Hello:
I would like to know the total size of the current offline installer, which I think I can find in here...
http://community.eveonline.com/support/download/offline-installer/
I have been asking for information like this for a long time, every time theres a new release, and should be obvious and really easy to comply with, since you CCP should know the size for everything you make us download.
I was forced to uninstall the game after the oh so many errors the launcher is making while updating, and I have no guarantee that this wont happen again, but, tried the online installer and the reality is that is a nightmare to use for people with slower connections and limited data plans.
We can still play the game, mind you, but helps us planning in advance if/when a new big patch/release comes, so that we can acquire a higher data plan so that the update can finish.
Oh yes, the offline installer, helps a lot, at least if I have to redo the installation, I dont have to run the online installer and be forced to download everything all over again, but, for the love of God, just add a line on the bottom with the total size.
And... if you can be even more kind... it would be even more awesome to have the size of each payload.
I would thank you in advance, but the reality is... I have asked for this in many places and Im yet to see an official response or just the patch size whenever its announced. Im hopeful this will change, before the next century? :)
Please, really, putting the size its so easy, it should be there already. |

I don't disagree the size should be shown, but I fail to see how this helps you. How does knowing how large the file is change anything? If you have limited bandwidth, you have limited bandwidth...

I used to connect to the internet with a 3GB/month contract. It means I could download just 3GB per month. In such a situation, to know in advance how much data you have to download is VITAL, because if it is too much you can find another way. Download on the fly is cool but when you suddenly find yourself with a third of your monthly data trafic gone, it is not fun.

I used to play tethered to my mobile phone. I have a 1 GB/month data plan. I'd download the offline-installer at the office. EVE's data requirements are very low, however the client (and now asset) download are not.
Unfortunately the offline-installer is no-longer kept updated by CCP (previous release went 3 months without an update), and you never know when an update or asset download will happen. |

Yeah I guess if I had limited bandwidth and there were other options, I would just skip worrying about whether or not it was too large and just go straight to my other option.

[insert]whatcenturyisit.jpg[/insert] Not what century, what place. There are unfortunately plenty of regions in the world where unlimited download is not the norm, but the exception. If available at all that is.
I may be lucky enough to not live in such a region and presumably neither are you. But please have some consideration with those that do. Op's question and request is legit.
Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format.
Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

have you tried running the repair tool rather than trying to download the whole game?

Thanks, that helps a lot.
Yes, I tried the repair, and it didnt work. It downladed teh new version, then started downloading and got stuck, completely frozen.
So, I saved the game folders and the shared folders tdata (except the cache :( ). I thought, I'll do the online, then stop it before it starts downloading, copy data back.... and it worked forthe most part, but I still have troubles undocking and docking in stations I have already visited, and ended up having to disable the station interface. But still, jumping.... starts loading resources, and its not fun in null :)
I needed to know the size of the offline installer because as some said here, we have other options, just not at home. In my case, I spoke with one of my clients and he kindly let me remotly connect to their office so I can put the download to work, and then tomorrow I'll just go pick the data with a usb drive.
Thanks Scipio |

Australia for example where at a time that Google installed fibre to premises/basement in 30 plus US cities in a year and Korea and Japan concluded their 100Mb fibre was too slow for future demand - we voted in a government that believed 20Mb was all you needed unless you are a net pirate and that WII vintage copper in waterlogged pits (with a few bits of fencing wire strung in the gum trees) was fine for modern internet :D

So...Aussieland views the internet as a public utility? The government, rather than the marketplace, determines "what is the internet?" Time to revolt. I mean: This is a knife...? Australian for beer....? This is the INTERNET???

Big country low population. If you follow the Ann Rand approach there would be minimal roads railways telephones or internet outside 5 or 6 major cities.
The real issue though is not neo-lib versus socialist, the semi=privatised aussie telco in the late 90's made a decision to stop maintaining the copper network with a view to going fibre for phone and then a later left wing government decided to piggy back internet bandwidth on the proposed fibre. When the current government torpedoed the fibre plan they were forced to fall back on ancient copper that had been deliberately neglected for a decade because it was supposedly being ripped out.
