Kindly disembark from the game with your whiny and self-entitled 2015 newbie mentality - this is clearly not the game for you, even with the wealth of advantages you have over a new player starting in, oh, I don't know, 2008.

A certain other big-name MMO is incredibly stale and bleeding subs at the moment. Many of these posts sound like the gripes of the long-time players of that game, I think.

Hello
Ty for the positive replies in the thread, i have been reading the links and a corp member saw my post and sent me some ISK so im able to get my next ship.
It would seem there is a lot of "out of eve links" to what EvE provides in terms of "help guides".
To the trolls.

There's nothing wrong with that. Just like the real world there are players who like to follow and people who like to lead. It's just that for a new player it's sometimes unclear where they should look for good leaders.

Just FYI, a person who disagrees with you is not necessarily a troll. If the ISDs determine that trolling is going on in a thread (actual trolling) then they will come down pretty hard.
The culture of this game is very rough on the outside but very helpful on the inside. People have little patience for whining or ranting about the game from people who have been around a week, but a new player who asks polite questions and who seems engaged and curious will be showered with links and tips and even isk from strangers.
In any case, I'm glad you're getting help. I hope you stick around a while.

Oh wait, I told them. They just didn't listen. I agree. The more you give the more people expect. Even if you gave people an instant level up to 50mil SP I am sure we would get people who will find another reason to complain.
I think the starting SP and skills are pretty good at the moment, they did a good job in giving new players a good start. I still think that CCP should implement started professions though to give new players a bit of direction at the beginning. There is so much to do in eve it is often overwhelming for a new players as in the case of the OP.

So iv'e been playing for a little over a week now. So far, I'm not impressed and am seriously considering not extending my trial. My reasons are below.
1. Starting skills are rubbish, I can still fly very little. 2. I fitted a probe with modules, went exploring, I make VERY little money in any data/relic site. 3. I literally after doing the tutorial still have virtually no idea what I'm doing. 4. Ship/modules cost far to much money. What I make from exploring/level 1,2 missions does not cover getting skills and getting new ships to do things when you die. 5. The NPC corp for me was horrible, asking questions got horrible answers or simply, i was insulted non stop.
There is literally no reason for me to keep playing, I do not make hardly any ISK for my skill level and i cannot afford to upgrade items etc.
CCP, you need to fix your game.

CCP are bringing in a new system whereby you give them lots of real life cash, and they give you the skills to do whatever.

Did you perhaps go find the Career agents? Those guys generally give you what you need to get going, including spare ships to use, and a few million ISK.
From the sounds of things, it looks like you did not do that.
We all started off in a similar boat, but we all still persevered and worked until we reached a higher level of gameplay in EVE. The first step is knowing what career path you want to make for yourself, place the time and effort into missions so you can eventually fly better paying missions, and by those points you usually have the ships types necessary to fly those missions successfully.

CCP, you need to fix your game. 1. Too bad, the whole point of Eve is overcoming obstacles 2. Get out of highsec. Go to nullsec or wormhole space. 3. This is a sandbox. Make your own goals. Mine is leet pvp. 4. Most ships/modules are relatively cheap. With only 3 billion and low ish income I can reasonably lose T2 module fit cruisers and a few battlecruisers when I feel like it. 5. I'm going to teach you a thing, now, ESA....
Your definition of Troll: "People who give me constructive criticism and helpful advice, and are only trying to ACTUALLY help, which also do not agree with and co-sign my infantile rant."
Your definition of "positive commenters": "People who enable my shite attitude, and add their own whiny voices to my rant."
Actual definition of troll: "People who post useless, misleading, silly, or otherwise side-tracking posts which are very thinly disguised as helpful, with the intent of hijacking the conversation for the sole purpose of amusing self and others. If almost everyone laughed (including, most of the time, the intended target), it probably was a troll. If almost nobody laughed... it probably wasn't. Trolls are, first and foremost, funny."
Actual definition of "positive commenters": "People who stay on-topic in most situations, and offer helpful advice and constructive criticism, as needed. Solutions-based commentary. May not always agree with you. May sometimes be on the completely opposite side of the discussion as you. But, that doesn't change the fact that they're commenting positively."

