Everybody is trying there best to win, yet one POS ganks the treasure at the end, and they were so wired to gank the corpse they dint contribute all that much towards the goal.. --- IDK, im not sure about how EVE goes about rewarding group play and/or policing it.. that last MMO improved a bit later on by featuring loot messages, and auto group loot dispersion
Actually, I was personally first to the can. I understand that is a concern in some corps/groups. However, I assure you that the people who were there have on many occassions before split loot/spawns even if they could have gotten away with stealing it. Several of the faction fitted ships we pirated were worth more then any end complex loot could be and the first person to the can didn't hold back.
Hopefully that is a sign that flying together for over a year, means something in eve :).

We did a 0.0 exploration complex too in a group last week, our tank BS was into structure within maybe 15secs, before the logistics could lock and rep it. We did manage to do it without any ship losses though, and we had a blast :D Kinda shyte that the best loot we got was a Tachyon Beam Laser I... this really does need some looking into, or does it?
But dreaded green text 4tw :D That was an omgwtf?-moment for us too :D Very fun :)

When I started to read the OP I knew what the final result would be before I even got to it. I was hoping this wasn't the case but sure enough it is. For everyone that doesn't know, exploration complexes (aka, the ones that require shooty shooty, acceleration gates, etc) don't drop faction loot. They generally don't drop named loot. In fact, they barely drop loot at all, and depending on what you're shooting, don't even salvage worth anything, unless you like metal scraps.
This is the catch 20 about these complexes. You must do them if you're interested in data interfaces, because there's no telling if this could finally be the one that leads to a escalating path, which leads to a data interface. What you end up with is a situation like Charlie Brown and the football. You know what's going to happen even before you start, but you still can't help yourself from trying anyway because, maybe, just maybe, this time will be different. Of course it's not.
I've been searching my rear off the last 2 weeks and in that time I've managed the following:
Found more than a few hidden asteroid belts, like the picture depicts. Contains bistot and arkanor, which is not available in tribute. Corp miners are happy and so are producers for being able to get megacyte easier which is usually a PITA. However, doesn't do much for me, and frequently the rocks are very small containing only 500 ore or so.
Many guristas sites, all which dropped nothing. Due to overcaution on my part the only thing we have lost is my oneiros. Mind you I had that thing for 2 years so I'm not thrilled....
Due to searching for gas harvesting stuff in cosmos constellations I located a "Minedrill excavation site beta" which has an interesting decription when you warp to it, but once again gives you almost nothing for the effort. The only notable thing is this is the only complex type site that actually gave ANYTHING for the effort, specifically a 5% missile hardwiring implant. Not sure if this is bugged or not since no idea what it supposed to do, since I don't work for CCP.
Last I have found several archeology sites, and these have been the only ones of any value. You recover a fair amount of salvage and sometimes multiple T2 rig BPC's from it - one site gave me three - which is nice. Plus, they're quite easy to do if you have the skills. Of interest though is a trigger that goes off sometimes when you try to analyze a can saying "you have triggered a booby trap" - however nothing actually happens. No idea what is or is not supposed to happen.
Oh, and then you have your hacking complexes. Or so I hear. In 2 weeks of searching no one in my corp, or in my alliance as far as I have heard (and I should have) has found a single one. I suspect this is a sign of another bug but of course, it's impossible to say again, because CCP has not said how these things are actually supposed to work.
In short, if you plan to explore, bring a huge amount of patience (6+ years in the USN of experience for me in having this tried daily FTW) and more than a little sense of sadism, because you'll need it. Oh, and a case of good beer sure doesn't hurt either.

They are one offs, this one had around 30 bistot roids (of all quality) and each roid had around 1500 units of bistot.

Edited by: SephiriotH on 22/12/2006 11:44:52 I confirm the fact that there is no damn worth loot in combat exploration plexes so far. I (with the help of few corpmates) did some ANgel Bases , Angel Fortresses and Angel Military Complexes (damn thermal cruise batteries hits you for a 3k dmg every 10 seconds with thermal resist 67% alone , without NPC guards). SO far nothing worth of value was found.
The one strange thing - in one of Angel Fortress plexes we triggered an EXPEDITION event . So from RA space we went to deep LV space , following the trail of legendary battleship "Angel of Death" (as by the signs of destruction it left - should be like Dark Antimatter BSH , which was the finall boss in 10/10). EXPEDITION lasts 50 minutes or you loose it, make your choice...
We managed to get there safely and wiped out any resistance...only to be sent to another expedition - to RYC . Veritas Immortalis outpost (that time was under heavy siege)... Damn it, we went there through the gate camps , locals 200+ etc...
Found another plex , cleaned it , only to receive a message - "You are at the dead end , you have no idea where to go now..." I barely hit my laptop display with my spit for 0.01 dmg when I saw that message... and loged off. it was 2 hours before the working day started.

