The squids hate me, they really do. But I want to change that. How do I get my standing above -5 with Caldari and Amarr? |

Best way I know. https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Faction_Standing_Repair_Plan
As always thanks to DMC and the rest for putting this together.
Or you can fleet up with someone who has good standings while they run missions etc. in high sec you would have to decide to take your chances because of your criminal ways and fly with them. Or sit is stations somewhere and watch while they do the work.
There are player corps that specialize in helping to gain or repair standings, I do not have any names to list since I have never needed there services. |

If you haven't trained it already, getting the skill Diplomacy to level III or IV is a huge help. It gives a modifier that brings your negative standings up and softens the blow of being negative quite a bit.
Otherwise, follow the Repair Plan that Donnachadh mention.

Thank you very much for the honorable mention, took about 3 months of research as well as engaging in the content in order to verify and document all of the various Event Agents in-game that actually give Faction standing increase.

Very impressive indeed! I read that since my modified status with Caldari and Amarr (with diplo 4) is -6.80 I will need to join a player corp that resides in space that is not caldari or amarr but that has positive standings with them. This is in order for me to run missions with a level 1 agent because of my derived standings?
Did I read this right? |

Did I read this right? You don't need to join a player corp for that. That won't get you anything.
You can always run level 1 missions, even if the corp hates you. You just have to run a lot of level 1 missions for them.
FWIW, Amarr and Caldari corps with agents in Gallente and Minmatar space.
Example: * Imperial Armaments (Amarr) * Expert Distribution (Caldari) * Kaalakiota (Caldari)
There are others, but these immediately came to mind. |

Thank you so much for this! I take it there is a LOT of l1 missions to do to get 1.80 standings? I need that just to get over the -5.00 hump so I can be ok in Caldari/Amarr space. |

The problem is that level 1 missions are boring, and level 1 storyline missions don't grant much of a standing gain.
When you gain N% from a mission, that means you gain:
New Standing = Current Standing + (10 - Current Standing) * N% * (1 + Social Skill Level * 5%)
Skills like Diplomacy (if < 0) and Connections (if > 0) are applied after this.
I seem to recall it taking a number like 40 level 1 storyline missions, but I can't back that up. |

I saw a few people fix their standings in FW. not sure exactly what the mechanics are there though. Although I think you have to join a corp currently in FW for the faction you want to gain standings with. From the eve-uni wiki looks like you plex/mission and as your standings to the FW corp go up you get promoted and get a faction standing gain http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Factional_Warfare_Standings
Also go look at the empire standings to see who is allied with caldari. Ammatar mandate has good derived standings to Amarr/caldari so gains there will help out. and you might not have burned out your ammatar standings as badly as your amarr/caldari standings.
Mordus legion is another good option, but they are out in null.

So just for clarity, I can join a corp that is enrolled in Caldari FW and kill Gallente NPCs in plexes and players in Galmil and my standing will go up with Caldari?

Essentially correct, however the problem with Fac War for standings is while you would improve your Caldari standings you would destroy your Gallente standings in the process so there is a trade off.

The best thing for you to do is train up Diplomacy level 5 asap followed by Social skill and Connections skill.
Social skill will increase the amount of standing gained for completing missions. Connections skill will increase your current positive standing. Diplomacy skill will decrease your current negative standing.
Diplomacy level 5 will raise a -10 Faction standing up to -6 Faction standing. With Level 5 Social trained up, you should only have to complete one set of 16 regular level 1 missions to get one Storyline offer which after completion should raise the Faction up above -5 standing.
Whichever one of the two Factions (Amarr and Caldari) has the lower negative standing, that's the one you do missions with. For example : Lets say your standing is -6.80 Amarr and -6.00 Caldari.
You would then work Caldari level 1 Agents located in 'Friendly' space such as Minmatar or Gallente regions. Then after getting the Faction above -5.00 standing, you can then freely travel into their space (without being attacked by their Faction NPC's) and start working their Event Agents listed in 'The Plan'.
Hopefully you understand now. Good luck and much success to you.

Indeed I do now. Thank you for taking the time to make it so clear to my specific case.

There are also the pirate companies with the high derived standing boost like Ammatar for Amarr and Mordu's Legion Command for Caldari.
I'm pretty sure that they don't have navies to shoot at you. |
