Hi
I'm a new player too.. about 12 days old.. also around Arnon sector so hit me up if you wanna fleet up and do stuff together.
Anyway.. in regards to your question about insurance and ships.. don't expect too much.. they pay you some ISK when you get your ship destroyed but most probably won't cover your costs anyway...
Have you done career agent missions? Those missions serves as introductory tutorials and you can get a few million ISK and a bunch of frigates, mining barge and destroyer.. so perhaps that will solve your problem and make you happier. Just press F12 and start...
See ya around.

Memphis Baas wrote:Oh wow, that's pretty bad. Fitting a ship, in general: 1. Start with the weapons. Pick long range or short range. If you look at your Rifter's description (right-click it and show info), it offers damage bonuses if you fit projectile weapons, so fit those! Fit short range autocannons: High slots: 3x 125mm Gatling Autocannon I 2. Whether it's long range or short range, you need propulsion to control the range: Med slots: 1mn Afterburner I 3. Fit defenses. You're a frigate, so the defenses are your speed and agility. And maybe a shield booster or armor repairer. Because of the energy neutralizing issue with the one boss mentioned above, try a passive shield defense. This means you want to extend your shield as much as possible, and then increase the natural regeneration rate of your ship's shield. It uses no cap at all. So: Med slots: Medium Shield Extender I (this is a cruiser-sized module, oversized for the Rifter) Low slots: Shield Power Relay I x3 (these will recharge your bigger shield) Remaining slots: Med slot: Explosive Deflection Amplifier I (shield resistance module) High slot: if you have the powergrid skills to fit a rocket launcher, go ahead. You can try to replace one of the Shield Power Relay I's in the low slots with a Micro Auxiliary Power Core to create more power to fit the rocket launcher, but your defenses will be lower. I copied this fitting from the EVE University wiki, and a lot of people say they have some pretty bad fittings there, but it's better than what you have. You can google "Rifter PVE Fittings" if you want, but the basic idea is the same: - start with the weapons and figure out what range you want to fight at - make all other slots enhance the weapons or provide appropriate defenses (including speed as a defense) You typically want all the slots on a ship to be fitted for a purpose, rather than with random crap that you have in your hangar from previous missions.
Oh thank you so much. I can't express how humbled I am by all your advice. You guys really are like a giant family

If you run missions, I suggest not using ACs, but going long range instead.
It makes it far less tedius. A thrasher with 280s works wonders for lvl1s and lvl2s.
I suggest you go read guides on fitting ships, instead of copying fittings of others.
You know how it works. Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day ... ... and annoy you the next day again, because he wants another fish ... ... so he'll just get killed, because he's an annoying, self entitled ****.
Instead, teach him how to fish so you don't have to kill him.
:)
Oh and ... it looks like you did not do all tutorials ...

There's tutorials that teach you how to fit your ship, at least rudimentarily. I assume you did not do all of them, else you wouldn't have fitted your ship this way.
It's like you either completely ignored it, or didn't do them at all.
Do them. Read guides. It's not hard, really.
Just take your time. In EVE, everything takes time. :)

Use the rig slots if you can, that aside it's much better.
A note for PvP, if you plan on killing another player you need to stop them from simply warping away, warp disruptors/scrambles will do this.

They go into your ship in the exact same way that modules do but you can't remove them without destroying them.
They generally should be used for further emphasising the ships role so read the descriptions as they change the attributes of the ship.
T1 rigs should be cheap enough.

For the SOE arc there is a lot of travel so Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer rigs are worth considering so you warp faster.
If you want to make the passive tank a bit more bullet proof consider Core Defense Purger Rigs.
If you are more concerned with your guns there is quite a choice in projectile rigs. Some make your guns fire faster (more damage) others give your more damage per shot and there also rigs that will give the guns more range or help them track fast targets better.
Finally if your fit is tight and there is a module that almost goes on but you are a tiny bit short of power or CPU there are fitting rigs that can help. |

So I insured my ship a while back whilst in a different sector (can't remember which). I just got blown up and want a new ship from my insurance. How do I get it? You don't. When you got blown up your insurance paid straight into your wallet. You have to get the actual ship on your own. |

1. You are asking questions. This gets high marks here in EVE as the game is really all about learning, establishing a process that works for you, and socializing. Straight whining about certain mechanics (with no questions on how to become "better") and chewing out people because they do not conform to how you think things should be will get you trolled into oblivion.
2. You are in the New Citizens Q&A. Other forum sections are a fair bit more hostile... especially so if you don't "get EVE."
3. We want our newbies to "succeed" so we have more things to shoot at.

Yeah, we'll answer questions here; I don't think we're posting any mind-blowing revelations or anything, it's just stuff we've googled in the past and remember the answer to. No need for extra thanks. Especially since in-game we won't hesitate to shoot, if presented with a favorable situation where shooting you (PVP) and looting your stuff is profitable.
The game has some depth to it. You have to consider how you fit your ship, so that the ship's purpose and listed bonuses are maximized. CCP devs have balanced the game and the ships assuming that you're fitting correctly; a ship without proper modules and weapons is like a naked dwarf trying to solo a dragon (it'll go down in flames). |

Well thanks where thanks is due. A lot of the time I am wandering aimlessly about so all help is appreciated, and the info here for me is a revelation. There is so much guidance on Google, some good and some bad, and I could spend time researching it all (and I do) but these bits of advice allow me to hit the ground running so to speak.
Every day is a school day and I am slowly gaining confidence in interacting with others in Eden. Hopefully one day I will be able to ladle advice onto others in the same helpful way.

How can I avoid webifier's? http://imgur.com/qqsqqou Make range and speed your tank. On this one you mix active boosting with relays for passive regen. A booster alone is sufficient. Damage control, gyrostab, etc. Or just overdrives like I would use.
