I was away for a year, and now when I visit my usual mission hubs in Caldari space I find about half as many mission runners around.
Am I imagining this? Have they moved elsewhere? Have there been any changes to Agents or missions? |

Probably moved.
More than likely running missions for Sisters Of Eve Corporation.

Caldari LP tanked for the most part. and as said earlier SoE is very popular right now. I took a great screenshot the other day of NPC kills in highsec. there were 4 red spots, and all 4 were the SoE mission stations, Osmon, Lanngisi, Apanake, and Simela. Plus with SoE LP you don't need to buy any tags.

PS: whenever LP trades do get good, incursion runners can just convert LP and very quickly fill demand. This can do some funky things to tag markets
The 5 run CN BCU and CN Co-proc are both good trades still, but that is very limiting in terms of agents. There are a few other good trades sometimes, but the volume raises questions of is it really worth it?

The game itself lost big number of players this year. CCP checked their statistics and said it were mostly accounts in high sec. High PLEX price freezed many mining alts, but, apparently, some missioners as well.

SOE sucked them all up lol. If The Agent in Gicodel still gave combat missions, you'd see more people in the Dodixe area of Gallente space too. SOE LP is so good because there are so many unique items that are both popular and perishable (SOe ships go pop all the time, ships explode with Sisters launchers and probes on them all the time, etc etc).
There are still good items in other LP stores, but when ccp changes things, there are ripple effects. I used to make a killing running high sec Thukker agents and selling Nomads (to freighter pilots I'd surmise). Now it's all "Ascendancy this" and "Ascendancy that" lol.
But yeam you want to see activity and want to stay in Caldari space, Osmon is a cool place. I prefer Langissi but Osmon is cool because it's so close to Jita. |

Thank you all for the insights.
So, factors influencing the observed trend i.e. decrease in the number of Caldari mission runners: 1. SOE LP value - currently up 2. Caldari LP value - down down 3. PLEX value - currently up

About Osmon: Last time (about 2 years ago) I took out my pimped out Golem there, 5 Tornados tried to gank me, and I escaped by the skin of my teeth... |

this is the kind fo post you get from someone when you've had a discussion with them and where they know they are wrong. It's basically psychological pain making the poster lash out.
The actual cure is confronting the uncomfortable internal thing causing the pain, not making snarky sideswipe posts containing no content.

If you don't fit an unreasonable amount of pimp a gank seems very unlikely. I've pretty much always used the 100m/10k ehp ratio. these days that mostly gets you to 3-4 faction damage mods and maybe a nice booster or prop mod on a typical battleship. I've always thought someone would come gank me for laughs just for all of my forum shiptoasting, and all these years later it just hasn't happened. And overall looking at the killboards ganking just feels way down.
and I wouldn't necessarily say caldari LP value is completely down, but you are limited to a few corps (I can't comment on the agents as I haven't really looked in a long time), it is more volatile, and you have to deal in 100s of millions of tags every time you want to trade LP. According to jEveAssets I have 15billion in tags stockpiled. Most of that is for 2-3 trades for a corp for each of the 3 factions considering most of that is just sitting around waiting for a good trade, that's a lot of isk to just sit around. Although I'm not in a hurry so I'm not really worried about it.

Looking at the record, my fit was as under, though I was experimenting with the mid slots and rigs, and think I was using 2 invulnerability fields and an XL booster when the gank attempt took place.

They scanned me a couple of times when I left the station, thus at the back of my mind I was on guard. When I jumped back into Osmon after a mission, I noted the Tornados, and immediately turned on all my shield stuff, before warping to station, which is probably what saved me. I came back in a shuttle to the gate and was thoroughly amused to to see the (Russian) gankers' corp-mate salvaging and looting their wrecks :)

yea a 5 tornado gank was likely relying on you not activating hardeners which surprises me how often people don't do that, probably the easiest thing to do and makes it so much harder to gank you.
and from what I remember faction invluns used to be gank magnets. the prices are down these days thanks to all the deadspace ones dropping in exploration loot. I think I bought a pithum c-type for ~500m back when they were pretty new as I wanted to go try out incursions. Billion isk+ pithum a-type medium shield boosters were my other favorite thing to scan. these days they cost less than what I remember a c-type going for
