We stand upon the edge of a long drop. The whisper in the wind speaks of a gathering storm; war may soon be upon us.
I am speaking of the war in the south, of the war that began with the IAC declaration at the Caldari Alliance Tournament against ISS. An incident which has since escalated into a massive conflict that now looks ever more likely to embroil the Providence region.
I have come to tell our side, to lay down the fact of what we have done and why we have done it. Some have said we abandoned our honour, others say we have meddled in matters that are none of our concern. Some say we have become power mongers seeking to expand our territory. I reply the only way I can, by explaining our motivation.
Some months ago, Unity Station came under attack from a powerful Pirate coalition. I believe that such a level of pirate co-operation for such an extended time is near unknown in the history of the capsuleer community, perhaps unique. The battle for Unity Station was long and it was brutal. During the war, ISS joined our other neighbours in aiding our defence. Many will tell you that they did it out of their own interests, to sa***uard their nearby investments, that they did not truly care about the Ushra'Khan or our home.
I tell you that does not matter to us, true or false. What matters to us, is simply that they came. We fought side by side, win or lose, and fought until Unity was once again safe. We knew then that we were in their debt. When we needed them most, they were right there with us.
When IAC declared war we could not refuse our support. This conflict may not be about slaves or about the Matari people, but for us at least, it is about holding true to your obligations. As we fight the Amarr out of obligation to our people, we have stood by ISS out of obligation to their friendship. Our honour does not only demand that we fight for our people, but that we fight for those who fought for us.
To turn our backs on them would be to turn our backs on our self-respect, something we could not do. And so we went to war. It was our hope that the war would be short, that a truce might be struck, but we knew the risk of casting our lot in such a large and volatile conflict.
Since then, the tide of battle has swung, first one way, then the other. At this time war has swung against ISS, and for our part, perhaps soon against us directly. Some might say that we were foolish to think we would not have to pay a price, in truth we knew what the price could be. We did not go into this for glory or reward - we do not fight the Amarr for glory or reward - we did it because it was right, because it was something we had to do, even when standing by would have been easy.
Some now want their pound of flesh. We raised arms against them and must be punished, even broken. They believe that they can take our home and cast us out. Perhaps they can, perhaps not. They believe we will be crushed, that we will be broken, that we will be torn down and reduced to nothing.
They are wrong.

They are wrong because they do not understand us. They do not understand why we act, or why we exist. We are not our territory. We are not our Starbases. Unity station is not UNITY, we are. Unity station is our home; it is our symbol, a beacon to the galaxy that we stand for freedom and struggle. But it is not us. It is a place, a thing of metal. Should Unity Station fall, it will be a black day, but the next day the sun will rise again and we will continue.
Our home can be taken from us, our ships can be destroyed. Our pods can be broken open, our bodies heaped high. But we will rise again each time, we shall rise to our feet and go on. We have done it before, against the Golden Fleet, against those who tried to take our home from us the last time. To be knocked from your feet holds no shame, to lie face down in the dirt and not rise again is to be defeated. No matter what comes, win or lose, we will continue, never defeated.
Before the storm breaks, before the world loses what is left of its perspective in our small corner of it, I come before you all today and state our cause.
We are the Ushra'khan, we come for our people, we came for our friends, and we stand by our word. No matter what the future holds, we shall go on.

Woe to any who can only measure their strength by the territory that they hold. It is good to know that Ushra'Khan's strength comes from conviction, not from its possessions. I salute you all.
Having said that, I hope you hold onto what you have, if only to deny possession of it to your enemies. _

We are however under no pretences about the scale of the threat that rapidally approaches us yet again.
Ugleb speaks the truth, our way, the Matari way is not to lay foundations, but to move as the spirits guide us through earth and heaven. We have fought for years before we built Unity, we will fight until the last of our kin is free. Until the day when the Amarrians are finally free from the oppressive regeime you puppets enforce is but shadows and dust, and all that stands is shastal a a warning to the future to beware should such a regeime rise again, when we finally cast your broken body into the abyss and the darkness takes you. The longer you are bound by your obligations and the resulting fallout the better for the Empire. Keep fighting for whatever you are fighting there - it has certainly made the Throne Worlds a safer place.

Odd that Star Fraction would condone the actions of this paramilitary group, since they have begun a random crusade against such groups.

Ushra'Khan aren't nationalists, and are thus unlikely to find themselves under the guns of that "random" crusade. If you really must try and score points off the Fraction, this is probably not the thread to do it in anyway.

Edited by: Ottom Ephesianos on 20/01/2007 07:39:58 Luck?! Luck has nothing to do with it. I am forced to agree with much that Ugleb has to say here. Political twists and pirates have slowed the road to freedom. I remember my first days in the fleet. Listening day in and day out to the sirens of the docking bay as capital ships poured in and shipped off fighting for the safety of Unity Station. ISS heard those same sirens, and noticed them droning on just a bit longer than they should and they came to our aid.
Now the same is happening to the ISS and I am in full support of helping them silence their horns of war and let the quietude of peace settle in their systems. From the Northern reaches of Placid down to Unity Station and farther the ISS has maintained a stolid reputation and always stood as a fair, just alliance. In truth when they came to aid the Ushra'Khan I was taken aback when they came in force. In most cases a support fleet will consist of nothing more than enough to expect reparations. The ISS pulled no punches in their support of Unity Station. I am alarmed and dissapointed in the intities, the powers that be; looking to take advantage of the well deserved leave time for the pilots and warriors who helped clear Unity Station of agressors.
Yes, it is true, to be in the Ushra'Khan is to accept the constant shadow of the Amarr Empire. And we have accepted this as our fate, our responsibility to our people, to our home. We do not thrust our struggle onto anyone else but those that feel the need for justice. To have to deal with thoughtless pirates, vultures!? The pride behind the craft of such a profession has been lost...
The twisting tongues of politicians and the empty hulls of lying pirates will not close our eyes to the truth and right to freedom. We will thank ISS for their concerns by cannon fire and see to it they last as an ally and peaceful neighbor. And when those regions are secure we'll continue to thank the Amarr Empire for slavery in a completely different manor.

Well said Brother. That is the simple truth of it and the truth is a wonderful thing. The ISS fought by our side in our darkest hour. Now it is they that face the shadow of conquest, what else would we do but stand by them now.
The odds are vastly stacked against us I'll admit. Just because it doesn't look like you can win, it doesn't mean you shouldn't fight. Especially when it is the right and honourable thing to do.
We are Ushra'Khan, that is something no fleet of dreads, no swarm of frigates can change.

UK have brought all of these troubles upon themselves. If you had aided ISS in the defence of their territory everyone would have sat back, applauded and said you have done the right thing. But like all terrorists you went one step too far, and assisted in attacking IAC directly in their space and helping to take their station. THIS was your mistake, I doubt any would have marked you out for your actions if you assisted ISS purely defensivly, but by joining in offensivly you have none to blame for the after effects but yourselves.

Well said my friend. What UK did was simultaneously an act of greed, cowardess and ultimate hypocrisy. I, for one, admired the The Enslaver's wonderfully ornate, if somewhat unpragmatic Avatar. But what was more interesting to my Caldari mind was the power it held on the feeble minds of the UK who were mingling with it and assisting it in its protection.
The Avatar is truely a masterpiece, so much so that it swayed the goals and ideals of UK and enslaved them for its cause.
Amarr victor!
