Have an idea for VR for a feature for special parts of Legion, but since VR headsets won't work with walking it would require something like that there are thrusters attached along your lower arms and the legs, so that you hover just above the ground and move using the thrusters.
The thrusters would work in all directions, but would always keep you a minimum distance above the ground without requiring any input from you, keeping your balance with a gyroscope. That's why it requires no walking either in or outside of the game.
Using the thrusters to move directionally, moving both controllers move you forwards or backwards as you activate all thrusters, moving one of them forward or backwards activates one thruster and moves you forward or backwards while turning, and moving one controller forward and the other one backwards turns you at the spot,as the thrusters work opposite. Moving one or both controllers to the right side moves you to the left side and moving them to your left side left side moves you to the right.
Moving vertically it would be reasonable to move the controllers downwards as you get a boost lifting you higher off the ground. To decend faster the controllers could be moved up to make the thrusters push upwards and make you go downwards.
The meaning is that you would use the same movements as the movements that would logically control these thrusters if you actually had them on,hopefully making it intuitive. The most logical would be that the controllers are held in the opposite direction of the direction you want to move, as arms are stretched out to best withstand the force that the thrusters make.
The thrusters on the arms however should be bidirectional as there are times where you need forward movement while aiming for example, then they push backwards from the elbows (in this position I think one could withstand the force, even if arms aren't stretched out). But other times you need to get backwards fast and since you have to reach forwards to withstand the power, the thrusters have to be able to push forwards as well.
The thrusters attached to the legs would mainly be for keeping you hovering above the ground,as they aren't controllable. But the in game character would lean in the direction of the movement.
Pressing the buttons on the controllers could fire weapons, control equipment and activate the thrusters.
For Legion areas this kind of equipment would seem reasonable where the ground is hot or not very solid, like water rich places. Plus it would making moving around in areas much faster. Maybe this idea could work separately in some kind of more arena based places too.
VR would work when using vehicles in Legion too. Even though you are inside the vehicle, cameras on the outside project the environment to you so that you actually don't see the vehicle itself but have full visibility of the surrounding environment by looking around you.
Plus, It would give Oculus and Playstation vr owners even more experiences in eve.

Are you thinking about aiming? If so there could be an aiming mode, activated if possible by lining up the controllers in a line in front of the headset, roughly where you would hold a weapon, where you automatically get the aiming view that is usual in fps.
When the aiming mode is activated, the vr headset overrides the controller movements and the aiming view appears in the centre of the view. You only need to press the button to shoot, as you do the aiming with the headset with the weapon following your view. You can still go forward using the thrusters when in this mode by pressing the other controller. Moving the controllers down the headset and controllers works independently again, the aiming view disappears and you can control the thrusters with the controllers and freely look around, no matter which way you use the thrusters.
Since you're hovering, the vision would be completely stable with no wobbling and smooth movements in all directions.
These are VERY experimental ideas of course, but want to put them out there instead of just having them on a notepad

Have changed the opening post, as I really misunderstood the first time around how the oculus touch actually work. However, I agree vr isn't likely meaningful in a fps if it doesn't give an advantage playability wise. With Valkyrie it seems to give that advantage, which probably is why it works so well there. |

Interesting ideas, and they are always welcome, but this new game is not VR focused. (unless things change)
I'd love to experience the next version of Dust in some sort of VR setting, but it would be uncharted territory, as there aren't really any good examples of other games that do the FPS experience well with this new technology.
If CCP did decide to pursue an FPS VR experience, they would have a long hard climb ahead of them.
Also, for the love of all that is holy, there is no such thing as Legion!
"Not Dust" "Dust PC" "EVE: FPS"

Either need to make a 3rd person isometric view point or sitting/standing cockpit view. First person VR with lots of motion is going to make a lot of people sick.
If CCP goes with an approach to always spawn you in a vehicle while VR is active, that may work. Boots on the ground solider is too dicey if you're not doing 1:1 full body VR tracking.

Yes, it seems movement without being in a vehicle or ship of some sort is uncomfortable. Spawning in a vehicle if you use a vr headset is actually a very good idea. Hope there is some way to make vr and not vr work cross platform.
Vr really gives both some possibilities as well as restrictions. |

Piloting a Dust dropship in VR would be bloody fantastic.
