First I will say that I have played Valkyrie at Fan Fest, and absolutely loved it. It was fun, graphics in my opinion were on point, and game play brought back some memories of X-wing vs Tie fighter.
If I were to buy the Oculus Rift, the investment would be mainly for Valkyrie because other titles don't intrigue me much.
So my concern is this...
Is Valkyrie going to be more vaporware like the majority of CCP's other titles where they release it and barely support it, or does CCP have more than a handful of people dedicated to making sure this new pioneered experience becomes all that it can be?
As much as I want to lye to myself, I know from past experiences that if something is not profitable right off that bat, CCP will do the absolute minimum to keep up appearances with public relations, and slowly abandon it.
Biggest example to date would be DUST 514, and the apparent abandonment of Legion?
Would past failures like DUST 514 make you think twice before investing in another one of CCP's products? Share your thoughts below... |

It just became profitable recently, and that is because all of the third world countries started buying ps3 and dust is free to play.
Hilmar was interviewed just recently and stated that they just started turning a profit on the game.
There is barely any support for the game so please dont try to defend it.
CCP released the game for ps3 6 months before the ps4 came out, and then had no plans for ps4 or backward compatibility. |

With Valkyire they have a bunch of outside investment and sounds like oculus (now part of facebook) is pretty interested in it too. It turning into vapor ware would be a very bad thing for CCP.

Valkyrie is an amazing game and tons of fun - even if I get a bit motion sick myself (probably bc I haven't mastered the settings yet). I have full faith in this title to become huge - the only concern that I may have is if it will or how it will be connected to EVE in similar ways that Dust is - if that is to happen and how that may affect things - and the worry is that Valkyrie will like magic pop up on facebook feeds as a social feature...

The future of gaming is the holodeck - or as close as they can get to it. And, believe me, there are folks out there trying. Not to see if it can or will be done, but to be involved in it when it comes to be. Valkyrie is a substantial step in this direction. (As such, it has already put CCP in yet another chapter of computer gaming history.)
I often tell people to do EVE's trial just to be part of the history that is computer gaming. I tell them, "You may not want to subscribe, but you owe it to yourself to take a look at it, if only to say you've seen it." Valkyrie looks like the same thing in that sense, and in that sense if you have the fundage to be a part of this early development, you do owe it to yourself in that regard - to be a part of history however small.
If you're one of these people who consider themselves self-proclaimed gaming experts who play games just to make proclamations from on high about their sucktitude or lack thereof, you're probably not the sort of person who should be involved in a seminal activity. There's bound to be something to criticize, however minute, and we wouldn't want anyone to be unduly upset now, would we?
The problem with absolute immersion will always pivot on the interface. Oculus is certainly not the final word in this. The group that developed it will be the first to tell you, twenty years from now there will be this type of interface gaming world-wide as the rule, and they intend to have a product in there providing this interface. It won't be this one. This is a step along the way.
A great movie directed by Mamoru Oshii and written by Kazunori It+ì, Avalon gets into this sort of total immersion gaming quite well. This is one of my all time favorite flicks, and if you get a chance to see it...DO. You should be suitably impressed.

Well written. Though I agree with the majority of what you said, my concern still rests with CCP's behavior after launch. If DUST is any indication of their attitude post launch, then I will suffice to say it will be another let down.
Considering the game is going to be bundled with the VR pre-order, I am concerned with CCP's faith in their own product. I hope I am wrong in saying this, but it feels like launch is going to be a one hit wonder, and they took the offer from Oculus as a bit of insurance to make sure they get back the money that they at least invested in it. From there it is more than likely going to be Marcro transactions out the butt considering the prices that CCP wants for their skins, and it will slowely kill itself due to lack of updates similar to Dust and no new content or context in relation to the Eve Universe. Basically it will be something neat for 6 months, and then everyone will forget about it. |

The biggest problem for me is the rift itself. I'm not paying facebook for anything, ever. So unless it come out on the Vive I won't be getting it for the PC. If it comes out on the morpheus it all depends on how much other use I'd get out of a morpheus.
That said I haven't really paid enough attention to Valkyrie to know if it's worth it. Like is there progression or anything like that? It's not an MMO in itself I don't believe. What makes it better than something like Elite? I've played the demo at fanfest, but I'll definitely be waiting until other people have played the full release and confirmed it's not terrible anyway.

I vaguely remember that Valkyrie is an Oculus exclusive, but I could be wrong as I do not want to bother researching at the moment.
Anyways, the whole anti-Facebook thing is dumb as the device will have no relation required to Facebook.
Also I bet you are angry at FB for requiring real info without ever trying a believable fake name and posting information not actually valid.
I might be biased as my Facebook stock is up 40%.

I tried a VR game before, and it was a pool game or some other game with a 3D visor that was over my eyes with 3D effects in the lens. This was in the 1990s.
I also tried holographic games where the display was not mounted on the head but on which you could put your hand through the image and it would still work.
This could be used for other control activation (the hand location), but in that game it wasn't used for controls. This was around the late 1980s, early 1990s.
I can link the holographic game system, but I don't think I would find a link to the first VR set game.
Computer systems were not half as good as they are now, even if that may be exponentially true. |

1) to the vaporware argument: WoD was just not gonna work how ccp wante dit to, this happens. Dust is profitable. Gunjack is out and is rather fun to play, though simple. EVE is profitable. Legion is.. well we dunno.
so that means 2 profitable games, 1 selling well, 1 vaporware, 1 we dunno. Thats a rather good track recored
2) Valk is Vr only, said many times, and rift exclusive. However, as this is the damn pc, i'm sure someone will find a way to play vlak on any head set you want.
3) the 'if ccps support of there other games is any indication" comment... they supported eve for years, and years. The decided, wisely, to convert Dust, which at the time wa snot profitable, to the pc, but have sense stalled. Id rather a game company learn form mistakes and correct them, then plow on ahead blindly.
I will be buying a rift day 1, cause i'm loving my gearVR
OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!
Yes i am optimistic about eve.. i'm giving it till dec 31st 2016 before i doom n gloom
