Hello all. I would like to get into FW and while I have done a little research I still have some questions best answered by FW players. Im looking to join up either with Amarr or Caldari and I understand these factions operate in different warzones. I get that any faction can fight in any warzone, but what is the general difference to be expected to living and working either in the Amarr or Caldari militias? Things such as most used ship types (in general) and expectations of Third Parties and such would be some great info.
Also, who are some of the bigger corps in these two groups that are currently recruiting? Any info would be greatly appreciated. |

Finally, I will give you ShahFluffers-handy-dandy-list-of-dos-and-don'ts-for-being-in-militiaGäó
1. SET UP YOUR OVERVIEW!! Make it so that "friendlies" do not show up (helps to prevent friendly fire incidents and reduces irrelevant information) and especially make sure that militia status is above suspect status (quite a few militia members have low security status... if you attack them you will incur a large faction standings penalty... and will often be blown up at the hands of your allies).
2. Buy ships and mods in bulk (mostly frigates and destroyers) and fit them in about 2 or 3 different ways ways for flexibility (ex, shield-fit, armor-fit, DPS/gank-fit, nano-fit, etc). Have them sitting, pre-fit, in an easy to access station... preferably one in low-sec that many other militia members use.
3. You will lose a lot of ships in militia. Have a steady source of income to replace stuff (which can come from running complexes in low-sec FW systems).
4. Do not give away friendly fleet locations and/or friendly ship types in Militia Chat. The enemy has many spaiz!!!
5i. Learn the area well. Even the high-sec areas. This will help you when you are looking for stuff to kill or escape from hostiles.
5ii. Just because combat is more open and encouraged in low-sec it does not mean the enemy militia may not stage attacks in your high-sec area. Keep in mind that joining Faction Warfare puts you in a GLOBAL war declaration. You can be attacked anywhere at any time. Even in Trade Hubs. Especially in Trade Hubs.
6i. When looking for a fleet, type "X" into militia chat and eventually you will get picked up.
6ii. Alternatively, go out and roam a bit. If you stumble upon a friendly fleet, they might pick you up. If not, keep looking (and try killing some stuff while you're at it).
7. Once you join a fleet, join audio (be it the in-game EvE audio, Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Mumble, etc) and LISTEN.
7i. LISTEN SOME MORE.
7ii. ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE LISTENING????
7iii. If you cannot figure out where the fleet is by listening, ask [politely] by typing in fleet.
8. The FC (fleet commander) is GOD himself and his orders should be followed to the letter (ex. even if you're in a frigate, SHOOT THE GODDAMN "PRIMARY" that has been called). Try to keep idle talk to a minimum (unless nothing is happening) and don't say anything when an engagement is underway. If you have a question... use your best judgement and ask after it is over.
9. Get to know the "regulars" within your timezone and help them whenever you can. Good things will follow if you make friends with them.
10. Listen to everyone's advice... no matter how abrasive it is. Chances are, they know what they are doing and you don't.
And most importantly... have fun!!

Shah, excellent response and exactly what I was looking for. Kudos for taking the time to write all this out for me. It was very much to the point and while some of the basic stuff I already knew, like how to act on comms, all the faction stuff is spot on and highly informative.
This gives me a better idea about how to start finding a corp that will fit my needs and that I can contribute positively to. Thanks again mate. |

Shah is one of the most outstanding helpful and smart posters on these forums. His posts are always very helpful.
I think I am correct that the only sizeable Corp in Amarr is Dirt n Glitter but you could also try Space-brewery-Association (EU) who I think are recruiting.
Dunno who is recruiting in CalMil although Pyre might take you on if you want to go through the application? Desiderata is the contact via mail or the Pure public channel.

I will chip in with a couple of extra points on the quality of Corp you seek to join:
1) Check if the Corp you have selected live inside the Warzone. If they do then it is likely that they have a more PVP focus and might even have a level of skill at it! Check their killboard to see how active they are and what they tend to fly.
2) Rather random bit of advice is to speak to people in the enemy militia and ask who they think are good in your militia. (Ask a few people to avoid the risk of Trolls). After all the enemy militia pilots are on the receiving end of your factions pvpers and will know which groups they take seriously and which have a better attitude (give gfs in local, honour arranged 1v1s etc).
As far as the two warzones and militias in general go you have a different context.
If you join Amarr militia you have the chance to make a big difference, their back is against the wall as they are down to a handful of systems left. Caldari Militia is bigger with a wider range of things going on in our Warzone so it would be a little more chilled out.
Likewise there are a lot of Cal Mil corps you can approach for recruitment whereas you are limited for choice in Amarr Mil.
Good luck. |

I found everything agreeable by mr. Fluffers except for the friendlies only overview. You want to be able to see where your friends are if you plan on skirmishing and not just afterburner brawling, which is probably the best thing to hop in to learn basics. Try something that is known to be tanky and you'll live a bit longer usually.
As for the overview, I would recommend using a main normal tab that has everything related to plexes and whatever can shoot you. I keep drones on my main overview and remove them when I need to clear them out. I refresh the saved layout to bring them back. It's quick. I would create a separate tab for enemies only. You just uncheck the fleet members, corp mates and allies and that should be enough. Remember to adjust things by range when you are skirmishing, by type if you are leading or following primaries. If you freeze up, the best thing to shoot is usually the closest thing.
There is no grey area when the light of reason directs wisdom.

I Will share my thoughts .... I have flown in both militias (although it looks like you went Gallente). An ealier poster is correct in that you will find more role play aspects in Amarr Militia, but honestly it's mostly in good fun (and alot of it actually focuses on what you can fit and fly). At the moment the Amarr are smaller, but most of the riff raff has been cleansed, and in general alot of the pvpers that still remain are very good. To get in a trustworthy place within the militia, get some kills and be persistent when attempting to join militia ops. Dont take exclusion personal (easier said than done), but sometimes when fighting outnumbered fc'S need ringers. Some of the better corps in Amarr Militia are a tad bit selective, but if you really are serious about learning - their are some great minds and theory crafters in the Empires cohorts.
It's a great place to be if your willing to do your part.
