I've been going through EVE Source and the Tony G novels in preparation for some tinfoil hattery I'm working up, and I noticed two instances that conflict with the main timeline:
Empyrean Age, p. 440 - Quote:Aulus blinked his eyes at the wreck, trying to grasp the fact that he was beholding equipment built more than thirty thousand years ago.
Templar One, p. 64 - Quote:The station, whose origins predate the closure of the EVE gate by 14,000 years...
This station is also explicitly referred to as Terran.
The Official EVE Timeline shows that the EVE gate was only open for 74 years following its discovery; it was discovered in AD 7987, first traversed in AD 7989, and collapsed in AD 8061. The current year (YC 117) equates to the year AD 23,353.
In order to predate the EVE gate collapse by 14,000 years, the Terran station would have had to have been constructed ca. 6,000 BC, or earlier.
I would normally dismiss it as an error, but the fact that roughly the same number appears across two different novels makes me scratch my head a bit. The 14,000 number doesn't even make sense if it was "14,000 years ago", as that would place the origins of the station over 1200 years after the collapse, well into "The Dark Ages" (and likely within the purview of the First Jove Empire).
What's going on here?

This is almost certainly an error.

It's an error.
Besides, the devs have stated EVE: Source is the official source on lore, so the books aren't. As soon as the novels contradict the Source, the Source is right and the novels are wrong. |

Hopefully next time CCP wants to have a novel written they hire an author willing to do his homework. |

IIRC TonyG was a big part of the lore team for several years and just ended up a victim of the post-Incarna layoffs.
Actually, it seems that the majority of the devs who publicly associated with the lore/world-building are gone - Abraxas hasn't made a forum post in a year and a half, Dropbear left, Eterne got laid off, etc.
It kind of looks like everything lore-wise has been left to Falcon and Delegate Zero to do in their spare time, when they're not swamped with PR and rebalancing stuff. |