My first post here, I was expecting to keep it for something more...... worthwhile but here we are....
I put off trying eve for years for 2 reasons... 1. fear of addiction and 2. the playerbase being up there own asses..
ive being playing for just over 2 weeks now and while reason one was valid i was blown away by the playerbase!.. everything I had read about eve players is total BS!.... the guys in the help channel are second to none! who spend hours and hours answering newb questions and helping them on there way, I would not be here now if it wasn't for those guys... I still frequent the help channel now even tho im past most of the basic stuff because there such good guys and its nice to give back a little and help anyone I can... the NPC corp is never going to be the best is it?? I mean if your complaining about that then im not sure what to say as explaining it will probably go over your head...
I completed the agent missions, got a very basic idea of the game and wasn't sure what to do next, I thought about moving onto SOE and the epic arc but didn't really fancy being bogged down with missions, so I decided just go out and learn and have some fun, I loved scanning down sigs so I decided I wanted to try a bit of exploring (which was a shock as I come to eve to trade) so I set up and went out to play...
yea highsec isn't the best paying but for no0b its a decent living, going back to n0ob chat for a second, it never ceases to amaze me the number of n0obs begging for cash... ISK isn't a problem for new players, its the skill cap that's the issue for new players not cash.. so highsec is fine at the start imho...
the price of modules and ships is too high??? what are you buying?? jeez T1 stuff is dirt cheap.. I don't understand this at all, this makes me feel the OP is trolling because its clear that this is BS...
the only wrong info I have been given on a regular basis is to "keep out of low sec/null sec and WH space" yea ok the guys are just trying to keep us safe and not being ganked every 5 mins but although I have only being playing just over 2 weeks my advise is GO!!!.. make your mistakes early and learn while your in cheap ships with cheap modules..
spend a little time with google and do your homework on WH's/ WH space and USE IT!.... for the love of all that's holy don't go into null/lowsec via gates in highsec.. its pretty much insta death... learn to use WH's they should not be feared and are actually the safest way to travel if you have done your homework and have a couple of brain cells to rub together, ive earnt a pretty packet by exploring, more than I can spend atm anyway... ive also lost big to.... but this is where the people of eve have once again blown me away..
first time I got done in nullsec (damn bubbles :D) the corp who got me sent a msg saying sorry for the kill as I was new and gave me a lump of ISK!!!!.. they had no need to do that and im not saying this is a regular thing by any stretch of the imagination but it helps show the strength of the PB in this game...
the other one was the other night, I had over 60 mill onboard and made a very silly mistake, basically I was getting greedy...:D and stupid... i was on my last few jumps back to home base de'cloaked to drop my probes with hostiles in the area..... i know i know..... either way.. the guy convo'ed me and gave me a few pointers, although i knew my mistake it was very good of the guy to offer advise to a new player... even the pro's will go out of their way to help new players.. ive only ever had one bad experience with a player and that was in newb chat with a fist day player who thought he was god, he wont be here long i feel...
i actually brought an astero, the need got too great lol.... but ive since layed that up in dock until get my skills up a bit.... as my imicus earns me great isk does everything i need atm AND its cheap to replace when i pull a stupid stunt like the other night...
i think that's its refreshing that newb ships or should i say T1 gear still has a place in eve.. and its not all about getting the biggest best ship/modules... (infact i don't believe there is a BEST ship in eve)...
if your out exploring i don't see where your getting all hot and bothered, its great ISK and awesome way to get into eve.. its the guys who go into mining that i feel sorry for...... dear god lol
my knowledge is always the limiting factor i find, not skills or ISK.. at this stage in my career anyway...
so to sum up... i have no idea what your talking about in regards to T1 prices... also the PB has been MORE than helpful towards me and other new players... your looking in the worst place possible... a NPC corp filled with n0obs... i dunno what you expect to find tbh, i don't think ive even spoken to anyone in the NPC corp....
finally i just want to give a shout out to the guys who donate so much time helping noobs which involves answering the same questions over and over and over, but is vital to getting players over their first couple of days... so props to you all and thank you...
sorry if went off topic slightly but felt i need to tell my story while being new... because nothing in the OP ive found to be true at all....

