So, today I bought my first Retriever (hooray!), but I encountered one small problem - the capacitor seems to be too small. 2xModulated Strip Miners almost drain it every cycle, and I have to wait for a bit between warping. That said, I also have all related skills on 3+ level except warp drive operation. So, is it going to be any better when I get all those skills to level 5, or that's how the mining barges are supposed to work? Because right now I only have 2 modulated strip miners on me (dumb, I know, but need to get some money for insuranse asap) and I already have problems with energy. All actual loadouts I found did not include any capacitor related modules, and I also did not find strong enough ones that could fix my problem. Can anyone help? |

While having low skills you should not start the miners same time, start one, wait half cycle and start another, so you can regen capacitor while having better regen instead emptying all of your cap. When you have better skills you can warp longer distances and run hardeners while running the miners also. |

Capacitor Management and Capacitor Systems Operation are very important for cap effiency for all ships, getting them to at least 4 asap, even 5, is pretty useful. |

Cap is just going to be a limitation on the retriever - that's a trade off CCP designed into it. Skills will help. An orca cap boost will help. Staggering your strip miners will help but is a bit annoying. Getting a Procurer will solve the problem.

In the meantime don't start them at the same time.

The Retriever's cap has (almost) always been troublesome. Skills will help but even minor cap drains will require careful management and modules such as Invulnerability fields will eventually cap you out. (Even with max skills). The problem is that the activation cost of two strips is somewhere about 60% of the total cap of the ship so at anywhere below 85% cap you jump right past peak regen.
The solution is to activate one strip, wait for the cap to regen a bit (you could wait half a cycle if you're OCD but somewhere between 30 seconds and a minute is usually appropriate) before activating the second. Staggering your strips (as it's known) has been the only sensible answer to this problem for about the last ten years - there was a brief period when the cap was improved (as I recall) and around the last barge rebalance their warp cost was significantly lower than today which reduced the problem - then a dev spotted that a number was wrong and corrected it making any warp something you had to recover from before mining again. |

Everyone has covered the cap issue so I want to address this one.

I would also recommend supplementing capacitor skills with the Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I on the Retriever. With your cap skills fully trained and this rig you'll be able to pump your lasers (turn them off and on) whenever without draining your capacitor. |

if ur in highsec, dont use a retriever, they are the squishiest of all mining barges, gankers will blow you up for the lols, go with a producer and fit some shield buffers =)
you can extend ur cap with skills |
