I have been reading these forums since I have been playing EVE Online, and people have often said you cannot pirate in empire space, or you cannot pirate a ship that is larger than yours. I proved both of them wrong today. This character is just about 18 days old.
Recently I have been looking for targets to pirate. Mainly stealing from there cans and then destroying them when they retaliate, stealing both there can and there loot. To day I logged on with the intension to do the same. I spent 5 minutes searching for a viable candidate, belts, planets the stations. I searched long a hard in oursuleart for a victim. Then I found one. A 1 month in a thorax cruiser mining into a can.
I approached the guy, all the time pondering whether or not to provoke him. Taking a gasp of breath and a solemn gulp, I opened his can. Inside there was 73k of velspar, I took as much as my cargo hold could take (around 800 units). I waited a round for a responseà
[ 2006.12.20 19:39:29 ] VICTIM > what are you doing ? [ 2006.12.20 19:39:58 ] VICTIM > ******* idiot [ 2006.12.20 19:40:20 ] Lord Nemisis > stealing your ore [ 2006.12.20 19:40:37 ] Lord Nemisis > no need to swear, or ill steal more...
I had warped to the station and had warped back ready for another round of easy looting. After 6 runs, he obviously had enough and wanted to make me pay. On my 7th entry into the belt, I was greeted with a target lock and 4 drones, half killing me (25% armour). I ran away with my tail in between my legs. This ship had a civilian armour & and shield repair. I returned and again hit the same fate taking me down to 75% hull.
I decided to go in and apologise for what I had done, and then leave him to his own devices. I warped in at 70km. I opened a channel as soon as I entered the beltà
[ 2006.12.20 19:59:36 ] Lord Nemisis > lol ok, Ill leave you alone lol [ 2006.12.20 19:59:42 ] Lord Nemisis > :) [ 2006.12.20 20:00:24 ] VICTIM > pay me 200k isk [ 2006.12.20 20:00:38 ] Lord Nemisis > HA [ 2006.12.20 20:00:41 ] Lord Nemisis > your ransoming me... [ 2006.12.20 20:00:45 ] Lord Nemisis > :) [ 2006.12.20 20:01:20 ] Lord Nemisis > your not in the position to ransom.....:) try again in a few months :) [ 2006.12.20 20:01:23 ] VICTIM > hmmm [ 2006.12.20 20:01:38 ] VICTIM > fight? [ 2006.12.20 20:01:42 ] VICTIM > or pay [ 2006.12.20 20:02:11 ] Lord Nemisis > ok...:) [ 2006.12.20 20:02:16 ] Lord Nemisis > Ill fight [ 2006.12.20 20:02:27 ] VICTIM > ok [ 2006.12.20 20:02:40 ] Lord Nemisis > :) [ 2006.12.20 20:03:03 ] Lord Nemisis > tra la la :) [ 2006.12.20 20:03:17 ] Lord Nemisis > see ya lata...if you can catch me that is :)
A couple of things went through my head after than confo : - 1. HeÆs ransoming me at 70km; he canÆt get close to me in a thorax. 2. HeÆs ransoming me for 200k ISK, IM THE PIRATE! 3. OMFG HeÆs ransoming me at 70kmàwhat an idiot.
I decided to call his bluff and warp to a station to see if he would follow me, after 1 min and no thorax my guard dropped. As I was waiting at the station, something occurred to me. He had 73k Units of velspar so he must go back sometime for that. So I warped back to the belt at 60km, and there it was. ITERON MARK I JUICY LUMP OF ISK, slowing making its way to the can. I warped out and warped back to the bookmarked can, the iteron is now 10km awayà
TARGETED HIM BAM NO SHIELD BAM 25% ARMOUR (Taking off 39 per shot he didnÆt last long would have had him ifà)

He warped away. Straight away by instinct I warped to the first station in the system, AN THERE HE WAS AGAIN!!! So I locked him and got his hull down to 40% before he managed to warp out. I lost his trail after that so I returned to the can. After 5 minuets had passed and no cruiser, I returned to the station for repairs. I returned to the can (warped in at 30 KM), and he was there. I kept my distance from him at 30km. It was far enough so he couldnÆt hurt me, but close enough to make him want to get closer. I looked at the aggression counter, it was on 1 minute. I got a spark of an idea.
DISCLAIMER: I donÆt think you would class this as a scam, but veteran pirates donÆt hate me. IÆm still learning the ropes.
As the counter went down I started to think, ôI cant take himàö, ôWhat if some one else didàö When the countdown hit 10 I activated my Civilian Afterburner and approached him. With in seconds I was at 15km, he had started shooting me. I was in 25% Shield. I shot back, not even scratching him, but then. Before I could blink, he had no shields; then again he was in 25% Hull. BOOM
I looked up expecting to be dead, shocked to see Concord.
I think itÆs ironicà.

Haha! It's not a scam or a grief. You set him up. He should have paid closer attention to the timer, and then wasted you.

well this kind of thinking though is what makes for good pirates, and dead carebears, poor guy though, in his defense probably doesn't know the ins and outs of flagging. Which if I am not mistaken, does not get covered in the tutorial. ____________________________

lol I got such a rush from that, it was my first kill. I kinda liked it. The fact he was in a cruiser as well added to the feeling....he couldnt kill me even then :) So its not a bad way to kill him? I made 1.5 mill from his cargo and wreck...

You recognised you couldn't win by firepower alone. You figured out a way to beat him, adapted to the situation you were in and also made a profit. Definitely not a bad way to kill him. Not a bad way at all.
Be warned though, now that you've tasted your first combat rush, you'll spend the rest of your eve life trying to recreate that first moment. Nothing else will ever come close.

That sort of thing used to happen in L2. They eventually patched it out cos it was too easy to exploit (they made it give a clear warning when aggro timer was expiring).
Eve doesn't have DoTs afaik, so I guess thats why they dont bother.
Still, is stealing ore really pirating? Back when I was first starting out I recall that no self respecting pirate would let an ore thief refer to himself as a pirate. Well, Thorax guy probably feels horrible and hates CCP, but unlike most of us he at least got to shoot at his thief. Even to this day there is just no defense against an ore thief, short of alts and scrammers. Course, that's the price for jet can mining.
I needed more isk, so I took a risk. I mined some ore then fled once more. I'll return to the core to escape the war! |

That is true, u will spend countless hours in low sec looking for kills, and hopefully rack up quite a few. Even though u might have some fights that are quite an experiance, nothing will come close to the first one.

Stealing ore/can flagging/other empire noobness is *NOT* PIRACY. Stop touting it as something special and get -10 and go into lowsec, noob.

Edited by: Lord Nemisis on 21/12/2006 12:21:15 Now this is the part I hate, when a charcter who thinks he is gods gift to the game comes along and ruins a good thing.
Im not calling my self a pirate, it was the first time I got someone/I destroyed some one. The act is called piracy, I by no means consider this chracter to be a pirate. 1 he doesnt have any of the skills requiered, but doeshave experience. 2 Its not in my chracter as a gamer to be a griefer, and cuase others to feel bad.
It was the first time I went out of my way to upset some one. I was just sharing the experience with people. if you dont like it, dont read or post, its that simple. Noone whats to hear your insults...

Good to see a guy using his brain to take sombody out! Good read. It is possible to take down larger ship classes, if they are new and not experienced. Have a friend who took down 3 theiving bs (1 at the time) in deimos yesterday
