Are "hotdrops" (cynoed capital ships), really, honestly THAT common?
I have been playing EVE in Null for years, and I think I can count on one hand the number of truly "hot" drops that I have seen... The nerfs to supercaps will cause more super pilots to join the largest alliances who can properly "support" their deployment, further concentrating firepower/wealth in EVE. The end result will be fewer "fun" fights, and will hurt EVE in the long run. |

Build a bridge, do they call you Bridgebuilder Bob ? Save many lives, do they call you Lifesaver Bob ? But have improper relations with one sheep... ...and they call you Hotdrop Bob.
Or something like that. Sorry, out of funny right now due to potential censorship. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Contributor_name:Akita_T#Contributions_link_collection |

hot drops now days use black ops( and other ships that can use cloaks), but yes hot drops are common in null if your in range of the main hot dropping points

it's probably more prevalent in lowsec than in null...
edit -- and even then, probably "not common" -- much like the "you will get OMGWTFGANKED if you jump into lowsec" thinking... |

Not terribly common but fun to do every once in a while.
Most of the time people get mad and just undock a carrier or dread or something instead of cynoing something because you killed them in their home system.
One of my favorites was baiting this one guy that rages all the time about unfair fights in local when he likes to bring friends and falcon to engage solo people. Engaged one of my alts in a drake and we hot dropped black ops, t3s and bombers on him and his buddies lol...he was very mad, the tears were great :) http://youtu.be/yytbDZrw1jc |

Last night I had several carriers and dreads get hotdropped onto our small BC gang. They even sieged the dreads on me |

Fairly common in lowsec, had Nyxes dropped on me on multiple occasions and carriers are much more common than supercaps. Usually pretty predictable, especially the Triage hotdrops, so it's easy to get a counter in place beforehand if you have the resources available.
Also, never get in scram range of NPC corp Mallers. |

Couple of weeks ago, we were bridged in on 3 times in 3 days..... think we lost 5 or 6 ships between the three, but there were only 8-10 of us each night. Reactivated in response to the change in direction.....-á |

Last time I did a roam in LowSec we were hotdropped by a 1 Super, 3 carriers 2 dreads and a crapload of other mixed shiptypes. All for a little BC gang of 9 people. The only thing missing was a Titan and a kitchen sink...
So...often enough I guess.

With scouts and local, it's pretty much the only way to get fights in some places. So yes, it's pretty common. Game mechanics require them sadly. People have a tendency of running when they see an enemy fleet approaching 3 jumps away.
Although, dropping supercapitals on a gang of 10 subcaps is pretty lame. |

Removing local would help a lot, removing non-BO cyno in low sec would lead to a LOT more fights, and a real job for scouts.

Or you could ship up with a smaller force with superior fleet comp that people are willing to engage, and get a frequent fights. Titan bridging/hot dropping on people might be the only way to get fights with a massively superior force, but if people think they can take you or at least get a decent fight being scouted doesn't matter, they'll come after you. People don't engage in fights they think they are going to lose - hotdropping is one way around that, but it is far from the only one. |

You where in NC for years. Which means you may not have seen much but if you where a Cap pilot you where part of many. Hotdrops are common and have been for years now. Hell hot dopping titans was fotm back when they where AOE DD when you could do drive-by DDs. |
