So the crucible patch when it first came out fixed the intel graphic card failure, however since the 1.0.2 patch it has caused this problem to happen again...
Problem: Jump gate / undock = Gfx card to fail and black screens and freezes then comes back. |

YES!!!! OMG I am having the same issue, I was so happy when Crucible fixed the problem, and I have had a headache all day since the 1.02 patch seems to have messed everything up again!!! Anyway, I sent a bug report, but I will post here my system specs. The game was running like a charm after Crucible, but now it's UGH again...

Well, they did say they were releasing a hotfix patch tomorrow that should fix various issues, including localized client issues... which I am knocking on wood, but I would say at this point I am not optimistic they are even aware of this issue (I hope I'm wrong, but it's one of those gut feelings.) Anyway, it did feel good to be back to EVE, but I may cancel my sub once again if they don't fix this, so let's see what happens after Downtime... Anyone want to place ISK bets as to whether the patch will address the issue? |

Wait, does that mean the graphics calculations are done on the CPU and its memory? Hum, that's not the best set up if you have an i3, and plan to game a lot. Expect it to be pretty slow to begin with and running it with those setting will only make it worse.
Anisotropic filtering should be disabled. Same for vertical sync which, i found, usually makes no visual differences, other than using your computer's ressources a lot. Since they updated the HDR resolutions of the space bg, you might want to turn it off as well. It will be ugly, but might help saving on the RAM's speed. Remember, your driver is located on the same memory as your graphics stuff, unlike a dedicated GPU card. If (it can even be for only a fraction of a seconds) when needed, your CPU don't have access to the driver loaded in memory (cause this one is used by another CPU core for graph calculations), it will be tagged as not responsive by windows and will force it to reload that driver. Of course in the mean time your driver is off, it also shuts down graphics calculations.
Drivers are needed for the whole programs to work with the hardware. If it goes down, it has to be reload, thus why the screen goes black (graphic driver and its underlying hardware is used to display anything on the screen).
Now, i'm not a programmer so i don't know what the dev could do to optimize the game to work on imbedded video chipsets so it doesn't crash or goes unresponsive, but trying to reduce the load of graphics by lowering the graphics should help if what i said is what's happenning. I might be wrong of course. I'm not a programmer. I just have a bit of study in computer support. |

I'm in the same boat. Crucible amazingly solved the issue that started around Incarna for me, only for it to return with the latest patch.
Usually, I play a youtube vid in the background so I can listen to some tunes while I play. Everytime I undock or use a stargate, the screen blacks out for a few seconds and the vid crashes. No matter how low I set my graphics setting, or how high, the issue persists. I'm not running EVE on any insane gaming computer, but I've played apparently more advanced games than this without issue.
Right now it's not a big deal. I'm mostly screwing around in high-sec for a while, but I dont want to risk being caught with my pants down in low/null-sec with this problem. |

I can only say I was happy with my embedded Intel GFX card with my laptop when Crucible came out but now with 1.0.2 patch that annoying GFX driver crashing (at least on my laptop with Windows 7) happens again.
CCP, please figure out what you changed in between Crucible 1.0.0 and 1.0.2 to bring that annoying bug/feature back. |

I will be the first to admit my computer isn't anything great for gaming. However, Crucible 1.0.0 fixed the problem completely, and the game was playable, and in fact it played beautifully with what I'd call "middle of the road" graphics settings. 1.0.2 brought the problem back, and the latest hotfix patch did NOT fix it. I'm pretty much deciding I'm not going to renew at the end of the month, as it's simply very disheartening to see this problem come back AFTER it is fixed. I will of course recheck these forums daily, and try any reasonable suggestions in an attempt to fix the problem, but so far none of have been successful. I hope CCP is at least aware of this, but like I said earlier, I doubt it. However, I would be thrilled to be proven wrong.
I of course also feel stupid for giving my friend the new 60 day free trial after I was going on and on about how awesome the latest expansion was (in part I was thrilled cause they fixed the problem), so I guess I was foolish to stick my neck out for CCP. |

I am currently trying to reproduce this issue in-house but I need your help.
I would like to ask you all to go in game on TQ and file a bug report by pressing F12 (look at the bottom for the 'Bug Report' button). Fill the report in with as much information as you can, it would also be extremely helpful if you could run logserver and attach the log file to the bug report next time you experience these issues.
You can find instructions on how to do this from: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Bug_reporting#Getting_a_logserver_log

