Im new to the EVE community, and Im looking towards PVE missions and some SOLO PVP.....
I have 2 races that get my attention so far, Amarr for the look of their ships, and Gallente for their drone potential, my question is...
for someone with little experience on this game, what would be the best race, ships etc for rolling SOLO?
I know race doesn't matter or faction or bloodline but I want to make sure im making the right choices and have fun while playing.
Thank you and I really appreciate your opinion. |

Racial traits are purely comestic and only affect your starting skills. But personally go gallente ships since they're more flexible and is current CCP's FoTM ships. Gallente main drones alot which other racial ships use. Gallente can also armor and shield tank due to their slot layout. They also use hybrids which caldari also u use. Compared to amarr it's laser which is exclusive to them and they're all armor tanked so most caldari ships are out of reach but they also do drones like gallente.

eve is a team sport.
best advice for learning solo would be to learn smallgang because
1) thats what you will be fighting and
2) you will learn several orders of magnitude faster with a group of vets with years of experience to draw from.

You can learn PvP solo and become good at it in this game.
However it is rarely done. Most pilots learn how to PvP first with other pilots. Then when they get a better understanding of the game move to more solo stuff.
If you want to learn PvP solo be prepared to loose a hundred or more ships before getting your first win.

That link is to the eveiseasy youtube channel. It's a video of an experienced vet on a days old character pwning years old characters. I show that you demonstrate that it's about what you know and not your skill points. I linked this because many new players to this game come here with dreams of pwning in solo PvP in short order like they do in other games and then when they can't they blame it on the skill points. It's not the skill points it's the eve learning curve. |

I exclusively use Amarr ships. I run missions in systems with Sanshas and Blood Raiders rats, so Amarr ships, in general, are well suited. Amarr ships, particularly the energy turrets, are also good against rogue drones.
In regards to missions, I have occasionally been given Angels, Gallente and Minmatar and handle those just fine. I don't kill as fast as I do against Sanshas or Blood Raiders, but my armor holds and I can knock out BS without a problem.
I have not faced Guristas at all...
With regards to drones, I only use light drones (varies based on the NPCs I am fighting) to knock out frigates and destroyers when they get too close.

As said, I suggest you get social and make some friends. Maybe through a corp or just in a chat channel as a community.
That way, you dont have to invent the wheel again. You can ask questions, get opinions etc And maybe even fight amongst them at first before you branch out into the solo part.

Both Amarr and Gallente ship lines have effective drone boats. The Amarr drone ships are extremely effective pvp ships, the Prophecy and Armageddon in particular are very powerful because, when buffer tanked aren't reliant on energy for their damage or for their tank, they have very high effective hit points and are well suited to energy neutralization if not actually bonused to it. They also don't require crap for skills to be effective either.
I trained my alt to fly that kind of stuff and it was thoroughly murderous by the time it had Amarr BS 4, T2 heavy drones and T2 heavy missiles. They're perfect PVP ships for players without much experience because they're incredibly tough and don't require you to do much other than to hit approach, launch drones and turn your modules on. It's a lot more forgiving than.active tanked or kiting setups where you have to carefully manage your tank and cap use or range. |

EVE is basically rock, paper, scissors, lasers, drones, missiles, kiting, brawling, ewar...etc etc.
Every ship (and race) has it's own niche with strengths and weaknesses. There is no "best' in EVE - just "best" for the situation at hand. This is what makes solo pvp very hard for new (and old) players. You have to understand what you are capable of, and what your enemy is capable of. The good news is you can pick whatever race appeals to you to begin with. You just need to learn the strengths and weaknesses of your ship so you can best exploit them. And once you are comfortable with that (or decide you don't like that particular ship/race) you can cross-train into something else with a different purpose.
As Ralph said, the best way to learn solo pvp is to find a group that does small gang pvp and learn by flying with them. Very rarely will you find absolutely solo fights, but if you have a good understanding of the way small gang fights work you can manufacture 1v1 situations anyway by stretching out a fleet to catch stragglers or taking advantage of weapon timers/polarizatyion to split them over a gate or wormhole. Just talking with other players about their fits and tactics will improve your own fitting and flying exponentially in the beginning.
This will also give you a forum for feedback when you take your first steps into solo PVP (which should be early! there's no reason to wait). There will be a lot of losses to start with and it's important to learn something from each one. Having experienced players around to help you pick apart what happened is invaluable. And really just makes the game more enjoyable.
Solo PVP is the hardest part of EVE, but it's also the most rewarding. My most treasured moments in EVE are all unexpected feats that I pulled off solo or with a very small gang. Just always remember - just because you are solo doesn't mean your enemy is.
Have fun and don't get discouraged. You're starting EVE hard-mode and half the battle is game knowledge. It will get easier (but only slightly - solo pvp is always an uphill battle )

Check out the Astero and the Stratios. Both are fantastic ships (kind of expensive) but they have the Amarr/Gallente command skills you would be going for.
Both can be setup to be like solo hunter-killer kinds of fits too.
And if you're new, the barrier for things like covert ops cloaking is significantly less SP wise, just gotta buy those expensive hulls. Great probing bonuses too.
Make sure you are comfortable with the mechanics and the basics before rolling out in ships like that. You are specifically hunting for easier and softer targets (at least that's what I do)
Solo is very rewarding, good luck and welcome to New Eden

Hey mate, and welcome to EVE!
I am a a PvP and PvE pilot, and I do Solo, Small Gang, and Fleet PvP, and there are massive differences between all 3, while you can Solo PvP with a young character in FW in a Frigate, and this is by far the most efficient and cheapest way to learn, you will be lacking the in the actual skill of piloting and the finer points of piloting, something with no amount of SP can fix, fly with some Fleets first, learn the basics, then fly with Small Gang, then try out Solo when you have more of an idea how to command your ship, if you want to learn, and are in an odd TZ like I am, don't feel like joining a Corporation yet, or some other reason, join the in game channel "Spectre Fleet" we do public roams very often, there is also "Redemption Road" who I have heard great things about, and there are some others but I can't remember the names.. Either way, good luck, and remember, fly how you want, fly for fun, forget the killboards, and enjoy yourself!
