The story I am about to tell you is our story of finding a hidden deadspace complex using exploration. (Combat times were calculated with quick fit)
Plan A:
Myself and Captain BushDog decided to would try the complex in an Abaddon and a Zealot. He fitted a full Centus-X EM/Thermal Tank, dual large reps. His resistances were 93% EM 92% Thermal. Upon warping into the first stage of the complex we were immediately attacked by 30+ SanshaĘs battleships and a variety of smaller ships. I recall very clearly a few seconds after warping in BushDog saying over TS ōI am at 50% armąö then the flash of light as his ship exploded. I immediately hit warp in my Zealotą
Scratch: 1 Abaddon, 1 Zealot. Total Combat Time: 6 Seconds.
Plan B:
We both spent a few moments sitting next to our cans in pods talking about the best way to deal with lvl 1. After coming to the conclusion that it would probably kill the Archon we had, we decided to try and bring the Revalation through the acceleration gate.
Wasted Time: 15 Minutes Cynoing the dread in to realize it canĘt go through the acceleration gate.
Plan C-E:
We quickly came to the conclusion we needed help (or cannon fodder), so too corp chat we wentą Someone had the brilliant idea that we try the technique others use to complete 10/10 complexes. Use an assault frigate with remote armors reps helping it.
Scratch: 1 Retribution, 1 Vengance, 1 Jaguar
Plan F:
We realized that our best chance of having the assault frigate living long enough for the remote repping BSs to target it was to use a wolf (armor tank with uber EM/Therm resists). Bingo, we had it. As the wolf entered structure the first cycles of the remote reps were hitting it. Finally we had our solution.
After killing the NPCs on the first lvl, we started taking down the structures. Suddenly a little message appeared saying that we had triggered a small explosion by killing the structure that was keeping the gate locked. A micro doomsday device went offą
Scratch: 1 Wolf, 1 Ishtar
Plan G:
We got another wolf and went on to lvl 2. lvl 2 was going great, we had everything under control. The wolf was peacefully orbiting the battleships helping to remote rep it. Each new spawn of SanshaĘs battleships was pretty manageable.
Finally the last spawn was reaching its end so we decided to take out the SanshaĘs Barracks. It took a little bit of time to get through itĘs armor and when it finally hit structure we saw another little green message appear at the bottom of our screens (by now we were pretty sure that green message system surely spelled doom). Of course what spawns? 4x Giga Pulse Laser Sentries, with 30 battleships support.
Scratch: 1 Apoc, 1 Geddon Best Single Shot From Sentries: 3654.8 Damage GeddonĘs Life Once Targeted: 16 Seconds ApocĘs Life Once Targeted: 19 Seconds
At that point we resolved to go to sleep, there would be plenty of time tomorrow to self-destruct expensive ships. I will finish this story when we make another attempt to complete this complex tonight.

What was the name of this complex, and at what sec level did you find it? Low-sec or 0.0?
I found a "Minor Sansha Annex" in 0.3 last night, using exploration. Once I located the entry gate, the name of the complex appeared in the System map. Didn't have time to go in, though, as it was 2.am.

wow sounds like CCP outdid emselves on that one perhaps having 10-20 battleships like most other 10/10 plexes might work sounds like thta one is an alliance or large corp type operatoin the rewards had better be worth it but let us know how it goes

First stage is easy, second has about 20 BS plus support who all instantly aggro.

dont forget tho that even the same one CCP has introduced so caleld variance even the chance of escalation is random ( it means that u might have 25 BS on one the exact same one might have 30 next time then 20 the time after that)

We have faced plexes of similar difficulty and spawnstyle in fountain as well.
Imagine an ishtar on 95/95 resistances and 160mm plate loosing all shield and half armor within 40 seconds (bc's are a BAD idea, their sig is big and their speed low).
That can easily be resolved by timing 2 bs with reppers and drones to come in and help.
2nd level was quite omgwtf bbq with waves of multiple bs/support spawning every few seconds and targeting random people.
After much deliberation we found two simple ways: AB friggie speedtanking or whomever apart from the tank takes fire runs away like hell and calls primaries.
opt 1 was eeeeasy, opt 2 was funky.
Either way, you need to put some good teamwork and thought on it.

Honestly, our impressions so far are pretty positive. This is the first NPC mechanic that is actually hard.
Our only major concern right now is that when we finish the complex the final can will just be a sansha crystal tag or something to that effect.
In regards to some specific questions:
Name of the Complex? I will keep that to myself, it isn't as fun if you know everything that is going to happen when you find it. :)
Low-Sec or 0.0? It was found in 0.0
I appreciate all the suggestions about how to complete the complex. So far it has just been a matter of the designer of the complex, having a very good understanding about tricks people use to complete high lvl complexes.
The micro doomsday device to insta-pop any frigs/HACs brought in. The POS weapons to pop battleships before they could align to warp out. The huge number of scramming frigates and spider drone II's.
Plain and simple this complex is designed to kill player ships. In the future when doing complexes like this we will have an idea about the new "features" the devs are using, and be able to avoid them.