Alright, I submitted the bug report as you instructed. Also, I submitted a bug report yesterday as well, the ID of which is 122980 which does have a clear screenshot of the issue. Also I ran logserver, and I jumped about 3 or 4 times and had the bug occur. I didn't know how to post the results of the logserver in my bug report, so if you can inform me as to how to do so, that would be excellent.
Also, I am glad I have been proven wrong and that the devs are working to resolve the issue. I really do want to help you get to the bottom of this! |

As the common theme seems to be that Crucible 1.0.2 is the problem, is it possible to load up an Eve client with Crucible 1.0.0 where the problem seemed to be fixed and run a logserver report under those conditions while gate jumping? maybe something different is happening when gate jumping between different versions? Just a hypothesis. Unfortunately, I don't have the means to run TQ in a previous version, so I can't test it myself. (Unless I do and I'm just not aware of it, in which case please explain how one could do that..) |

Just posted my bug report - Hopefully I did it right. I echo what was being said about the new patch - When Crucible was launched it was working perfect - Great graphics and everything. With the new update it went back to the old way of the graphic card recovering after each gatejump. I would assume something was changed with the new patch as well. Would love to have my old version back. |

God people like you are annoying. The game runs fine on the card at 60 fps on all high settings. What's the purpose of you coming in here knocking something you know nothing about? Yes the visuals are nice in this game but they aren't anything special or new. These onboard cards are more than capable of running most newer games just fine.
You don't have to pay 500 dollars for a graphics card to play a video game, despite popular belief. This is clearly a problem with the game, not the card.
Edit: Just to add, I also submitted a bug report as soon as I noticed this. It also appears to be happening when I first launch the game, not just when undocking/jumping. |

I'll say that Intel cards aren't the greatest, but I mean, it'll work, and if I could have frapsed the video of it running like a charm I would have. Anyway, I think that in Sassums post he likely means well, but I would just say ignore it as it is clear he doesn't know what he is talking about in this specific case. However, this is also a forum within an MMO and there are of course Trolls, so if it's not productive, just ignore it I'll say. (which is why I rarely post here)
Anyway, I will be logging on to EVE shortly and sending everyone who posted here with an issue a quick eve mail to please post to the bug report and follow the directions as described by CCP Vertex so we can get this the bottom of this and get back to playing the game. |

Just updated to the last driver version but the problem persists.. crashes on eve client start and on each dock/undock and jump (same happens in wormholes too), it seems something related to the space environment loading..

I'd love to use the ones Intel provides directly but due to some OEM-issues Windows insists on not installing other than OEM-stamped versions on the laptop (like with HP laptops). So we can only go with the OEM versions which drag a bit behind the latest. |

Max Warp wrote:CCP Vertex wrote:I am still looking into this issue and we have a few leads but one thing I would like to ask people to do is update your INTEL drivers. I noticed a few of you have out dated drivers, you can find the latest INTEL HD drivers from this link: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx?lang=engPlease reply to this thread if this resolves the issue for you. I'd love to use the ones Intel provides directly but due to some OEM-issues Windows insists on not installing other than OEM-stamped versions on the laptop (like with HP laptops). So we can only go with the OEM versions which drag a bit behind the latest.
Hey so when I got Skyrim, I had to update my drivers, and the Toshiba stamp made it seem impossible to upgrade to the better version of the generic intel driver. However, the good news is there IS a workaround. First download the latest driver for your computer as specified by CCP Vertex
Then, you have to run your Windows 7 in the "secret" administrator mode. This mode is normally hidden for those of you who are not computer geniuses (myself included). To do this, follow the steps outlined here:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/
Now, in terms of changing your graphics driver, now that you are running in administrator mode, you actually have to roll back to the Standard VGA Graphics adapter (this will make it so that you don't have the tagged driver override). To do this, while in administrator mode, go to the device manager, and click on display drivers. Right click the driver and tell it you want to update the driver software, and in the next window you should be able to tell it that you want to Browse my computer for software. Then click on "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer. After doing THAT, tell it to update to the standard VGA driver... you have now successfully rolled back to a factory standard driver, and now you can finally tell it to upgrade to the generic intel driver (which is more up to date). I know that was alot of steps, but it worked and my computer (as unadvanced as it might be) runs Skyrim fine... if only it worked for Eve. Anyway, goodluck updating those drivers!
By the way... PLEASE DO BE CAREFUL IN ADMINISTRATOR MODE, YOU CAN ROYALLY SCREW UP YOUR COMPUTER IF YOU DO DUMB THINGS... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED...
Anyhoot, I will try running on SiSi as well... gotta re download the test server client. Also, appears there is an even more recent version of my Intel driver, so I will update... THEN try TQ, and if the problem persists, then try SiSi. |

