I'm curious how many other people are seeing this, and am wondering if I missed a change announcement somewhere.
When I create characters on a new account, they get the old pre-Vanguard 55k starting SP / skills now. When I asked in rookie help, others are seeing this too. And yet, when another person I was speaking with tried it, they got the expected amount.
What did I miss?
https://community.eveonline.com/news/patch-notes/patch-notes-for-vanguard ... Skills: All new characters will now start with approximately 400,000 skillpoints rather than 50,000. ...

Excuse me?
I know there were problems with the training queue progress for some people that lead to SP being lost. I didn't think I was talking about that - there isn't even a queue involved on newly created characters. |

Have you considered those with 55k might be alts on an account shared with other characters that were created before the change and before the cut-off time for reimbursement (if they did it as a reimbursement)? |

Shouldn't matter. I created a new character after the change on a one year old account and got the 400k SP. |

Did they change the start SP to 400k 1 year ago? Maybe read again what I said. |

So you got 400k as expected, no surprise there.

It's not yours I should of reread it's the op's. Which, I now have done.
I can't see how those at 55k can be created now. Although I can see how there could be 55k characters in-game.
Only way to check is to see the character sp amount and birth date.
If it is legit then he needs to put a ticket in if he has not done so already.

Don't be dumb, if you or a newbie create a new character and instead of the 400k you get 50k then you're going to ask questions and not be happy when people will tell you to "stop whining". If it's true what the OP states in that it doesn't always happen (a quick ask around in Rookie can easily verify this) but it does happen then it needs to be solved. |

I thought the discussion was kinda done with this, but here is what I know of the issue:
So yeah, toons created right before the update would have had the 56k. Toons after had 400k
I thought CCP had some sort of prograded SP thing to account for that so that the short period would affect. Caracters sitting untrained that are older than the short window where this would matter, why should they get more SP?
Throughout the history of eve, there has been tweaks and changes to the skill program. 344k of SP is not much overall in training time, veteran or not. The small number of new accounts and players that would legitimately be at any sort of noticable negative disadvantage is tiny at best. The time spent doing reimbursements and petitions, or creating some program to automatically retrograde? Well that is time wasted that can better be put into improving the game on a whole.

If anyone figures out this bug, let me know.
I had to delete a new character the other day because it had way too many skills I didn't want . I'll gladly take the 55K option so I can make focused characters. The new ones are all over the place.
In fact, I'd be happy to be able to start a character with zero skills injected and zero SP. Alas, from the many times I've been shot down over this idea in the past, it seems I'm the only one that wants it.

I've always thought this is how it should be. It makes sense, doesn't it?
I made a new character about a month ago and went through career missions. I found myself with a heaping pile of skill books that were of no use, since they were already injected. A new player would only feel more disoriented than if they started with nothing and built themselves up with in a way that they were directly involved in. At least to me, it does. But this just gets into more of a "New Player, Broke Broke, Fix Fix" argument.
That being said, anything that is broken should ideally be fixed, yeah?

Likewise http://i.imgur.com/e4YpbBG.png That one's with a day's training on a brand new account. No other history, no other characters. Brand new account was created and that's the character it got. |

So?
CCP said new toons/alts get 400k SP not 50k SP.
If someone creates a new toon/alt and it shows up with anything under 400k, you can bet people will have an issue.
Been around since the beginning.

Ccp the only thing you guys seriously can not mess with is our SP.
And in the past recent time of few months you have repeatedly and continueally messed with our SP.
Someones boss needs to get yelled at by their boss, so they can then roll it downhill and yell at the coders
This is getting ridiculous ccp.
Ima go play Lord Of the Rings online and World of Warships. Hell you guys prob all playing WoWs too cuz you just blatantly stole the Carrier fighter UI POV from them AND THE NEW SHIP HULL DAMAGE/FIRE
Quit messing with our SP |

For a verteran, sure, it's a drop in the bucket, but for a first time player the day-1 difference between 50k and 400k is quite stark. If you're following the career agents then at least you earn the skill books and some guidance for something to do while you're waiting to fit a repair module or shield booster. It makes for a bad first impression for a new player, particularly when other people on rookie help don't have the problem. |

Yeah maybe... but when the new system was implemented players that got the lesser were given the skill points which turned out to be better as the pre-set skills were not necessarily the skills you would want.
I'm pretty sure if this is reported as a bug it will be sorted out sharpish

Made 2 new test ones.

Amarr - Ni-Kummi -Navy Veteran
2015.11.22 03:26:11
starting sp 408,995
sp tester3
Caldari - Deteis - Merchandisers
2015.11.22 03:30:08
starting sp 399,718
As they were different I checked to see what the differences were.
Amarr
Armor 32,000 sp
Hull Upgrades (x2) level 3, Mechanics (x1) level 3, Repair Systems (x1) level 3
Shields 2500 sp
Shield mgmt. (x3) level 1, shield operation (x1) level 1, shield upgrades (x2) level 1, tactical shield manipulation (x4) level 1
Caldari
Armor 4494 sp
Hull upgrades (x2) level 2, mechanics (x1) level 2, Repair systems (x1) level 1
Shields 20729 sp
Shield mgmt. (x3) level 2, shield operation (x1) level 3, shield upgrades (x2) level 2, tactical shield manipulation (x4) level 2
So both worked.
I can't help thinking if these 56k sp newly created characters are fairly common, we don't seem to be hearing much about them on the forums. |
