Part 1. Athra.
In the beginning was the Word.
The Amarr wrote the Word down.
This was called "The Scriptures".
On Amarr island, the people of Amarr lived in a number of small city-states and independent small settlements. The first Amarr Emperor, Amash-Akura, united the island of Amarr, and proclaimed himself Emperor. Some events occurred during this time, such as the visit of the Sefrim, and the rebellion of Molok the Deceiver, who disputed Amash-Akura's right to rule. The Emperor defeated Molok, and the Empire prospered for a time.
Then the Udorians arrived.
The Udorians had also written down a Word, but it was a different word, one that was Unrighteous. This state of affairs could not be maintained, and eventually the Amarr went to war against the Udorians.
This was called "The Reclaiming".
The Amarr were aided by some of the Khanid tribes, who had met the Udorians, and had disliked the Udorian Word. There were also some other Khanid tribes who had not encountered the Word at all, and those Khanid had to be conquered and taught the Word.
Around this time was the first outbreak of Sani Sabik belief, whose followers believed that the Word should be written in red ink, or, preferably, the blood of sinners. The Emperor disagreed, and crushed the Sani Sabik.
Eventually, the Amarr and their Khanid allies conquered the Udorians, changed the spelling of the Udorian Word so that it was Righteous, and then eventually conquered the rest of the planet Athra, which they later renamed Amarr Prime.
Part 2. Space.
Following the conquest of the whole planet of Amarr Prime, the Empire began exploring space. Landing on several planets in the Amarr system, there were great discoveries made, that expanded the Empire's knowledge greatly, in all manner of scientific fields.
Eventually, the Amarr discovered a stargate on the outskirts of the system, and through careful study of the stargate, the principles of interstellar travelling were discovered. A gate constructor ship was sent to the closest system, and built the first new stargate that had been seen for thousands of years. This ushered in a new Age of Expansion for the Empire.
This era of Space Travel, also caused the outbreak of several religions, including a resurgent Sani Sabik, who once more believed that the Word should be written in red ink, or blood. The Empire fought them, and some of them fled the Empire to parts that were then unknown, but later turned out to be the Araz constellation, forming the Takmahl Empire.
The other religion that was problematic, was the Equilibrium of Mankind. These omnicidal maniacs believed that the Word should be written in black ink, on black paper, in bold type, and with an Exclamation Mark. This frankly ludicrous suggestion was swiftly rejected by the Empire, and a short war was fought, which dispersed the EoM.
Around this time, is alleged to have been the so-called Mad Emperor, who was rumoured to have decreed that the Word should be replaced by his own Name. Again, the Empire rejected such ludicrous suggestions, and the Mad Emperor was defeated, and defeated so hard, that nobody now knows what his name might have been. So much for him.
Continued expansion of the Amarr Empire led to the discovery of the Ealurians, on the planet Ealur. This was profoundly theologically important, and led to the announcement of a new Reclaiming, which was to Reclaim all of Space. Because the Ealurians were so primitive, they were not able to understand the Word, or how to pronounce it, and so were enslaved, to educate them.
Later, during this Reclaiming of Space, the Ni-Kunni were found, and quickly understood the Word, and were thus not enslaved for very long.
Later still, the Minmatar were discovered, and found to have significant technology, which came as quite a surprise. The Minmatar were conquered and enslaved, after failing to properly pronounce the Word.
Some time later, the Khanid family seceded from the Empire, due to disagreements over how the Emperor should be selected. The ruler of the Khanid realms named himself King Khanid II, proclaimed that the Word should have an apostrophe in it, and that he was supreme overlord of the Khanid Kingdom. He also became a rather Rude person during this time, and generally behaved in ways that most conservative Amarr strongly disapproved of.
The Khanid Family was replaced by the Tash-Murkon Family in the Imperial Succession, the Tash-Murkons being descended from Udorians, who by this time had learned to pronounce the Word properly.
Eventually, the Empire came into contact with the other major powers of the time, the Gallente, the Caldari, and the Jovians.
Part 3. Interstellar interference.
These other powers, were not keen on the Word, and in the case of the Gallente, their strange accents meant that proper pronunciation was impossible. War threatened, although the Emperor of the time was cautious, and foresaw that war would only be ruinous for all involved.
The Jovians however, blasphemed, and wrote the Word upside down, which was a grave insult, and provoked the Amarr to declare war. This war did not go particularly well, and the Emperor called a ceasefire.
Around this time, the Gallente, by providing weaponry and training, caused the Minmatar to rebel, which caused a lot of damage and destruction in the Empire. The Emperor held back from obliterating the Minmatar, because he was a man of peace and compassion.
Eventually, the wars fizzled out, and a time of peace occurred. The scholars of Amarr used this time to contemplate the Word, and how it might be pronounced differently, to better convert the other races.
A few other events occurred, such as the Rise, Decline, and Fall of Sansha's Nation, and the formation of CONCORD, and the adoption of a new calendar.
Much later, the invention of the capsule, caused further dramatic change.

Question: What was the word they couldn't pronounce?
Exam answers: 1: Yes I believe they can because I don't trust the Amarr not to lie. 2: From what I know of him, nope. Never met the guy and I have my obvious reasons to not exactly love him. 3: They are better sculptors than the Amarr I guess? |

It's anemonemone. Amnemonemomne.
A figure central to Udorian religious texts that even we could never properly pronounce. The ineffable should never be easy to pronounce. |

I've just finished reading the three-tome Complete History of the Six Cities by Nehrzad of Udhaneh and if what it says is true, the ancient Udorians weren't able to pronounce quite a large number of words from the Proto-Amarrian, because their language, though related, simlpy lacked the appropriate phonemes.

Quite believable. Even some of modern languages have some weird sounds that humans weren't intended to produce. Look for example at gallentean language. It has this weird sound... I don't know how to say it better. Phbbbttt?... Ehh. It is just disgusting as gallentean language itself, so I think I won't be trying anymore. Or look at Jin-Mei language. Of course, it isn't as disgusting as gallentean, but it sounds funny, like they aren't speaking but have little bells in their throats. Ding-ding-ding-ding-ding.

I am told by some of the remaining serving staff that a housekeeper placed a cloth over Synthia's marvelous Last Gift to Silas, and not but five minutes later, a short in one of the giant golden beam LED arrays far overhead caused an electric arc which fried the poor woman on the spot. The statue is now cleaned exclusively from a distance with pressurized oil mist. The combination of friction, pressure, and oil has given it the most lovely burnish.
I have a holographic representation here...
Notice how the sculptor captures the floating quality of the nipples, as if the subject were captured at the climax of a great leap, preparing to bring the Sword of Righteousness down upon sundry riff and raff.
As I recall, you were quite moved by the statue when it was unveiled, Diana!

It's been so long since I've seen a spaceship, I've forgotten the model of the ship miniatures that you collect, Diana, darling. Was it the Vexor or the Exequror? Do you use any of those new fangled textured skins to enhance the pleasurable aesthetics?
It seems like the Nation thing has been dialed back. I should give Unity a whirl. I'm a big fan of utopias, lycanthropy, and the fusion of Amarrian and Caldari culture. Though I'm not really into "toasters," I think perhaps I might start up an appliance business along the "ship models with pleasurable aesthetics" line.... |