Sorry to keep posting here, but another note about updating your Intel Drivers from the website cited by CCP Vertex. Make sure if you are running Windows 7 64 bit that when you download the driver update file you get the .zip version not the .exe version. Even though they both say it will upgrade your driver to version 8.15.10.2559, the .exe is actually the previous 8.15.10.2509, if you are unsure, after downloading your update check the readme file to see what version it says it is upgrading to. Basically it boils down to the fact that someone at INTEL's Download center screwed up and posted the wrong version, so I hope this post clarifys. Remember, check that the readme file is in sync with what you think you downloaded! You want version 8.15.10.2559!! |

It seems to be getting even worse now as occasionally my screen will not come back on after going black. If I'm lucky alt tabbing will work but I've already had to restart the game twice after jumping now. The strange thing is that I can veiw the desktop just fine but when I switch to the game it's just completely black. Luckily this doesn't happen so often. |

So, updating to the latest Intel Graphics driver did not fix the problem on TQ. Unfortunately I am currently not able to access Sisi because I'm guessing the last mirrior was before I resubbed to Eve when the problem was initially fixed (I always start a trial account before resubbing to make sure it's working). I looked closer at my Log server file and I have the same instance as Max Warp when the device shuts off and then recovers.
CCP, would you like me to resubmit a bug report on TQ? Let me know here and I will do so. |

Did you do anything like change graphics drivers? or are you still running as you were before without any changes to your drivers?
Actually with the most recent driver, I just got the black screen problem where it doesnt return, luckily at the time I was running log server, so I will submit a new bug report... At the very end of it is lots and lots of red error messages... hopefully sheds some light on the problem.

Had been posting about this problem in Crucible 1.02 Issues thread. Bug report had been submitted previously but I just attached a logserver file to the original bug report # 123053.
Obviously something changed with 1.02 to cause this problem.
What changes were made between 1.01 and 1.02?
Which of those changes could possibly cause this problem?
Bughunters, devs, whoever....it appears you need to be using a machine using Intel onboard graphics or you are unlikely to reproduce this. If you use a machine with Intel onboard graphics you will reproduce the problem when you load the client, when you undock and when you jump.
Could it have something to do with the window pinning code? That was gone in Crucible 1.00 and 1.01 and back in 1.02. |

I'm noticing that the screen will now occasionally not recover when blacking out.
I will note that, at least with Windows 7 users, pressing CTRL+ALT+DLT to bring up the Task Manager screen and backing out will bring you back to your desktop. From there you can just maximize the game client and continue on. Doesn't solve the issue, but at least you won't have to restart your computer.

Well considering it's not affecting the majority of players, just "those idiots with onboard graphics" it probably won't be fixed for a looong long time. From what I understand this has been a problem up until crucible, which fixed it, at least until now. So how many years was that before it finally got fixed, only to be broken again? |

Actually, the problem didn't really start until they changed to the Carbon Based graphics in Incarna (at least for me that's when it started) which was only like 6-8 months ago, then it was fixed in Crucible (I don't know if they deliberately 'fixed' it or if it was just something they removed/changed after Incarna) I'm still optimistic provided we get regular updates from the devs. As CCP Vertex stated, they were pursuing leads, though I am curious as to what those leads are. I would also like to know if they are using a computer with the Intel Integrated chip to reproduce the issue. Also, CCP has *traditionally* provided excellent customer service, however, over the last year or two (and this is in MY OPINION) that started to lapse, but recently as Crucible has shown, I do get the impression that they are trying to recover on the Customer Service End of things, so I do think CCP Vertex is sincere when they are trying to replicate and address the issue. I know the issue is obviously frustrating to those of us currently experiencing it, and unless they were to fix it "right the hell now" it won't be fast enough, but for myself, so long as they keep us updated *daily* on progress (but let's face it they probably aren't working over the weekend), and give us some real information (basically treat us like the savvy Eve online users that we are) then I am satisfied for now.
Anyway, that's my rant. |

