I'm interested in learning to survive in null-sec and WH space, running relic and data sites.
I plan on taking all skills in the Scanning group to V, with the exception of: Astrometric Pinpointing Astrometric Rangefinding Astrometric Acquisition Survey
These will only go to 4.
Other than the fact I can't use the associated T2 modules of these skills, is there anything I won't be able to scan down or run? With archaeology, hacking, and astrometrics all at V, plus a bonused ship and good exploration mods, should I be able to hunt down everything available in the game I'm interested in?
Thanks!

Yeah, with a bonused ship that should more than cover you in PvE (provided you're fully trained on the ship itself if it gives a per level bonus). You might feel occasional need (or at least want) for some scanning modules, but everything should be fine. |

Actually for exploration yon don't need Survey skill higher than 3 as at 3 it unlocks Archaeology and further training results only in faster cycles of ship, cargo and survey scanners, which are not much useful for exploration, even if you cargoscan exploration containers, training it above 3 seems to be just a waste of time. Also, I'd suggest training Covert Ops to 5 if you plan to explore in this hulls as they receive scanning bonus per skill level and outperform T1 frigates and Astero/Stratios with their fixed bonuses. Training Cybernetics preferably to 5 is a good idea as the best Scanning Implants require this skill to be maxed out. Scanning rigs do not inflict penalties, so you don't need training rigging skills at all.
What you probably would have hard times with: capsules and frigates with small signatures (and ships with tons of ECM modules) are extremely hard to locate by combat probes without Virtue set and other scanning implants in Wolf-Rayet wormholes, but this is mainly PVP issue, not an exploration one. |

Thanks!
There is an excellent series of blog entries explaining how all this stuff works:
