This week I did two level four missions in my Battleship Dominix. I hate missions. I do not do them much at all in past. Last time I did was year ago. But I want someday to finish Gallente Epic Arc so I thought to try out and start from basic level four to "warm up". I am not sure why I trained my skills for Battleship and its related skills even, but I suspect that it is because I already have maxed out skills to do what I enjoy in EVE. Exploration. First mission went well. I sit around 90KM away from every NPC spinning around my Mobile Tractor Unit at 2000m salvaging wrecks with my three Salvager IIs strapped on Domi high slots. As the Unit pulled wrecks closer I watched how "speed increased" Heavy Ogres ripped apart every NPC on grid. After cup of coffee and energy drink to stay awake I completed mission. Agent was greateful as always and rewarded me with some ISK and offered me another exciting mission. I accepted.
As I undocked and started to glide slowly towards next mission pocket, my head was in all out war. "Why are you doing this?", "You make more ISK in cheetah than 300 million BS!", "I guess its not all bad, I cant shoot things in cheetah.", "High sec sucks!", "At least none is chasing you!", "I am so done after this mission!". Then I landed inside mission pocket. I alone... again... with NPCs. At this point I knew that there is no way I am going to continue doing this. Thoughts of even paying some guy ISK to truck me though Epic Arc came to my mind. Once again no real drone managment needed I sent my Ogres away after lights and mediums ate all small NPCs while I was orbiting MTU. Suddenly D-Scan shows Ishkur approaching and that rose my brow. There he was spinning all around my Domi, shooting my MTU and single wreck (as others were salvaged while waiting). I scooped up my MTU and its loot and Micro jumped 100KM towards NPCs. Since there was only three battleships left, jumping right on top of them helped me loot and salvage without MTU. Ishkur didnt follow and warped away. At that moment I realized how much I miss these unpredictable events that happend to me in Low and Null. All those close calls, few deaths and very unlucky mess up with cloak in bubble-gate. I sold Dominix after that mission and jumped into my Bumble Bee.
With synthetic coffee in my cargo hold I felt so happy to finally reach low sec system. It was small gatecamp with armor logi repping mining barge that was attacked by drones of same logi? As I did not see other ships at gate except wrecks of capsuleer cruisers and industrials. Logis friends were waiting on the other side of the gate so I decided to stick around sneaking and lurking in my cov-ops to see perhaps more fireworks. Time passed and nothing happened so I continued to do what I enjoy doing the most. Exploring sites and planting inspace Bookmark to every system in EVE. One region at the time.
- I used Domi with Ogres because I have better skills in them than Sentries and with T2 rig and modules I increased their speed to levels that heavies were farely fast to fly 90-100KM distance. - Despite what I read on forums, I had no problems with NPCs shooting drones as light and mediums killed all that could harm Ogres so fast that no recalls needed or "getting aggro on BS". But two missions is hardly a fact so I am probably wrong. Just writing my own experience during those two missions. Missions were Evolution (Storyline) and Pirate Invasion. - I know it seems that after first mission I get some random guy in mission area shooting stuff is quite frequent "random" event specially since I only did two missions. But few years ago I was one of "newish" players that thought to go Battleship - lvl4 route. Once I did get in and started to do missions I did not encounter a single griefer, janitor or ganker. Iv done a lot of lvl4s in my youth. So overall if I look on my whole history of doing missions this was first time ever. - I went though Genesis low sec route to Solitude to finish my Solitude exploring. - I had Gallente Epic Arc for two years or so I think. I can finish it, I want to finish it since I am Gallente! But maybe some other time. - English isnt my native language so I am very sorry if something I wrote feels like petting cat made of sand paper.
EVE players are like this huge fat sleeping Grizzly Bear that CCP pokes with very long stick to see how one reacts. If bear continues to sleep, its in the next patch. If bear wakes up, changes are needed. But if stick pokes too hard... that bear goes berserk and rips everything apart! . |