I hope they do fix it quickly, because it's gotten to the point of being basically unplayable for me. I'm playing on a Dell Latitude laptop, and the exact same situation as everybody else -- this problem was present last month when I started playing, it went away entirely when Crucible 1.00 was released, and it came back with a vengeance with 1.02. |

I noticed the daily server count dropped a lot on average after the patch that caused this. I can only think it's directly related to the complications it's making. So I'm assuming this thing is affecting somewhere in the range of 10,000 - 15,000 accounts based on the daily high drop off. |

So I've been googling for workarounds, and I have tried most of the reasonable suggestions that people who also experienced this issue have said, which mostly include editing registries having to do with TDR, which stands for Timeout Detection and Recovery. Supposedly Windows 7 and vista have this "feature" where if your system seems to "lag" or abruptly change framerate it causes a sudden shutdown and restart of the graphics driver, hence the black flicker. Also, in terms of the "black screen of death" there is a set number of times within a period of time that if this happens, the driver doesnt recover and instead waits an even longer time to restart. Now, in Vista there is a registry called "TdrDelay" that the default is "2" which means after 2 seconds of supposed "lag" it will do the reset. However, in Windows 7 they have gotten rid of or replaced with registry key with something entirely different. I tried adding the registry key as was suggested here:
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/51028-help-me-configure-registry-correctly-solve-tdr-issue.html
but that did not seem to solve the problem in Eve. Anyway, if anyone wants to try those steps feel free, like I said, being restricted to "high sec" in order to safeguard from computer problems really is boring... |

No luck here. First tried increasing the Tdr delay which just.. well, caused a longer delay before crashing the driver. I then tried completely turning Tdr off, which I recommend against doing as upon running eve with it off your computer will have to be force restarted and Tdr turned back on. Reason being eve just completely hangs the computer. I could move the mouse freely but could not alt tab, ctrl alt del, nothing. Just completely locked on eve. I waited for over 10 minutes for it to respond and nothing. There goes that glimmer of hope :/ |

Hey so you were actually able to disable TDR? are you running windows 7? how did you do it, cause I added teh D_Word TdrDelay and set it to 0 and I still got the same black screen flicker, so I didn't think it did much of anything. In all likelyhood I did it wrong anyway. I had to add TdrDelay and TdrLevel as Dwords and then I just left them both at 0, and it had no effect whatsoever. So if I did it wrong, please let me know. |

Add TdrLevel and set that to 0, but as I said in my above post. Highly not recommended as it WILL crash your pc when you run eve. I did find a temp solution though :) try that out. |

After a **** ton of google searching, apparently the problem stems from interaction with the 3D drivers which is why some people can fix their problem by screwing around with those particular settings. NVIDA apparently patched this problem but other graphics cards have not.
So for the devs... are you looking into a problem where eve is interacting with the 3D? I mean, should it even be interacting with 3D displays? |

Thanks for checking MJ Incognito,
Could you please do the following:
1. Go to your laptop control panel 2. Click on the 'Intel Graphics & Media' section 3. Go to Options & Support then Information Center
At the bottom of that section you should see the Processor Graphics name. i.e. Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
Please type which HD model you have.
If anyone else is experiencing these issues please complete the above and post your GPU model number in this thread. CCP-áVertex -á|-á Art Quality Assurance-á | -áTeam Trilambda

In the instructions I believe it said sislauncher would copy the files. Anyway, I copied them and tried Singularity. I undocked, jumped 2 systems and docked. Quit game and repeated. Still get the black screen at client load, each undock and each jump.
Added 2 files to my original bug report # 123053. The file you just asked for from the save button and dxdiag.
Sorry dxdiag was not provided earlier. |

Dell Latitude E6410
Tried previous workarounds (http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1529941&page=1#10) and adjusting the TdrDelay with no luck. Alt-tabbing before jumps sometimes helps, but not very often :(
I sent a bug report a few days ago and was informed the team is already aware of the bug. Should I resubmit with additional info at this point?
edit: Also tested setting TdrLevelOff to 0 with no luck. |

After reading this forum and doing some research on my own, I have been able to fix my graphics problem of when undocking/docking and jumping thru gates. i am running an acer aspire 7741z. what i did was the following
go to control panel went to the intel graphics and media clicked on the 3D tab set it to custom settings went to the vertex processing and selected the enable software processing. clicked apply and the started eve.
after doing all of that i have not had ANY problems with eve blanking out or crashing.
I hope this helped. I will see if i can figure out the same steps for other computer as well.

