Edited by: Nev Clavain on 30/01/2007 12:01:15 Yes bring in Jove now, and make it so you have to be level 70 before you can use their uber ships.
Then when you reach level 70 you can pwn everyone because that is your right at level 70.
Skilltraining times, cost , all of this doesnt make any difference. If the ships are significantly better, people will all train for them, and the game will be ruined.
Jove perhaps as interactable content and space - yes. Jove as new uber ships and weapons - definately not.

the jove will represent an evoluation of the game when CCP get a bit low on updates and or need a big content boost - i reckon once we approach a 50k online record that CCP will beging to intergrate the jove more ( could they be coming with factional warfare not sure dont think so)

Like Nev Clavain said, making the training times or costs greater will not balance the game, it will only delay the unbalancing.
I liked Ashturi's idea:
Originally by: Ashturi Nagano
And my thought is: Bring out Jovian ships. But, only make them attainable as really high rewards from agents...especially if CCP can work in a storyline about capturing some Jovian tech and reverse engineering it, or something along those lines. And they WOULD be more powerful, just not as uber-powerful as everyone seems to think they would be. Sure, they wiped the floor with the Amarrians, but they had a giant ship class noone had seen before. The rest of Eve has caught up a bit.
If Jovian ships were limited somehow, they would not have sufficient numbers to unbalance the game.

hmm perhaps ancient civilian jove technology ( jove would keep military grade tech for themselves) perhaps it could at first be done via the angel pirate group ( perhaps they could discover new technology in some ancient jove ruins)
that said CCP have said its a very big job for the content team , what sort of pirate NPC groups would u have out there is the other thing. A lot of stuff needs to go into it and we have kali then planetary interaction expansion before the jove come into play

Of course, if a Jove Battleship costs as much as a carrier to build, then it has the right to be more powerful than bog standard battleships. Otherise if we follow your school of thought, nobody would buy HAC's and just stick with t1 cruisers.
Isk is also a balacing factor - I dont hear anyone complaining that faction battleships are overpowered, even though they cost a arm and a leg

No i mean level 70, yes as in WoW, because thats what this game will be like if you add the equivalent of 'epic' items for the people who grind the most.
Already we have faction ships for people who seem to really love the grind just to get something a little bit better. Or for people who love the grind just to sell and make yet more isk they don't know what to do with.
Put in Jove and those grinders will attain it and demand something more, and then after the next thing they want more and more and more. Just like WoW.
This is a game which allows you to create your own content to a large extent, not a game where you grind for the top level thing, and then wait for the next content patch. I'd like it to stay that way.

Yes we have faction battleships, but no one is satisfied with those anymore, so people now beg for new uber jove ships. It is neverending, and its a slippery slope once you start down this path of making ever more expensive and desirable items with no real specific purpose other than being a bit better than already existing items in their class, without drawbacks. Hacs for example I think are OK because they are inherently vulnerable to some other classes of ships. However if you start another whole level of ships, even beyond that, these vulnerabilities are going to begin to disappear.
Carriers and Dreadnoughts are uber, but they have a specific role, set apart from existing ships. They are a seperate class.
So what if a JOve battlehip cost 2bn to make? If its that much better all the rich will buy one and make it the standard in pvp or pve. Then everyone will be forced to catch up, and when everyone does, the super-rich will want something else. Like i said, when you start down that path it never ends and it satisfies no one.
The satisfaction is often in the struggle to get somewhere, and once you do get there it is deflating. Better that what players struggle towards is set by themselves, rather than some shiny new ship that every man and his dog wants to fly.
A bit of a scattered argument but hey. Anyway to keep the carriage moving, keep the carrot where it should be, in front of the horse not in its mouth. Just tantalisingly out of reach. Close enough to strive for, impossible to get there.

Your point is that once people get a "Uber Mobile", then everything else is obsolete. This is only really true if all a person does is lvl4 missions. If you are pvping, then no matter what you fly - it is already an explosion waiting to happen.
Lets say a hypothetical Jove Battleship came out today, and was basically a Abaddon with double armour/shield/hull and used lasers that did double damage over standard lasers. Now you might say "Omg PwnMobile", however if such a beast cost 2bil to setup - then there is a lot of collateral that can be lost if it goes pop.
You see, anyone flying a Jove ship will get called primary every time, and anyone soloing in a Jove battleship will attract every random pirate in the constalation to dampen such a ship and easaly tackle it. There is a reason why the CEO of the Jove NPC faction is a Minmatar :)
Your argument is the same as the argument against the original battleships before they came out. I am not fussed either way if Jove ever enter the game this side of the decade, however you cannot write off ships by saying they are overpowered until you look at the cost. -- Slot 10 Blacklight's Modified 'GMhaX' implant +8% Pwnage FREE |

I see what you are saying and i do agree with it to an extent. For example I don't think very specialist setups like nanoBS should be nerfed, partly because one of their drawbacks is the risked collateral and the cost to set one up, which people seem to ignore. Cost is what defines risk, and is an important part of the balance equation.
However a few extra points i'd make.
1) maybe in a gang of 100 v 100 you'd call the jove ship primary because it would die almost as quick as any other target and you've inflicted a huge loss. In smaller gangs its rarely wise to target first a ship that is tanking like an absolute beast, because that pilots gangmates will waste half your fleet while you are trying to take out this ubertank.
2) I think Dev time is better spent elsewhere. We already have expensive faction toys that cost billions to setup. We already have capital ships. Most people are a long way from experiencing all the content that already exists in this game. At the same time we have bugs that havent been solved, and lots of new content, yet to be released, that has been promised and is much more original than new ships, which would actually add new elements to the game rather than a another expensive toy.
For me, at least, Jove should be on the backburner.

I just read this chronicle http://www.eve-online.com/background/potw/11-02-05.asp
If this jove space was opened, wouldn't jovian ships simply murder anyone that went in?

Well, lets review:
Jovians have a lust for knowledge. Jovians are really powerful. Jovians have genetically "enhanced" themselves to the point of near extinction.
Now, there are a few possible plots to add them: -big galactic war, joves come in and kill everything(lame) -big galactic war, joves come in and save the day(even worse)
now, something new and exciting: If the joves love knowledge, maybe they know about earth. Maybe that wormhole opened and closed for a reason. Maybe the jovians know something and they are scared, and hiding it from the rest of the universe.
Whatever that may be that could be for the devs. id love to see some alien race come in after some big galactic war, and something like the race opening a wormhole and dividing humanity, and then destroying earth, and now coming for the rest of humanity. something like that, but thats just me. im trying to play and type and im loosing my train of thought...

I don't think they should add the Jove any time soon. I do like the idea someone said earlier about some low grade tech is found or stolen, and reversed engineered. And maybe tie in some radical Jovian seeking revenge which leads to in game events. Maybe even have the Jovians give some away to balance things out during faction war.

meh, opening up jove space would just take some wonder out of the game. but the theory about making them oober powerful..um..its simple, if we had to "unite" the player factions...the nodes would crash the second BoB or Goon decided to put a massive fleet to use ( no flaming meant ). so if ccp does decide to put the players up against a crazy strong npc faction. they better do some serious upgrades to there servers. and have fun organizing the neutral corps and getting past old grudges...but i admit..it would make titans have another use other then BoB and Goonfleet blowing eachother to hell with them, lol
