Dear CCP
What bugs me is the shadow that my ship sometimes casts on a station. It's huge! It shouldn't be. It looks fake.
I know there's a problem in rendering the size of the stations to ships in their actual (relative) sizes.
You worked out that difference on the gates by providing a new animation. Ships now don't get that close, and you don't see them bouncing off the gate anymore.
So how about an animation, that once a ship has been cleared for docking, the ship is shown just outside the docking bay and then entering it, and then, viola!, you're in your hanger. Something similar could be done as a ship leaves. (Wow, what a problem at Jita!)
Some people may not like it, maybe some would. But that's true with everything in EVE.
It would make things a bit more real. Think about it.
Thanks.

Please look up Field of view controls. Also look up how shadows work. |

Wow, the animation on leaving the station is what I was thinking about. I did not know that. Thanks.
Now, on flying in from a gate to dock at the station. I don't see anything new.
Upon leaving the station, I can turn around and re-enter the dock, but just as I get past the curtain the ship gets jammed up. I am still able to leave the dock once again.
So, I'll still look for a new views to enter the station.
I did not know about the 1st person view!
thanks again,

Glad that you found a solution with a helpful soul.
Going back to the original request there are many things in EvE that are not displayed in actual relative terms. Try having some friends sit side by side in space in a frigate and a battleship, look at the difference you see there and this more accurate representation of the size difference. Ship Sizes
I am not sure of the technical reasons why or even if there are any, perhaps it is all about keeping things easily visible on screen, either way there are a great many things that are not shown to scale in the game. |

Navy ships till bounces like crazy on the gates.
However, something like this from Mass Effect 2 for docking / undocking would be pretty sexy in my opinion.
(With a choice to disable it under options of course for pvp'ers) |

I think the whole concept of ships docking in stations is stupid. I mean a frigate should technically be a capital sized hull, it's not a little millenium falcon that can land in a hangar bay or something. Ships should have to dock outside stations, except for shuttles which shouldn't be anywhere near the size of frigates, they should be small enough to dock inside a frigate. I think a lot of issues in this game are a result of messed up ship scaling and the concept of 'subcaps' not being cap ships.
Oh god.

Incorrect... the scale is absolute but your perspective is weighted to the playership thanks to camerafu.
To simplify it just take the size of a window and compare it to the size of another ships window. As far as art assets are concerned all EVE windows are 1 standard building story in height. It's actually kinda cool to have that absolute limiter across everything(including stations) but its also a huge expression of skill from the art team(and in general.. cool). |

We will have to agree to disagree but.
Dominix versus Incurses based on volume since these in a relative way are close in shape. Domi 454,500 m3 (4,892,197.3 sq ft) Incurses 29,500 m3 (317,535.4 sq ft) If the displayed length of the Domi on screen was 127mm (5") the Incures would be 8.38mm (0.33") long.
Fed Navy Comet versus Megatron based on lenght numbers posted around teh web. Comet 64 meters (210') Megathron 1017 meters (3,336.6') If the displayed length of the Megathron on screen was 127mm (5") the Comet would be 7.87mm (0.31") long.
I will allow those who care to look at the ships online and decide for themselves if things are scaled properly on our screens. |