Tried this and no luck. I've also tried the test server and am having the same problem. I've got two logserves from the test server to upload, one from a jump and one from launching the game. Just to know know whether I should make a new petition or attach them to my current one.

for the other setting on the 3d the texture quality is set at balance the anisotropic filtering is sett for application settings and the vertical sync is set to application settings.
if you want to do a restart then you may. I didnt. I also help a corpmate fix their dell desktop and their laptop which was a dell is the same fashion. they are not having anymore problems with the graphics.. |

I tried restarting with no effect. I'm pretty sure changes like these happen immediately. Intel's software would instruct you if you had to restart.

Same problem here. Resubbed today after a year break to get this flickering screen, often crashing the computer after jumps and session changes. Can i have my money back please? The game as is is unplayable. Thanks.
And yes, I am also using Intel I3 processor with dual graphic cards in my laptop (Intel HD onboard card for work and stuff plus Nvidia card for games). The problem seems to be with I3 processor and dual graphic card setups like my laptop has I think. Eve graphic settings menu shows that its using Intel card, although I have manually set it up so that when Eve starts computer should automatically switch to Nvidia card. Laptop model is Asus U30J. MB version U30JC. |

From what I've heard eve will automatically use the primary gpu, you can't manually change it. At least not through the eve client. People have said there is software that allows you to pick the card you want to use though, just search around the forums.

I GOT MY ISSUE FIXED!
Heres how, no idea if it works for others. I use this little program that i downloaded ed from somewhere, filename NvGPUStateViewer64 that comes with Nvidia Optimus Tools 64 bit to see which graphic card (Intel or Nvidia one) is in use and to force programs to use Nvidia gpu if needed. It looked weird. Programs that needed to use Nvidia GPU did not use it anymore, instead used Intel GPU.
It seems that MS or Intel with one of their latest updatest messed up graphics card software somehow that uses Optimus technology. No longer were apps able to turn on Nvidia gpu for some weird reason, only Intel gpu was used, also by games. Due to having total 5 laptops in the house I always used automatic updates on them, never payed much attention tbh to save time so no idea when exactly the drivers got messed up.
Here is how I got my Asus working: Updated only my Nvidia graphics drivers which I got from here (only for Asus U30JC, not for other computers): http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=U30Jc&p=3&s=253
I did not update drivers from there manually before, because my computer comes with Asus Liveupdate software which apparently is malfunctioning and does not update anything automatically as it turned out now.
I did not do anything with Intel HD cards driver software, it stayed the one that Windows update provides automatically.
And problem solved, now NvGPUStateViewer64 shows that Nvidia card is switched on when game (EVE) starts and Intel is switched on when excel or firefox starts automatically, as it should be. Also flickering/crashing when session changes in EVE is now gone.
So people with dual graphic cards and Core I3 processors in their computers, try get newest Nvidia / ATI drivers from your laptop / desktop manufacturers site, hopefully there are proper ones available. No need to mess with Intel HD card drivers, they are not the problem (at least in my case were not).
I got no solution for people with only Intel HD graphic card, sorry. |

Problem is still there with 1.03. I can't be sure but it may not have happened the first time on client load, but then I undocked and jumped and the problem is still there. Exited, loaded client again and did get the black screen that time.
It seems like it's loading much faster now. I don't know if it just went by so fast that I missed it on the first client load or if the problem did not happen that one time. Previously, on jumps the checking navigation systems bar would get to 40-60% and I would get the black screen. Now it gets to 100% (or very close) before the black screen.
Edit: The game is unplayable in high sec as well. Might not be as likely to lose a ship and/or get podded but there is still a chance. I am not willing to take that chance when I can crash on undock or jumps. I am training skills and do an occasional test undock or jump, that's it. Fun! I will be requesting that additional time be added to my subscription. I am waiting until the problem is fixed so I know how many days to ask for. |

I also can say this patch did NOT work for me, i have tested it in all the following ways
-lowered the graphics to the lowest, still does it -changed all the setting sync and asymmetric settings - still crashes undocking / system gates / and client load.
Sad to say, i agree that we should get some compinsation because it really is kinda unplayable when you cant even go from system to system without crashing and that 5 seconds to 30 seconds is really what makes or breaks your escape from the gate. |

