I remember reading a story in EVE magazine about 2007. It was about a player who took a covert ops ship and ran around the most dank and dark perimeters in EVE to just... observe. This fellow took pictures of construction sites for titans and all kinds of interesting stuff that is rarely seen by most of us. I thought that was a wonderful concept. Now I'm no stranger to null sec myself, but its been a long time since I was in a holder alliance. I took an experienced alt and put together a nice little cov ops frigate. It was like a dart board. I just pointed to some godawful extreme depth of null on the absolute fringes of the EVE universe and decided to see if I could get there intact. I already adjusted myself to the notion that I might be vaporized at some point, but there is nothing like an adventure with risk. I also wanted to see if my evasive skills were up to snuff. Needless to say, I had no weapons, but considerable speed and stealth to work with. The chosen destination was: MVUO-F . I actually got there intact. The folks running that area are a Russian Alliance. The most aggressive behavior I was subjected to was in low sec, of course. Those people down there are so edgy and full of themselves. When I got well into null, it was as though folks didn't give a thought to my presence, but I'm sure they gave me some scrutiny. There were a few warp bubbles to contend with, but I managed to avoid them. I did see some newer and more interesting anchored objects and stations. The whole experience was fun and challenging. Let's see if I can get back to hi-sec again. In a few days, I'll try another godawful destination. |

I did something similar to this once. I flew my cov frig to the edge of null to the closest point to Jove space to observe Caroline's Star (During the early days). I took lots if pictures and had so much fun doing so. My Alliance were pretty thrilled with the pictures too. I remember I checked D-scan more often in sov and was so happy and again terrified when I saw several Ragnaroks and other Supercarriers on d-scan. It was a wonderful adventure! |

Now that's the spirit!
Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format.
Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

What I really liked about this was how simple and boring......yet leading to a great adventure.
My advice: don't post pictures, just do it, and comment your observations, more importantly: questions - which leads to other adventures.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm not regretting the time spent. Mostly I trade and feed a POS. But in this situation, every jump can be a rush. I figure if I lose the frigate, it's cheap to replace and the exploration and skill flexing is worth a loss. I'll post here again as things progress. More folks should try this. Just to annoy the heck out of the low-sec people. :) |

Nice challenge: that setting on your map "systems I've visited", get it lit up completely. In a non cloaky ship, fit for pvp, and don't exit any region untill youve made at least one kill in it. |

Sure thing! Though I am currently working as volunteer in Africa. But I'll be home somewhere in mid December, so I'll send a link then if you're still interested :) |

Some years ago I tried to circle around the entire eve universe while flying an Hurricane. A shield fit with a cloack (pre nerfed one !)
Started in the deep north, passed by a lot of regions, including Deklein, Fountain, all the south and started to return north passing by Providence. I died there and never made it to the next stage that would be Curse Region heading my way to the east and then north straight by the drone regions.
Took me 3 days until I died in a fire, not to providence holders but to a roaming gang from the russians wich was ironic since I was coming from that area.
I actually managed to pass around a lot of regions (2/3 of them roughly) sometimes running like mad, sometimes hidding, sometimes fighting my way.
Was nice tbh. Alone out there with no boosts, no scouts. Just me and my ship . Some regions were almost empty other had a lot of activity.
That was my biggest adventure in EVE until now.
I'm actually planning to try it again, but this time flying along with my son. We probably will not reach the end of our journey since we will be flying combat ships. But who cares tbh |

So here I am, kids. 1-SMEB, Taylor Swift Empire. Jeezus Wept. You can't make this stuff up. Taylor Swift Empire. On the edge of null. Going into low-sec where I expect things will get obnoxious. It's all good. Got a destination in mind which I will share if I get there.

It certainly does. Here I am in N-RAEL. Lovely nebula. Here be mobile warp disruptors in quantity. I'm on my way to another edge. I'm just a few jumps out of hi-sec and already in null. And the xenophobic cyst grows thick here, it does. Movin' on... |

Arrived at OKEO-X. On the way I saw for the first time ever actual Jove artifacts. There are a lot of their observatories in the area. No apparent sign of activity. One thing that strikes me as different now, as opposed to years ago, is the ability to freely move through null across territorial borders. It was not always so. Borders were usually constantly contested areas where there were chronic red fleet raids and bubble activity. Even an internal holder corporation couldn't get a moment's peace to explore any resources for very long. One thing hasn't changed much. The endless corps and alliances with aggressive names and even more aggressive players and bios. Every body postures themselves as "bad." Just ask 'em. They probably are, but behave so in increasing isolation. About the only way an individual or non-alligned corp could could come down here and do anything remotely profitable might be stealth mining in small amounts or stealth trade if you can establish a friendly agreement. I hear that occasionally, a couple of alliances get their backs up and blow a couple thousand dollars worth of Titans to smoke and then settle back down to wash, rinse, and repeat it again. But for the most part, it's a crypt down here to the casual observer. I was in this alliance once in Providence. They had this creative idea that they'd let anyone in their sovereigncy to trade and prosper. The only rule was no unprovoked aggression or you got set red. It actually worked after a fashion for awhile. But inevitably, the red lists grew to a point of being unmanageable, and the whole place became a human harvesting ground instead of a profit center. But it was fun for while. Today, I suspect most players don't know what goes on down here. And if the folklore has any credibility, they'd probably rather not find out. But it's easy enough to come and look, as long as you don't expect to accomplish much more. I've recently read where ccp feels that things have grown stagnant in null, and seek to change it over time. Now don't get mad at me for saying this; not MY words. I'm just content enough to have avoided getting blown up so far. |