That can easily be resolved by timing 2 bs with reppers and drones to come in and help.
2nd level was quite omgwtf bbq with waves of multiple bs/support spawning every few seconds and targeting random people.
After much deliberation we found two simple ways: AB friggie speedtanking or whomever apart from the tank takes fire runs away like hell and calls primaries.
opt 1 was eeeeasy, opt 2 was funky.
Either way, you need to put some good teamwork and thought on it.
yup - AB ranis = PWN ...

as long the NPCs don't use lots of missiles and there are no stasis towers an AB interceptor flying on a high-transversal flight path has no problems to "tank" such a complex ___________________

Im sorry but the rewards in exploration complexes are BS. Im sorry you got stung by this. Great story though.
What really gets me though is CCP doesnt even seem to care, no mod response, must be takign the WOW mentality
"its working as intended"
If only we got some inkling it was being looked into and fixed it would be nice. I dont mind the fact that new content is buggy but it seems as if stuff like this isnt even pursued for a long time.
Regardless being a full time explorer, I am keeping the motto that it is pre-nerfed and will continue with my new profession.

mine the ore and use the other stuff and you get another part of the complexe and there is another wtfbbq thingy where you get a datacore bpc or something so you make like 800bill isk on people who want to do invention

What's the problem in 3-4 ships losing to 30?
Take 10 people, have one ship setup tanked to hell and back, bring a logistics ship or two, and have your Battleships carry heavy armor/shield drones.
Sure BCs and cruisers are easier to hit than an AF or inty, but that doesn't matter when you have dozens of maintenance drones on them, along with a Basilisk/Guardian or two. Your first ship, had you known what you were facing, and had those resists on a CBC with plates, would've survived, it would take more damage, but when you have several ships shooting stuff for you, while using drones/arrays to boost your tank, you can tank unholy amounts of damage.

Nothing. However, when the 4 defeat the 30, and get nothing for their efforts, it tends to annoy them slightly.

The CCP Risk vs Reward Formula:
Lvl 4 Mission in a 1.0 System = Centus-X Loot
No risk of being killed by other players No time spent trying to "find" the mission No real risk of losing ships No doomsday suprises No POS guns spawning on top of you
Exploration Complexes in 0.0 = Miner I
Random Spawn Sizes POS Weapons Doomsday Devices
I feel your pain.It sounds like a really bad joke from the devs. Nothing new there.
But you have to stop this nonsense about how great the lvl4 in high and low sec is. I have done lvl 4's both in losec and highsec sinse august. And i havent ever looted a officer module. NO centus-x or whatever that is. Nothing. The best i have found is a Malkuth cruise launcher.
To say what you say makes it sound like were drowning in officer modules and that our agents are throwing isk at us. That is simply not true.
So just stop it please.

Yeah the exploration complexes are pure crap. Weve done a few down near insmother area and have probably wasted more ammo then the loot was worth. Complete waste of time and effort. I've honestly gotten better loot from 0.4 frigates. Atleast there you have the chance of a faction spawn.
We've even done a few of the l4 agents in space down here. Though we did get some stat booster things as a reward, the loot drops were far and few.
Good job CCP. ____________________________________________________

We took 6 people the first night and about 10 the second night. The problem with this complex is it was designed to defeat the normal stratigies people use. When you warp in the enitre complex (30+ BS's and webber frigs) aggro's you from all directions, thats why the first BS and the HAC went down. Of the 3 AF's that followed one was killed by webber frigs the other by modual lag, the third was killed by a booby traped structure dealing damge to all ships around it. The second stage was OMGWTF when 4 Giga pulse laser spawned along with 10 T2 spider drones and a ton more BS's, down go the Apoc and my Geddon. Then on the second night we sent on our tanking BS and SURPRISE, since when to acceleration gates require 1 key person, by by Mega.
It didn't matter how many people we brought, with these being so new nobody knows what to expect, and the designers engineered this plex to kill anbody using the standerd methods. The pre-nerfed stuff is crap, if thier going to pre-nerf the plex they should pre-nerf all the ships in it into structure or pre-GIMME MY ISK BACK!!!, sorry about that, I'm still a little bitter.
