day. Do CONCORD biotoxin filters have the ability to filter out whatever it is that constitutes Jovian Disease?
How are you aware of the implications of your experiment if as a Doctor you gave no consideration to the presence and proliferation of disease?

At the soonest possibility.

I cannot address my lack of ethics in this operation... I can address that so far as we know, the Jovian Disease is purely genetic and noncontagious. We had an entire wing set up for quarantine in case of contaminants, and can find none, even like the Kyonokie particles. He was explained all risks and such and approved them... But I am truly sorry for my oversteps and lack of checking with others in the community. My own scientists voiced concerns both before and throughout the procedure. I have no excuses to offer for my behavior.

No. The hope was to use this to find ways to help those who might be helped through genetic therapy, and this was an extreme case. I should never have undertaken it. |

Ethics is a game for sciolists and chatterboxes, dabbling in pseudo-science, who can't do real job. So, all this ethics-crap aside, could you please answer a really important question? I believe you have obtained some interesting results.
Have you got a publication?
Your work looks really interesting! We with colleagues would gladly use your work and refer to your publications to help you with citation index. Does your work have great fundamental value? Or applied? Or can be already commercialized? We will gladly help you in any case, and it could be a long and fruitful collaboration between our laboratories! Of course, if you won't ever again write anything about ethics. |

When you are dealing with an organization that serves to be your one stop source of terror mayhem followed up with hugs and rainbows after plundering your assets, there's no need to worry if said group "lacks" ethics.

Seraph, as you are well aware I have spent a great deal of time in your facilities these last several days. I did, and still do, consider the procedure conducted as unethical for a physician. However, I do not think that closing the labs is the best course of action. Nothing can be gained from this. There is still much opportunity to do great work with the eminently professional and qualified staff there. The medical facilities are well above the standard in that region, and the medical personnel handled themselves extremely well under pressure - I myself put that to the test (please offer my sincerest apologies to your lead physician).
It is better that you keep the facility open and focus instead on serving those in need of medical attention rather than tamper with things that are better left alone. To simply quit now is to accept defeat, and you have never struck me as the type to do that. I have faith that you and your staff can find more beneficial ways to redeem the harm done here.

No, I'm not that kind of doctor.
