We are doomed?
I think it was a warning. Experimental AI capable of feeling sadness or happiness, but without any reasons to be happy in their state, that would be like being damned by your creators. Who knows what that AI would do to the people around it.

Hmm, but it goes even deeper, I think.
Do people have a right to develop an artificial person level of intelligence? Do we need it? The reason we could do something, doesnt mean we should. If it would mean the AI would be suffering, then who would you blame for its suffering. Creators or the artificial person, that its incomplete? How would you feel if your child would be feeling a constant pain, and it would be you, who dropped it on its head in childhood? I see it very much the same like producing that abomination. Would you then switch it off? Like.... kill it, pressing a button?

And what if the AI would not feel like a person, and be a complete psychopath, that would be even scarier! It could analyse and become aware that you could believe its not a psychopath, fake its feelings, and then, BAM!, it would take over the world and make everyone its slaves and become an ultimate DALEK.

I think we are not overthinking it enough, because there are things people are not capable of, and AI is. At this point!
Combining it with human innate flawed characteristic could make things a lot more complicated.

Whatever AI is made, it will be built to match a specific defnition of "Intelligence". And provided there's no consensus on a scientific defintion of Intelligence, probably we're bound to building specialyzed partial imitations of intelligence, increasinlgy inaccurate and inductor of the uncanny valley as they step into the non-rational part of humanity. At one point, non-intelelcutla AIs woudl become somehtign which humans could get used to, but not an actual imitation of mankind.
Not to mention the efforts to manipulate AI in favor of specific agendas. Picture "scientificlaly accurate" racist AIs, political bigot AIs, religious zealot AIs...

Timezone o/
Considering past decades, I am slightly worried. But considering the future decades, I am really worried.
AI can now defeat people in poker and other games where humans had advantage, where AI has not the full information, where lie is all you got. If in future you could not lie to a computer, because it would see thru you, then what would you have? Even now humans dont have so many advantages they had. Humans are starting to become obsolete in so many areas of life, jobs are lost to AI all over the world! \o/
What if some guy would make AI that would make strategic decisions for his country? And he would use it for war, and AI will prove invincible? Matrix will be our only salvation, we will have to surrender and cooperate to survive, like inferior species, like a cat is for us, we will become pets for silicon entity.
