Smacktalk is generally kept to the corp and alliance forums.

Hi and welcome
I see they allready told you the most important thing (dont fly what you cant afford to loose) Another very good tip I got as a newbie was to accept eve for what it was and work with its mechanics instead of wishing it was otherwise, makes the game more fun and its the mindset that makes it possible to actually be all you want in eve

One thing that continues to amaze me, even 10 months in, is how EVE has a genuine, player driven ecomony and industry. All other MMO's have tried to come up with some sort of in-game economy or in-game "crafting" system that utilizes player resource gathering, and the for the most part they have all failed horribly. They might be passable, but they usually feel pretty fake and contrived. The fact that almost every mod, ship, or other piece of equipment you buy is player built, and that you can place loot for sale on the market and have it sell within minutes to a real player, just blows my mind sometimes.
I actually stayed in an NPC corp for about 4 months before joining a player corp. Gave me the chance to get a decent feel for the game and figure out what I am interested in before actually looking for a corp.
If you wandered into 0.2 space already you are probably interested in PvP. I would recommend Agony Unleashed, their website is www.agony-unleashed.com. They are a fun corp who just go around shooting stuff. They also offer a class on PvP Basic.
If you need cash I would recommend mission running. It's kind of a PvE grind similar to what you see in WoW, but it's good for funding your PvP adventures.
Finally, I've been playing for ten months and I still learn new things all the time. There's no real comprehensive guide so people often need to ask each other for help. I think everyone remembers what it felt like to be entirely overwhelmed by this game and is why most people are pretty eager to help others figure it out and share their knowledge. There is a pretty decent amount of whining and flaming on the forums, but it's not as bad as most other games and it's mostly coherent at least. ----------------------------------------------------

Actually, Pre-CU, Star Wars Galaxies had almost an entirely player driven economy. Clothing, armor, weapons, food, drink, healing supplies, housing, harvesting equipment, etc. (Some VERY rare drops were worthwhile, but they were about as rare as the exceptional faction gear in Eve)

I just left WoW too...
EVE is so far much to my liking, it has all the things a person could need, including names that include spaces. no more Lostninja for me.
Server went down today... but for me in WoW I have been unable to login at all since before christmas on one character. Repeated tracerts != tech support.

Very true
Overall SWG the original had a great crafting system, the market (how to sell your stuff, alwasy kinda of sucked - stupid buildings ringing major cities).
Eve is top notch too, if inventions helps more players get into high end crafting, then that part of the game starts to become one of Eve's strong points, where as now the limited access for new players to enter the end game of manufacturing is a draw back in my mind.
P.S. welcome to Eve, enjoy it, dont get worry about losing ships, new ones are put on the market all the time for you to buy and get blown up in a again.

Thats actually why I ended up being a trader/builder. Tech 1 mind you. Asside from not having the money for tech 2 i also doubt its as much fun since there is less competition. Tech 2 is more a fun thing to have cause it makes you enough money to buy total freedom. I came from Utopia (the good old days when it was still a challenge to play) and spend a long time finding a new game. When my guy introduced me into Eve I asked him if I could do the agressive attacker thing in here and he confirmed. It made me join but within a day I was hooked on the market and I have to even still leave safe space. I fly some mission on the side and do it rather well for a trader but still...
(added info for newbies: T2 is gained by winning a lotery in wich you get tickets trough an agent, you need lots of tickets to win. The items are highly expensive and so are the bpo you can win.)

That's hilarious. I stopped playing WoW about six months ago (did the whole 60 endgame thing on a gnome mage) and Eve is increadibly refreshing. The entire game is completely player-driven while WoW and other games do not allow players to impact the game at all. Simply amazing. I just activated Eve two days ago after playing the trial for a few days.
I'm trying to get more comfortable with the game, but I've already set my sights on pvp. Thanks for posting those links, I'll be looking into EVE U. and Agony Unleashed when I get a chance. I've spent the last four days absorbing Eve information like a sponge on a mission. I've already got my learning skills to level 3 and working on level 4.
Great game so far. Haven't lost a ship yet, though. And I'm about to explore some of the tanking posibilities, particularly passive and active shield tanking. Granted, I'm still in a frigate so I don't expect awesome results, but I am curious to see the trade-offs.

but relax, this place is not like WoW, the forums are full of (mildly) more mature people, and there's often some decent discussions going on.
in-game can be a little less friendly, it's a tough universe, and if you find yourself in a PvP situation, people won't go easy because you're new. that said, there are alot of nice folks out there, we're not all evil pirates out for your ISK... not all the time anyway ========================================== Iy |

Good luck on your future and remember posting is a privilege not a right. Read the topics before you post and be a good and evil PVP pilot. Most kill npc players on sight soo find yourself a player corp soon. New NPC NPC Market |

I can echo this sentiment. I'm coming up on three years as well and tbh there is still so much I want to try out just to say I've tried it. The key though is, and in order to fend off boredom, is to realize that the "fun" is player driven and when there is no fun the first player to look at is the one you see in the mirror each morning :) Not a dev, or a gm, or a fellow corp\alliance member, etc. It's you, you are the master of your own storyline\fun\destiny in Eve.

hullo thar. you've probably figured it out for yourself, but eve is pretty much what you make it - what you put in is what you'll get out; (maybe more collectively than individually though) it's not a game that will tell you where to go and what to go, it requires more thought process and imagination than that

Lucky...
Mine have never wanted to play EVE (and they all enjoy other MMO's) unless they can have a pretty avatar. They'll play with the character generation, spend 3 hours, and create a masterpiece.. but then they don't want to play.
Hopefully they'll add third person control in stations like it's been rumored.. then I'll get one to play EVE with me.
