Trying to install EVE Online client and i get the error message:
"Could not access network location C:/EVE/SharedCache."
I have googled this in every way that i can think of and havent come up with anything that even remotely comes close to telling me why the client wont install.
I have already filled out a support ticket but i figured I'd ask in the forum while i wait the week and a half for CCP to get back to me...
Running Windows 8 if that matters.
Does anybody know what exactly is causing this error message and how to fix it?

Are you trying to install on a computer / laptop, or on a tablet?
Do you know how to get to the Desktop view and/or open Windows Explorer to look at the files on your hard disk?
Try to use the Windows Explorer to see if you can get to C:\EVE\Shared Cache. It should be a folder on your hard disk. |

try running the installer as admin? That usually fixes most of those kinda problems.
also are you using the standard launcher or the beta launcher?

Ok i figured out a work-around!
I downloaded just the repair tool into an empty folder on the C:/ drive and then ran the repair.exe file and it "replaced all of the missing files in the folder" essentially downloading/installing the client.
So now i have the old launcher back and all of the corresponding files.
Now i just have to figure out why eve.exe crashes everytime i try to run it or everytime i click "PLAY".
Repair tool can be downloaded here:

You're probably already admin.
The error seems to be saying that the game or launcher cannot see the SharedCache folder. Right-click the SharedCache folder, choose Properties, go to the Security tab, and check that you have full control access, and it's not set to Read Only or somesuch.
If you do have full access, the next thing I'd suspect is a hard disk failure. Right-click the C: drive, choose Properties, Tools, Error-check (scandisk).
Past that, I don't know. |

Even if you're logged in as admin you still have the "run as admin" option, the fact that the option isn't there suggest a lower lvl user which might prohibit full access to those folders. All depends on how restricted that user is. You circumvented it but that doesn't mean it won't show up (or cause trouble) anymore. |

The beta launcher is probably it. Some people know how to work it, but I just can't be bothered to make it work properly.

To fix this: win+r, type "regedit", then delete folder "CCP" in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/ |

This will fix your issue.
Usual reason why this happens is if you use the Beta version of the New Launcher without an existing EVE installation.

It's rare that a software problem means you have to replace a disk drive. In fact, I've never heard of such a thing.

Most of laptop have so many crappy software and 3 party "protection" that nothing works like it needs to do. A clean windows yes CLEAN not the backup people will fixs everything. But sins thats to many work people try to avoided there own software.
Ok the solution then. First use adwcleaner to remove nasty stuff its free easy to use and not hard for beginners (there is no harm to run it sometimes) Also run everything in admin mode. Do not install stuff in local maps like (username/blahblah) Also not in program files. Just make a clean map (c:\eve) And 99% of patch error installation will be fixs.
Nothing helps download tuneup and clean your system. After that run a software update on windows adobe java and so on. This can also work against bugs. |

Ran into a similar problem but uninstalling EVE.
Going into the Registry I noticed that the path looked odd:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CCP\EVEONLINE
Name: CACHEFOLDER Typoe: REG_SZ Data: E:/EVE/Shared Cache
Changed the Data to be:
Data: E:\EVE\Shared Cache
and uninstalled successfully without the error.
Hope this helps others out.

This had me scratching my head for a while. Deleting the regedit entry also fixed it for me. Thank you! |
