The other night looking at a belt positively swarmed by Secure Containers all over the place I got to thinking how nice it would be to do the universe a favor and clear some of them out.
It has been a long while since I looked into popping sec cans and back then, while theoretically possible, they had so damn many hit points (I think I remember 10 million being tossed about) that it just wasn't worth the effort.
But today things have changed with cap ships and better all around DPS dealers in the game. So, with a few carriers and/or dreads and/or whatever loaded for max damage can I have a reasonable go at a sec can and expect it to pop in my lifetime?
As an aside does attacking sec cans get you an aggro timer from the owner? Would CONCORD come for you in hi sec (I know cap ships can't go there...just asking)?

Yes on the aggro timer, and yes on Concord, and yes, it does take a looooong time. Why there should be a breathalyzer to login to Eve:

I popped a medium sec can on Sisi the other day in a Myrm (of all things) with a full rack of neut blasters (and crap gun skills, time for a new mirror!) in ~5 minutes.
Takes a fair chunk of sec status, though.

Why are Secure cans so damn...well...secure?
Isn't it enough that they have a bajillion hit points? Would it be so bad if peeps could take shots at them? Do we really need a sec status hit and CONCORD protection of these things?
If we don't do anything I fear their combined mass will form a black hole and suck all of EVE down with it! The only thing more ubiquitous than sec cans at this point are the mountains of AOL trial disks out there.

WTB: 1600mm Rolled Secure Can Plate. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
