Specifically, I'm looking for a corp and would like to advertise that and tell people a bit about myself and what I'm looking for. |

If you're on a trial account you're restricted to posting in this part of the forums, if you're subbed then you should be able to post pretty much anywhere. In game you can join the recruitment channel at any time.

Thank you, I was planning on upgrading my account anyways so I'll go ahead and do just that. The channels are difficult to post enough about yourself to find a fitting corp, preferably in the first attempt. |

Your first corporation will likely be a **** show, there's plenty of crap corps out there so don't feel committed or beholden to them unless it directly facilities you learning and/or having fun.

Yeah, I've pieced that together over a few MMOs. That's why I just wrote a book in recruitment, to hopefully attract a serious corp. I was almost laughing in the new player channels when corps were just handing out invites, not even asking who the person they were inviting was like or their name. |

Unfortunately there are a lot of corps that target new players simply to exploit them. They don't need to know anything about you as you are just meat for the grinder. If a corp doesn't give you a bit of a grilling before offering you a place, be wary.

granted i have been playing long enough to have heaps of assets so its definitely in my interest that they do thorough vetting but its often a red flag if they don't ask for one

If you are looking for a corp, the very first thing you should decide is this:
"Do I want to be a loyal member of the corp, or a disloyal one?"
There's a lot of fun to be had in joining a corporation with the intention of stealing everything not nailed down. If you want advice on doing this, EVEmail me.
(Edit: Whether you want to be a troublemaker or not, reply to my post saying you do not want to be one).
