Hello space friends,
I have just started running missions in NPC Null for something new (never had a mission running phase) and because I've heard it's pretty lucrative. As of last night I hit the standings required for L4s and I was hoping to get some advice on ships/fittings. I used a Tengu for the 3s which went really fast.
I have perfect missile support skills and can use all T2 missiles except torpedoes, I have excellent shield skills, decent drone skills (all to 4), Caldari BS 5 (can fly a Golem), and Gallente BS 4. I've heard Pirate BS are better than Marauders for L4s and I think the Rattlesnake would be a perfect fit for me skill-wise. I can also use my Tengu with Offensive, Defensive, and Prop subs to 5, others to 5.
Could you guys help me with some excellent Rattlesnake and Tengu fits and advice about what missions to use each for to get the most ISK/LP?
Thank you kindly, Dante |

For your skill set, or what you've shared of it, the cruise or rapid heavy missile rattlesnake with sentries or heavies would be the best ship for you currently. It is not the most lucrative battleship however to run lv4 missions in but there are worse options
That said your best bet would be to focus on filling in the skills missing for burners (frigate and cruiser ships and weapon systems). Also fit your RS with 3 T2 Hyperspasial velocity rigs and get an ascendancy set (mid is fine, high if you can afford it). If your aim is lots of isk from missions check the link in my sig and just replace the machariel with your rattlesnake and go from there.

Running missions in NPC 0.0 is a very different experience than running them in high sec. The critical things to be concerned with are:
1. Keeping an eye out for combat probes. 2. Finding a way to get from the station where you accept the mission(s) to the mission sites without getting caught in a trap.
The first is relatively easy. Just use D-Scan.
The second is also relatively easy. You can:
1. Scout the gates with an alt. 2. Accept the missions in a cloaky-nullified Tengu, then use a mobile depot to refit before you actually run the mission. 3. Accept the missions in an interceptor, and keep a mission running ship in a POS in each adjacent system.
I have seen all of the above work fairly well.
When I last ran missions in NPC 0.0 (on an alt), I focused solely on running Burner missions. I had about eight different agents I could move around and get missions from. This worked well for me until my nicely-fit Hawk got caught in a gate camp on my way back from running a mission. Not every gate camp will have four Interceptors and two Interdictors, but needless to say that was the end of my mission running career.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. So, why do I post here?
I'm stubborn.

The Tengu definitely seems more active than say a sniping battleship, which would be a positive.
Would you happen to have any good Cruise/RHML Rattlesnake fits that you've seen for missions? I can find plenty of info on Machs, but not so much on Rattlesnakes.
As far as smaller ship skills go, I have Caldari and Gallente cruiser/frig all to 5. No gunnery skills, but T2 rockets and light missiles (and T2 light/medium drones). Are any of those good for Burners?
I'm not too worried about enemies while I do missions, but I do appreciate the advice as always!

I wouldn't use a Rattlesnake for 0.0 mission running, because it is very slow and very easy target to kill. Almost all lvl4 missions will be in 1-2 jumps away from station. Because of this I use Tengu. I only run storyline missions and the ones I can blitz very easily and quickly.
Here is my Tengu fit :
[Tengu, hams ]
Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II
Corelum C-Type 10MN Afterburner Pithum C-Type Medium Shield Booster Pith X-Type EM Ward Field Adaptive Invulnerability Field II Missile Guidance Computer II, Missile Range Script Imperial Navy Cap Recharger

Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst II Medium Warhead Flare Catalyst II
Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir Tengu Defensive - Amplification Node Tengu Electronics - CPU Efficiency Gate
This is the fit against Mercs, Drones (change missiles to EM). Against EOM I use 3 Missile Guidance Computer II with range scripts (50 k with navy scourge and 750 DPS and perfect skill or 42k range with rage and 850+ dps)
Never ever use expensive implants, because you will get killed one day when you will be running burner missions in a frigate.
For travel always use travel fit and a mobile depot. Drop mobile depots in every mission running system and refit there before and after the mission. Never ever refit at this mobile depot, if there are hostiles in the system. In this case drop a mobile depot from your cargo hold in new safe spot and watch out for combats.
Here is the travel fit

Tengu Defensive - Amplification Node Tengu Electronics - CPU Efficiency Gate Tengu Offensive - Covert Reconfiguration Tengu Propulsion - Interdiction Nullifier Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
You can change Augmented Capacitor Reservoir to Capacitor regeneration matrix and get 4 low slots. Warp core stabs saved me once, when I decloacked very close to enemy ceptor. I guess it was a bad luck, but they saved me. |

Thank you kindly guys! I've been using the Tengu and it's been going pretty well so far. Almost died in the Blockade when I got too close to a webbing frig, but I learned my lesson. Doesn't seem like the fastest but they're going by faster than I thought, and it's pretty fun.
That being said, are there any missile/drone frigates that can do Burners in inexpensive fits? Or do I have to train gunnery for them? I keep on getting offered them and it pains me to decline. |

I was doing team burners solo in Worm with 2 racial jammers. It takes long time, drones often get killed. For agent burners it is possible to do them solo in a worm, but again, drones often get killed.
Best way to do team burners is to have 1 Worm with max DPS and 1 griffin with 4 racial jammers. It is very easy to do like this and you can use very cheap fit.
For anomic agents I use worm + AF (harpy against angel/sepr, wolf against blood/sansha) and daredevil / worm against gurista burner. Also I used to do those anomic agents in 2 worms (skipped gurista burner and blood burner). |

Would you mind sharing the Worm fits that you use? I'd have to train some jamming skills, but otherwise it's definitely the frigate I'd have the best skills for. |

This is the fit against team burners. Best done with a Griffin. Also I did them solo with this worm, but it takes long time. I had to jam 1 logi, kill another logi, then kill another logi, and after the logi I could kill a burner. With Griffin set jams to logis, set worms jams to burner. Kill the burner.

There's a Polarized Garmur fit that Anize Oramara posted in their Blitzing Guide that is quite honestly the only way to run the Team Burners. @300 DPS overheated It literally melts anything.
I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.
