Not really a new player but wasn't sure where else to put it
I read the eve wiki and eve uni, but I'm still a little unsure about something.
Sooo, If I war dec a corp, that's in a alliance, will I be at war with just the corp I choose, or the whole alliance?
I'm thinking, It will be just the corp I dec, but the alliance can join in if they wish via the "ally" option? Is that how it works?

I'd guess you run the risk of the whole alliance being at war with you. That's rather the point of alliances.
You can't just declare war on Poland and expect the rest of civilization to stand idly by and ignore their treaty arrangements.
Humanity has won its battle. Liberty now has a country.

The war will automatically apply to all Corporations in the Alliance as well, or more specifically, you cannot in fact declare a war on a Corp that is in an Alliance. You will always declare war on the whole Alliance instead.
Whether or not they will actually come after you, is up to them of course, but if they do, CONCORD will not intervene. |

Oh
That does indeed answer my question, I didn't realise that it worked like this, I was obviously hoping to just dec the one corp, it makes sense though.
Regardless of having my ass handed to be by another 5 or so corps on top of the one I wanted, I don't think the isk cost to dec them would even be worth it too me, I'll have to investigate them a little more (I hadn't even thought about how it works with the alliance untill DT today)
Thank you very much for the info! |

Bear in mind that just because their alliance can gang up on you doesn't mean they actually will. In most cases, highsec alliances under wardec will do one of three things - do everything possible to avoid fighting you, or ignore the wardec and go about their business while you pick them off one by one, or fleet up half of their members in one easily avoidable blob on their home station while you roam around and kill the other half who didn't get the memo.

You cannot declare war on a corporation that is part of an alliance, you have to declare war on the alliance. If you declare war on a corp and the corp joins an alliance the war transfers to the alliance. If a corp leaves an alliance you're at war with a new war is created between you and the corp that left.
Allies that join via the assistance system are unrelated to alliances. Anyone can join as an ally in that way.
In most cases it doesn't actually matter if someone is in an alliance or not, they'll be terrified of you just because you declared war on them and won't even attempt self defense. |

Well it doesn't seem as bad as I first thought
The alliance only has 4 corps in it, with a grand total of 57 players, so it won't cost as much as I had presumed, there killboards only have losses on it for this year and a huge chunk of the players look inactive (I only want to shoot a particular member in the face)
In the process of watch listing everyone so I can see who comes online, what they fly and like to do
Thanks for the extra info Syeed & Vimsy!

It's worth noting that highsec alliances almost always lack either leadership or members or both that are willing to participate in PVP ops in high security space.
It might seem nonsensical, but it's more likely that they'll go on a lowsec roam in frigates than attempt to blow you up, even if you're actively hunting their members at the time. If they actually put together some kind of war related fleet it won't leave the undock of their home station, won't have a coherent composition and probably won't actually engage you if you land in the middle of them completely by yourself. |

That is how you do it. Grab a scout and move as if you were in nullsec when there are a lot of them around, and you'll be fine, even if they decide to come after you. |

You watch list them so you know who to run a locator agent on so you can kill them. Not so you know when you have to be careful.
It's almost as if nullsec people don't know how to fight a highsec war. |

I've fought many a high sec war back in my day. Maybe I have a biased view on things, though - we used to pick corps, that actually fought back, so we didn't automatically assume we were safe from them. The main feature of the watchlist is, that you can see who's online or not. There's no need to hunt, when your target is not online, and when nobody's online, you don't need to watch where you're jumping in highsec. |

It's almost as if nullsec people don't know how to fight a highsec war. Well he would be on point if we were talking about mercs, Forsaken (rip) used to have a threshold, after a certain number of online players and you had to keep an eye on them. Public enemy once they've got 2-1 odds at least.
Granted we aren't talking about mercs though (I'm assuming carebears) so it's more akin to a shopping list rather than an intell tool

Confirming this - getting an alt in will help you tremendously.
As already stated, the defender entitiy in a war must either be an alliance, or a corp without an alliance.
The capacity of defenders to fight back varies. I suggest fighting them in disposable ships to see their capabilities.
If they resist in a sensible manner, respect them and come back stronger next time (or back down if you cannot). If they resist in a ridiculously poor fashion, farm them for kills for ages. If they do not resist, mock them until they do.
I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com