Trial accounts can now post on the forums outside New Citizen's Q&A?
Anyway...
The incentive is something the player him/herself must come up with. Whether you are new or old doesn't really matter.
1. Yep. One skill level at a time and enjoy the ride. Try to be creative and enjoy what you can do / fly with your current skills.
2. "Don't fly what you can't afford to lose" is one of the most basic and important rules in EVE. I'd guess whatever you're trying to buy is something you are not supposed to.
3. That isn't very uncommon for new players and actually quite expected. Since EVE is sandbox game and most of if not all the actual fun stuff is created buy the players, no tutorial can teach you what EVE is really about. Don't hesitate to join (and leave) player corps. Additionally, while I said be creative in #1, the fact of the matter is 99% of the players (probably including you) simply aren't, which is something pretty critical in a sandbox game. That's why most people join corps/interest groups founded and run by people who are.
4. Have you done the Sisters of EVE epic arc mission? The whole series should yield about 20M ISK if I remember correctly. If you, as a week-old player, think that's not enough then you really should read #2 again.
5. Well that's too bad. I suggest you try the official newbie help channel next time.
...and after all the above I realize OP is already in a player corp. Congrats and fly safe. I hope you find something you can get interested in there. |

The OP needs to get out of that 13 man corp and join a real one. Do NOT start your own corp. Join one with active players who do something, preferably in null or W-space. Pick a specialty and run with it. Don't get caught up in all the things you can't do because of skill points. Stick with the game and you will enjoy it. So, one thing I can point out from your comments is: you should not be dying. This is not like other MMO's where you just go find stuff and keep trying to kill it before it kills you, and if it gets you first, "oh well." One of the things that makes Eve so different from other games is that dying carries a large consequence. Smaller things like ship components are meant to take many hours of game play to afford to buy. The next level of ships that a player wants to use are suppose to take days, even weeks and months later in their game lives, to obtain. Because of this, you really set yourself back every time you lose a ship. One does not become space rich within the fist months of playing Eve unless they use their wallet to attain isk through PLEX.
That all being said, if it looks like you may lose your ship, get out of that area of space before you do. You will be surprised how much this will help you gain isk. |

I bought a full year subscription within the first hour of my first login.
That was over 6 years ago, when the New Player Experience (NPE) consisted of starting in space in an ugly rookie ship, near an asteroid with an orbiting red "+". Nothing more. Not even a mission to shoot the "+", or even how to move my ship.
Then we had to train learning skills FIRST for months, because back then +5 was the lowest attribute, not +17.
So I can't help but wonder about the OP and expectations. |

1: You're not supposed to be able to jump into a Battleship or a Titan on Day One. In fact, as those links may show, bypassing the 'learning cliff' can lead to some spectacular fail that will amuse all and sundry.
FYI: I'm approaching 25m SP and thanks to my somewhat obsessive nature, I very rarely fly anything bigger than a frigate. Most of my SP is in Engineering, Navigation, Shields, Armour and Electronic Systems. I'll start training ship skills again in about a month when I've knocked over a few more 'core skills' to V.
2: HiSec is NOT the place to make ISK. In exchange for the baby-blanket style protection of CONCORD, you get nerfed drops and nerfed opportunities to make ISK.
3: Very few people in this game have any idea what they're doing. I am grateful everytime I log in that I'm not one of them.
4: When I was a wide eyed newbro, all of fourteen months ago, I too found spending ISK3m on a ship to be difficult. These days I buy Dramiels and Daredevils in packs of five thanks to some nice Planetary Interaction chains I have running out in 0.0 space.
5: Get Out Of NPC Corps ASAP! KarmaFleet and Pandemic Hoard both cater specifically for new players and both can help get you started.

The reality is people like the OP will always be sheep in need of a shepherd.
Good analogy.

Don't let interactions like this become only a memory.