Well, yeah patch 1.03 didn't fix the issue, but since it seems the majority of us tried it early on Sisi I wasn't really expecting it to either. My next idea is to see if I can download Crucible at version 1.0.0 to at least see if it still doesn't get screen flicker at the login screen and I can run log server and submit that so perhaps there is at least some data from before things got messed up so there is a direct comparison.
QUICK UPDATE: So yeah... having difficulty finding a place I can download a version of Eve between Crucible 1.0.0 and 1.0.2... so if anyone has any (legit) places I could grab it, let me know... |

I'm also having massive troubles with my Macbook Pro setup with the Core i5 Intel HD graphics card.
Not only did the crucible patch make the game almost unplayable (from a point of almost 30-40fps no sweat) -- but there are some nasty artifacting and other glitches that make it impossible to play. There is also this weird black rotating artifact when warping.. Here are some screenshots to show the problem:
Screenshot 1 Screenshot 2 Screenshot 3
It's frusterating, because CCP promised to start doing things right for this game, but there seems to be a section that goes backwards. Like I said, before Crucible, I was able to play on my MBP at 30-40fps EASILY... now I'm lucky to get 20fps with the camera pointing to blank space :(
CCP really needs to address this.

Hmm, that seems to be a combination of a mac problem and an Intel problem. Also, are you getting the issue where you jump and the screen flickers black and returns about 2 seconds after the screen has loaded after you jump? That's the primary issue here |

I do experience that problem as well...
As for my original issue, should I post a new thread? It seems as if the performance problem is around the board as far as Intel GMA video setups are concerned...

Ishivan Zock wrote:Well, yeah patch 1.03 didn't fix the issue, but since it seems the majority of us tried it early on Sisi I wasn't really expecting it to either.
Does anyone know if I just download the Eve Online Installer what version it will install? (Will it install with Crucible 1.0.3 or does it have to go through the update process) Let me know if anyone knows so I can test my theory. |

So unfortunately, Eve's self updater is SO advanced (yes sarcasm) that it automatically updates to Crucible 1.0.3 even if you are running off of Incarna, so there is no way I can see to get Eve to start up with Crucible 1.0.0 where the problem had initially been fixed so I could run a side by side log server analysis of the login screen between both versions.
I guess we'll have to leave it up to the pros... unless anyone else has any good ideas... |

The issue is that I happen to have my old EVE installer from Incarna (when the whole screen flicker problem originally started) my thought process was that after Installing EVE on incarna, the old update process would make me update through every single build, which would mean I would eventually hit Crucible 1.0.0 and I could perform my analysis, but instead it automaticaly goes from Incarna to Crucible 1.0.3 where the problem remains. My suspicion is that a line of code that was taken out in Crucible 1.0.0 came back in 1.0.2 (both my parents were IT specialists, and they said that programmers always have this kind of conflict when a bug is gotten rid of by one programmer and comes back with another). |

Hmm, could this hringur.dds be the problem? it says unsupported format... does anyone know, or am I just shooting in the dark here? I checked some of my log server reports from jumping that I took previously, and the hringur.dds is always there and is always in an unsupported format... whatever that means. Hopefully the devs see this and know what it is. |

Well, after running a logserver while alt tabbed(when the driver doesn't have to restart) I can still see that entry.

But as you can see my driver never crashes so it doesn't seem like that's it, although it is suspicious. I tried extracting the actual textures from eves .stuff files to see exactly what that texture was, but I couldn't figure out how to get them out.
I'm going to go through all of the .stuff files with a hex editor though and pinpoint which one actually holds the hringur.dds and then work from there.
Also as a side note, I'm also getting that same error message on muzzleflare.dds and beamsoftend.dds so it seems irrelevant. |

If you want to download crucible 1.0 it can be done in the form of offline installer. The addresses are:
content.eveonline.com/321452/eveonline_321452_1of2.7z part 1 content.eveonline.com/321452/eveonline_321452_2of2.7z part 2 content.eveonline.com/321452/EVE_Online_Installer_321452.exe installer
But be warned that you cannot play with this build as it is not compatible with current client. so you can only test the startup issue. |

Hi all, I wanted to just give you all an update so you don't lose hope. We are still looking into this issue but have yet still been unable to reproduce on any of our in house hardware. We are looking at getting one of the same laptops you are experiencing the issues on to have a better chance of debugging this.
The logserver reports from all of your bugreports do not give us any leads as to what is going on, so we need to reproduce this in the office. I will update you as soon as I have any news.

Laptops?? This is nothing to do with laptops! I have the same (f#cking annoying) issue again and again on a desktop. Happens more often when being docked and/or in the process of undocking.

