That's right, Fanfest football(soccer!!) returns. This year we plan on doing it differently, but any suggestions or requests are absolutely welcome.
Pitch/Court
We deliberated this one quite a bit. Last year we had it full size, 11v11, and that was a lot of fun. It demanded quite a lot, however, especially when it came to fitness. It also meant that we had a lot of substitutes sitting on the bench at all times, waiting for their chance to play. This year we thought we'd change it up a little bit, and have this take place in our usual court at KR's(Reykjavik FC) indoor handball court. It's the perfect size for a 5-a-side game.
It's about a 15 minute walking distance from the CCP HQ, which makes it way more accessible than the place we booked last year. Remember the bus issues? I do. I'm sure there will be some carpooling as well.
The spectator seating is very limited. There is a broadcast booth above the court that would fit a couple dozen, and there are some telescopic bleachers. The bleachers do cut into the court itself, however, making the game area much smaller when pulled out. We will figure out more when we have a better idea of how many wish to come watch these shenanigans.
There will be locker rooms available for changing and showering.
Teams
"Devs vs Players" is so 2015, so this year we're aiming to have enough devs and players signed up to form 6-8 teams of mixed devs and players, and duke it out tournament style. Any suggestions regarding the tournament format are welcome.
The team organizing will come later once we have a better idea about how many are interested. I'm personally thinking a random draw, but efforts may need to be made to keep teams even.
Tops and boots - what you need to bring.
We won't be going all out with gear this year since there will be so many variations and teams. As such, we will be asking every player that signs up to bring two different colored tops, as many of each color as you like. When the teams have been formed, decisions can be made on colors, but each team will need a darker colored shirt and a white one.
Boots will need to be flat, as we'll be playing on indoor parquet flooring. There will be some vacant Astro-Turf courts outside, so if the weather is uncharacteristically gorgeous we might consider playing out there. If you have spare room and wish to bring cleats just in case, feel free!
Time
We have that court booked every Friday, so we figured we might as well keep things simple and play on the Friday, April 22nd. Starting at 11am, and continuing until the games are finished, our bodies are finished, or 3 o'clock. Whichever comes first. Keep in mind that the timing of this may conflict with other Fanfest programming, but we'll work something out.
Signup
Please confirm in a reply to this thread if you are willing and able to participate in a 5-a-side football/soccer game in an indoor arena, on Friday April 22nd between 11am and 2-3pm.
Summary
Indoor parquet floored arena in walking distance Bring your own tops Friday, April 22nd - 11am-?
That's all for now o7

CheesusCrust wrote:Sign me up, please. :) To help with team colors, I could bring some colored bibs. Got about 5 each in red, blue and green. If the tournament should be without eliminations, then I'd suggest a standard scorring table with 3-1-0 points for W-D-L. Thanks for hosting this! It will be a blast. o7
Yup, no elimination, just points. Every team plays each team at least once. Then top two can battle for title, and 3rd and 4th battle for 3rd. Something like that. It's fun having a final.
Also the US way of doing things is quite nice, where you do overtime. 2 pts for win and OT win, 1 pt for OT loss, and 0 for loss.

For the sake of transparency I want you all to know that the time isn't 100% decided on. As such, if you have any preferences now is the time to speak up.
Some were thinking Wednesday, before all the shenanigans begin.

Hey guys,
Just a quick update regarding the event. We are looking into what format to use for this event. One idea at this point in time, is to split the developers into groups of 2-3, making sure that we have a healthy balance of talent in each group. The amount of groups will depend on how many players sign up in total, this includes both developers and you lovely people.
The developers will then use some form of currency (yet to be decided) to buy players into their squad, with a total of 5 players in a squad. This should allow for some fun dynamics being added to this event, as well as some meta gaming, which I think we all enjoy immensely. The main benefit from doing this however, will be to keep the teams fairly even, giving everyone a fighting chance to be the best of the bunch.
That's about it from me, but I will monitor this thread and try and answer any questions you have, as well as any feedback about the proposed format.
CCP Puck will update this thread SoonGäó (I've always wanted to say that) with more information, as well as updating the sign up list. Finally, if you are worried that it is too late to sign up. Then you still have a chance to do so! |

Bairfhionn Isu wrote:Kinda serious question: Last year we had some alcohol restrictions because of the venue. I will not mention the trash bin full of beer cans... damn, now I did it mention it.
But how opposed are we to a beer or two? They are isotonic after all. Marathon runners drink it all the time! I know, it's early in the day.. but FANFEST. Vacation. And stuff!
(I swear, I will not come to the matches hammered. Just hungover and thirsty)
Hungover is fine.
Drunk or having had a drink that morning is not fine.
We do not want anyone getting hurt and want everyone to have a good time, without booze for a few hours

Hope it does not affect your fanfest too much, booze should numb the pain if it is sore.
