After some thought, I like the way there are no aliens in the game, because if they were they would automatically be the enemy. There is no "other", there is only us, and we fight among ourselves.

Aliens would be good, i am never against more content. Really, i would say most people who are playing eve like starwars, startrek, and others like them and enjoy the thought of aliens and other races. they dont have to be a playable faction. to have 5000 systems, no telling how many planets, certainly we can fit in a few alien races.
if not i like the idea of a worm hole to another area of space that has aliens in it.

One idea occurs to me, has any real detail on the Jovian's enemies been given? IIRC pretty much none exists. Perhaps the Jovian's enemies are in fact aliens, and part of the Jovian's secretive dealings involves trying to fight off these enemies, whether through direct conflict or through attempting to manipulate events within the 4 empires. Perhaps if the Jovians successfully thwart their attempts to control Eve through manipulation for too long they will show their hand and invade outright.
Not sure how well it would all fit, but it would certainly be interesting.

Originally by: Ephemeron Looking from EVE setting point of view, there is no room for big mighty aliens in our galaxy. If there were space traveling aliens, they would have to come from another galaxy. And if they are capable of intergalactic travel, they would be a little more technologically advanced than humanity of EVE. More advanced than the Jovians.
Not entirely true. New Eden, as we know it now, is not a galaxy. Its IN a galaxy, but its not a WHOLE galaxy.
For example, galaxies have somewhere in the region of many billions of stars- New Eden so far has 100 or so. Secondly, CCP have stated before that they feel quite free and happy to add new chunks to the map as and when they feel like it, should they need new space.
The limits of EVE at the moment are the distance humans have explored from the EVE Gate, and how far they've built stargates. At any point they like, they can explore a little further and build new stargates, thus exploring more of the galaxy.
Now, theres no reason why, in our future "expansions" as a species, we won't come accross an alien race of any level of technology, from intergalactic gods to savage animals of the chest-bursting variety.
IMO, though, EVE doesn't need aliens for a long long time, and it could ruin the atmosphere. We've already got the barely-human Jove and animal-like rogue drones to fill out, plot wise, yet. Personally I want to see the rogue drones exploited a bit more.
Anyhow, aliens in SF is such a cliche

Definitely, when you warp somewhere, if you don't make it in one jump, you come out of warp in an area with no stars and lots of octagonal purple ships firing at you :) that would be awesome, oh and have the deadspace music start playing, bring the word dead back to deadspace :D

This game ahs no real need of aliens. There's plenty of stuff init the devs could make something out of. Jove and Rogue Drones alone could fill that hole easily - if done right.

Part of EvE's charm is that it's entirely made up of humans.
Radically different from each other, different from each other in minor ways due to long seperation perhaps, but still humans. No aliens please, it would ruin that charm. Sigs are for noobs. |

I would like to see MONSTERS.
Giant Space Whales or whatever, where you need a special high slot item to attack them successfully with. (naturally a harpoon shaped missile, with lines attached that you use to drag them around) I can hear the Yarrrrs! now.
A wormhole oppening up in Jita, spewing out hundreds of these ravenous metal eating leviathans. Impervious to all but the very latest and specialized weapon.
Naturally they are attracted to any kind of weapons fire, and are attracted to any system that has an excessive amount or warp drive activity.
Oh well, one can dream. |

I want aliens too. Especially sexy buxom cat-people, or shape-changer nymphos. Hubba hubba.
Oh, you mean in the game. Ah no, I don't care about that. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

But it is! Don't forget that everything in EVE is canon, meaning that for the past three years, and ten months, we've seen the fall of many, many empires, stories of corruption and betrayal, and lots of other things. The best part is, everything that has happened was caused by the players. Not a pre-determined script.

That storyline is good.
But the dev-driven backstory is getting to be nonexistant. I'd be fine if CCP simply admitted that there was no real non-player backstory and just got over with it .

Originally by: Claude Leon No, aliens but I do agree with more traffic. It would add to the atmosphere of the game.
And the lag.
As for the OP, I don't feel the same need for aliens. I agree that the existing NPC "critters" - the Jove and rogue drones in particular - could be developed both in and out of game more, although the kind of changes you're looking for sound to me more like an RPG experience as opposed to an MMORPG... Don't get me wrong, I could definitely play such a story-based game, but that's not what EVE is meant to be. I'd rather see developer effort put into more player-based content.

EVE is a game based on human interaction. Whether you like it or not EVE ends up bringing up all sorts of different human emotions and actions, it's a PVP game where all factions are the result of player-made societies; all conflict is the result of people acting upon their needs and desires. Putting in Aliens would cause an alienation from this into a "common enemy" mentality common with other MMORPGs, regardless if the Aliens are evil or neutral. We do not need artificially created groups, let the social interactions between players create such content.
Aliens suck as well.

Hmm....imagine there actually was an Aliens MMO.
It'd be an MMO where it would be cool to fly a mining ship. You'd still get gank though, only this time, from the inside.

Anyone thin ANTARANs from MOO II would be nice?
Especially their 'explode like the mother of all smartbombs if killed' effect. *nasty grin*
And then there are the aliens from Sheri S. Tepper's worlds, or C.J. Cherry's foreigner series.. allmost human.. but the small detail makes contact very.. dangerous.
Of course, having a giant space amobea warp into your fleet and eat it is anoher encounter *evil grin*

I dunno, if done right, an alien invasion could be a good addition for EvE. Albeit sometime in the not so near future, as they need to fix my drones first. :P
Say in a newly opened region (out on BoB's side of the cluster), on the very edges, a rare alien ship would spawn, leaving only "Strange Alien Remains". Make it a mission somewhere. Then, as rumors spread and patches are applied, you have the aliens slowly grow in number. They would take over the whole region with giant alien ships, including one as big as a titan. They would claim sovereignty of a nearby star system if alien POS's weren't destroyed once a week or something. They would start expanding into BOB space and everyone would laugh as BoB got pwned by aliens.
But then they would slowly creep toward empire, and as more patches are applied, missions would start appearing to go to alien-controlled space and take out targets to stop their approach. However, destroy too many targets, and the alien titan might jump in. Let the devs pilot the Titan and control the spawns, and really give all these uber PVPers something that fights back.
Alien loot would be able to be researched into new kinds of weapons and ammunition. Archeology and Alien Analysis skills could be trained.
Something like that would be really cool for EvE, and could be an excellent way to expand the storyline, and get lots of players involved. ___________________________________________________ "I'm an engineer, not a miracle worker!" - Scotty, Star Trek: The Original Series |
