I just want to make sure everyone is aware of all the beautiful work the web team has been cranking out.
They have been putting many of them out without much fanfair, so I figure I would collect them together.

Even from people I never got to actually play, they always remarked upon how visually stunning the game is and the artwork.
GÖÑ the art team. Even though all Caldari ships are hideous to me (except the scorp mebe) some people seem to like them.

We can't have both? Web devs are not necessarily game devs or content devs.

It's clear there's a subset of the gaming population that really has no clue how complex projects like a triple A games are produced. They don't really understand the concept of departments and separation of jobs. They honestly believe the people in the art department are fully capable programmers and should be programming instead of doing artsy things... |

No, not at all.
Resources expended on pretty artwork and design mean fewer resources expended on things like (oh what a lovely idea!) QA and GM staffing. Hell, even improving something as basic as the customer support experience would be wonderful.

Hell, even improving something as basic as the customer support experience would be wonderful. My thinking is that those resources expended on pretty artwork and design is one of the most cost effective ways to make the game attractive to someone checking it out for the first time.
And if the game looks attractive, people my take a shot at signing up for a trial.
And if they play the trial, they may like the game and sub.
And if they sub, they may stick around long enough to become a bitter forum regular.
See now why it's so important to allocate resources for stuff other than things like QA and GM staffing? Attracting a new stream of potential subscribers is the lifeblood of an MMO.

Everyone knows that all the resources are being wasted on pretty things and there's none left over for anything else!!!!! Cause you know CCP hires art department people for only one project and then they are terminated. It's not like the art department is always there regardless or anything!!!!!
/stupid
Seriously though the art department isn't something that magically disappears as a financial/resource cost when not being used. Companies are more than capable of multitasking.. |

Sounds like Old CCP's "new features instead of iteration" concept they used for years which ultimately resulted in Incarnage, yeah that didn't work too well. CCP's BEST advertising has always been word of mouth because us players had something to boast about and we did stuff that was newsworthy.
If someone wants cool videos with zero gameplay I would suggest Star Citizen, I heard they're looking for more idiots to buy their $1000 space pixels. |
