// You've missed me, haven't you?
I haven't posted in a while, I'm sure some of you were hoping I was gone for good. Too bad about that. I'm in orbit of Ember, the white dwarf companion star a light year from Origin. Its 45 days out by warp, and to get here in the first place and put down a nav beacon, you need a relativistic accelerator. We started poking around all the nearby luminaries a few months back. The old maps from Project Compass say there should be another system with wormhole connections 2.4 Light Years away from us, but we're not sure how accurate that is. Its one of the things we hope to discover.
// Deep space exploration, living the dream.
We started launching during the summer. I took NES-3 out of ODESSA on October 1st myself.
// Very good and all, but why stop my wacky drug antics story? It was after all a great way to kill time. Maybe my heart just isn't in it. Thats happening more often of late.
We found something out here. We pulled into orbit of Ember on November 14th, and were a few weeks into our survey when we detected it. I'm not sure what to think anymore.
// Maybe its better to just not come back.
I've been doing my best to help New Eden for a few years now. Move humanity as a whole forward a little. It doesn't seem to have helped all that much though. Aside from a small initial buy in by a few capsuleer groups, the RNGRI has seen limited acceptance, and aside from our own NIE/NES ships, which aren't competing, progress on the Interstellar X-Prize has been rather limited. Maybe it would be best if we just closed our borders and turned away from the Old Empires; maybe they need to find their way on their own.
So now I find myself here, wrapped in the meloncholy light of a dead star's funeral pyre. Finally though, I've found something new. Something that challenges my ideas about reality, morality, and human nature. Architectural Eschatology? Or maybe echoes of a lost future . I feel a strong sense of presque vu, as if I'm on the edge of a divination and can't quite grasp it. It must sound like I have the space crazies. Revelations of things to come? How can that be?
// I set out to build something good, and I suceeded.
So why do I still feel this longing for unseen vistas and places remote? What did I discover? And where am I really going?

I'd never experienced that sort of thing. Whenever I do sit still and stare at something for long periods of time, I'm sober and I'm thinking about how lucky I was to be in the presence of the subject of my maybe-kinda-sorta creepy-stalker-ish stare.

Ennui is just a fancy word for boredom. You have two options:
1) Find a distraction. Kill some pirates, crash a market, pick up a datapad and play Irritated Avians.
OR
2) Confront the ultimate source of the "ennui" and stare into the deep abyss of endless time and inconceivable distance which renders everyone, even the technically immortal, meaningless and insignificant in the greater context of the Universe. Come to terms with it. Internally nurse a mixture of apathy and resignation while preparing for the all too inevitable demise of the current conscious assemblage of your atoms. Then let go and wait for the course of things.
Or buy the Load o' Gems pack on Irritated Avians which has a holiday discount right now of 49.99 ISK.

49.99 ISK? Someone could retire planetside comfortably and snip off branches of tiny trees for the rest of his perhaps sixty or so decades of his life!

I think you are overestimating the cost of comfortable planetary retirement but, more importantly, underestimating the value of the Irritated Avians package which is priced very well in the overall scheme of Irritated Avians purchases and, now, at a crazy low price for the holidays.
This has not been a directly compensated endorsement of the product described by the IP owners of the Irritated Avians franchise.

Dear Ms. Saede,
Though I don't think I have the right to actually claim missing you, it's good to hear from your endeavours. It has always been hard to miss this certain urging drive in your posts or speeches. The drive to reach beyond and go farther and to explore the outer universe as well as the inner one.
A part of me envies your courage and outrageous turning away from the Empires. But on the other hand, I am a bit worried. Isn't it the case that by extending the borders of space and thinking, you slowly diminish the proportion of what is a solid core of truth and relevance to life? Anyway, you turn back and post again. I consider this a point of reflection. And in answer to your questions I would carefully advise that fundamental and absolute self-reflection propably is the way to overcome ennui or self-estrangement.
As respected Makoto Priano pointed out above, we are presently pushing beyond borders of a different kind. Maybe not so remote as yours, but nonetheless alien and threatening. Though I know that the latest revelations are hitting the core of the Empires and are far away from Origin (or Ember), I encourage you to turn back and re-attach yourself to the matters at hand. What you described in your post as a universal ennui, happens in the heart of every single soul every day - in some way. Falling back from the outer reaches of space to the individual's struggle for daily life is merely a wink.
Respectfully yours,
Haria Haritimado Itsukame-Zainou Hyperspatial Inquiries Ltd.

You are being touched by God. Fortunately, it is not difficult to find out what God wants from you, and I have repeated these things over and over for a year or two now. De-Minmatarization. Three Minmatar, one of each bloodline, a golden vial, and an Altar of God. You already, Saede Riordan, perform blood drinking, vivisection, and genocide just as I do. You are so close to God. Complete the journey. Amen. Amarr Victor. |

I think you are thinking of retirement in terms of living in a palace in the Throne Worlds rather than a typical housing in a typical urban or rural settlement. 49.99 ISK is more than enough if you do not go around throwing lavish parties to impress your courtiers and you are not trying to maintain a garden the size of a small town.
From the way you say it, I suspect that the package is aimed towards capsuleers from the get-go. Baseliners do *not* make purchases using ISK values. There is not a single sandwich that is priced with the ISK currency.