A few cloaking logistics ships to stay cloaked till aggro established as long as the deadspace area allows cloaking, have them decloak and keep up the other ships.
They should have cap boosters and lots of cap recharge, long remote repair and repair drones. Should be golden.

Edited by: Commander Nikolas on 21/12/2006 06:26:16 As promised I will finish the story now.
Plan G:
Tonight we had a good number of people online who wanted to help finish the complex. We decided to go with a super tank strategy. We used a megathron with at least 90% EM/Therm resists and about 10 battleships with rep drones, and large remote reps.
We geared up and approached the complex. Upon entering the first stage and approaching the gate we learned that it now requiered a Sansha's Diamond Tag to enter (a much more resonable request then the mini-doomsday device it had given us previously).
So we quickly sent someone back to get a Sansha's Diamond Tag. Finally, we had a plan that was going to work. The tanking megathron recieved the tag and we all activated the gate. Apparently the designer threw in a catch to this acceleration gate. It takes 1 Diamond Tag per person...
Scratch: 1 Megathron
Plan H:
By this point the fact that we had reached Plan H was disturbing. We got a Sansha's Diamond Tag for everyone in the gang. Finally, everyone was able to pass through the gate. With all our remote reps and rep drones the megathrons tank held. Slowly but surly we killed the NPCs, one by one... then finally the Sansha's Military Bunker. The crux of every green message of death that had been displayed to us... boom... the screen light up as it was destroyed.
We all rushed to the can... wondering what loot could be gaurded by a doomsday device, 4x Giga Pulse Sentries, several hundered battleships... We knew full well that lvl 4 missions in 1.0 space drop centus-X large armor reps, officer mods, and billions upon billions of ISK of loot for missions that don't even compair to this lvl of difficulty.
In the Can:
1x Cargo Scanner I 1x Small Nosferotu I 1x Miner I
We thought to ourselves, how can this be? Who uses 4x Giga Pulse Lasers to defend a miner I? Who uses a doomsday device to stop the theft of a Small Nos? How is it fair that we finally destroyed a complex that is impossible to complete without ship losses and we get nothing... What was the point?
Total Damage Tanked By Megathron: 3.75 Million Damage (Base) Rough Losses: 2bil ISK in ships and modules. Estimated Value of Loot: 10k ISK.
Summary:
We spent the rest of the night salvaging the loot, inspecting every object in the complex. Testing Codebreakers, Analyzers, & Salvagers on everything.
Nothing... Basically in the end we lost roughly 2bil isk in ships to some of the nastiest tricks we have ever seen (doomsday device and POS guns). And in the end... the value of the loot was worth less then the value of the tags we used to get in.
The CCP Risk vs Reward Formula:
Lvl 4 Mission in a 1.0 System = Centus-X Loot
No risk of being killed by other players No time spent trying to "find" the mission No real risk of losing ships No doomsday suprises No POS guns spawning on top of you
Exploration Complexes in 0.0 = Miner I
Random Spawn Sizes POS Weapons Doomsday Devices
I was hoping this post would end on a positive note. That there would have been "something" at the end of that complex. Basically, if you find a hidden complex in 0.0. Give the BM to one of your enemies. It isn't worth the trouble for a Miner I.

Wow. That is a truely heart-wrenching story. Props to you guys for beating it, but it makes me cry in my beer that you didnt get anything incredible.
Some Dev or someone has GOT to see this. This seriously should have dropped something worth and incredible amount of isk for the risk involved.

Edited by: Mnengli Noiliffe on 21/12/2006 06:49:14 Please elaborate which mission in 1.0 gives centus X loot. In my experience the most you get there is accomodation reps and occasionally some faction ammo and faction passive hardener worth 2 mil at most. never EVER there are officers in empire missions.
Though I agree CCP should not be that greedy about virtual stuff, looks like every valuable thing they place in a plex lose them 1 million dollars or something, this looks plain silly... Come on ccp, give these guys a few data interfaces for all the effort they put in it. Broken things should be fixed and those who suffered from them should be reimbursed.
In the other news, BOB got much less salvaging components from their titan wreck, now those drop a few thousands of components (tested on SiSi where occasionally, a gm self destructs his titan). perhaps worth reimbursement too though it's just a thought. (I mean salvaging components reimbursements, not titan :))
