Ok. I want to destroy an active POS.
I bring the dreads etc. I put the POS into reinforced. When exactly does the POS go into reinforced? When it goes down to 25% shields?
When in reinforced, below the POS there now is a counter that tells me howlong it takes before the POS comes out of reinforced.
When the POS comes out of reinforced mode. What options do the defenders have?
1) Put carriers with shieldtransfers in the POS target the tower and start adding shields to bring the shields up to 100%?
2) When out of reinforced, can I add new fuel and strontium into the tower, so it has to be put into reinforced again?

POS goes into reinforced mode when it's shields drop down to 25%.
When POS comes out of reinforced then defenders have option either to try to save it or just let it die. When they pick second then it's relatively easy to remove it as all CPU using structures (shield hardeners, warp scramblers, missile batteries etc) are offline. Should they decide to try to save it then depending on their strenght they can either try to lock system down and boost it out of reinforced with carriers and Osprey / Basilisk cruisers or skip the locking down part and try to boost it out of reinforced before attackers arrive to finish the job.
You can add and remove fuel in reinforced tower quite freely. Note however that this has no effect at all on reinforced POS. For example you can remove all fuel, and it will not go offline as long as it's reinforced (take that one with grain of salt, there has been major patch after I last tried that one) and you can also add fuel into tower (but not strontsium).
Additional note worth knowing is, that after reinforced mode you will not need to get POS up to 100 % shield to online CPU using modules and to add strontsium into tower. You can do that at 50% shields. So in other words, if defenders manage to boost that tower up to 50% shields before attackers arrive then attackers have most likely another merry 3 days of reinforced timer to look at. It's possible to boost small one up to 50% shield quite fast (approx 30 minutes) with quite smallish gang (around 6 logistic cruisers). With 4 Ospreys you can more or less tank one dread shooting at POS (well not quite, but slow its progress down considerably) - assuming ofc that dread support gang does not pop them.

Great. Thanks for your answers!
I have some more questions. Is it possible to setup a cyno point within a POS? If possible I can set this point to be the warping point of the shield recharge carriers.
Also what I've heard is that killing dreads by your deathstar POS is hard to do, since the POS cycles through the attackers. Firing a volley at one ship and then targetting the next ship.
But that a POS guns can be set to target specific players, by setting specific standings towards them. Of course this can only be done by a director owning the POS. How is this done?

set pos to fire only negativ standing. set standing all attacker to 0+, set one attacker to -10. one dead, change standing for next. ----------------------------------------- if you own something that you cant leave behind in 5 min it owns you. i was owned once too. |

And each downtime also adds a considerable amount of shield (~4.3%, aka about 1/6th of what needs to be added in total) Nodecrashes also count as downtimes.
If you combine these facts, and 'creatively' use game mechanics, it will be seen as a exploit.
On a sidenote: POS-es supposedly use twice their regular amount of fuel while in reinforced. Seems to be broken too.

I have heard (in the forums) that managing POS agression with stadnings was considered to be exploit. Altho I myself dont belive that one really. Reason being that standings changes do not take effect until entity you set stanings towards leaves grid (or system) and comes back. So if attacking gang of dreadnaoughts is already sitting on top of POS then it's a bit too late to start adjusting standings. One might try to set POS fire only on agression but I perosnally would not consider that one also very effective strategy. Main role of POS is to remove dread support gang. If dread support cant operate around POS then dreads die solo almost as easily as POS'es without defence gang.

POS standings take between 2-18 hours to update (idk exact #).. so you can't micro manage standings. That "feature" was removed 6+ months ago, before I even started the game.