That is odd. So far this was reported only on Intel graphic card. Do you have any other graphical chip in your machine (ie onboard one) - even if supposedly disabled? |

No - only the nVidia card. Sometimes it happens several times a minute, and sometimes I can go hours without any problems, which leads me to believe it has to do with certain environments/items/whatever having to be rendered. Just guessing... |

Several times a minute? Are you sure you have the same issue? Can you describe the symptoms?
The issue discussed in this thread is black screen during every jump and during startup. Which so far seems to be problem only on certain Intel chips. SO if you have exactly same issue it implicates that the issue is not hardware related. |

Just out of curiosity has anyone with the current issue tries running eve in compatibility mode? With say xp or something? I will attempt it when I get home. But in the meantime...

I'm prolly shooting in the dark here but I'm on break from my job and grad school work (writing my thesis on online gaming) so I'm trying to fix the problem as I like to keep busy. Welp, I have a Toshiba and I have the same issue, so it's nothing to do with Dell. Anyway, I tried running Eve in compatibility mode, no change either. :-( The window's 7 64 may have some relevance, but at the moment I can't think of a way to test it. |

If you want to send me a private eve mail with a real life e-mail address I will gladly forward you live server reports from both versions where all I do is get to the login screen then turn off the game, I did some comparison myself, nothing popped up out of the ordinary, even the whole error with hrigular.dds (or whatever it was called) showed up in 1.0.0, so as the dev said it wasn't the problem. I am curious about MJ Incognito's idea about the Transparency Displays, because I do beleive there was some stuff about that when they changed the UI in 1.0.2. However, here is my disclaimer, it is entirely possible I have no clue what I'm talking about. |

Subscription cancelled.
Not paying for something I can't play (once my sub runs out). Was nice for about 2 weeks...Crucible 1.0.0 and 1.0.1. Since 1.0.2 I spend more time checking this forum than in the game. Almost 10 days with no fix and several days without any updates as to where they are with a fix. It really sucks because I cancelled sub to another game to have more time to play EVE.
Hope they fix it for you soon. |

Well, as for my subscription, it really depends on if A) the issue gets fixed or B) if the devs keep us updated on progress. So I'll make that decision, the game is PLAYABLE with all the graphics settings turned down (still gets flicker, but it's quicker and I dont get permalock... at least so far... Anyway, I do want to see what they come up with after the holidays. |

Game is playable in empire. Leave empire and run into a gate camp or a warp bubble, and your client crashes, either your ship warps off and sits in space waiting to be scanned down for like 30 minutes, or you log back in as fast as possible, and warp back to your previous location and wait to die. |

Like I said, we're a minority. It's a minor problem, don't expect it to be a priority. Clearly the fact that they had no problem breaking it again after fixing it shows their attitude toward the issue. If fixing this problem means removing an "improvement" it won't happen as there isn't a big enough group of people having the issue. |

Hi all, I just wanted to give you all an update. We havenGÇÖt been able to reproduce the issue in-house but we're looking at purchasing some new hardware to assist with this investigation.
We're also involving INTEL as the 'reset' is happening in the device driver and not the game client, if the game crashed then we would have crash dumps that would help us pin point the issue but because it's a driver reset no crash dump is generated.

Great to hear! Quick question:, You mentioned the crash dump files, would they be useful to you guys and is there a way we could submit those? If so, where would I find them? |

wtf, I got a reply from the petition I posted and was told that CCP would not be doing anything to fix this problem.
Quote:Intel were notified of this over a year ago but it seems they have not managed to update the drivers in order to solve the issue. Our developers have done all they can without compromising stability and compatibility towards other graphics cards.
and then later, after they listed some suggestions to get it working from my end they say
Quote:If none of the above suggestion help I'm afraid there's nothing we can do to solve this issue for you.
I would also like to say, that this bug just cost me a manticore in 0.0, and it was killed by an npc rat on the gate when my client crashed. |

Here is what I take from the dev that posted in this thread, and the one from my petition.
a) they really don't know what is happening here b) the left doesn't know what the right hand is doing c) one hand, we'll call it the right, doesn't realize that crucible 1.0 fixed the problem, and then 1.2 unfixed the problem d) also, clearly, from my petition, the right hand doesn't care e) the 'left' hand is trying to buy a computer
Also, I think this problem is more widespread than people think. I've come across others in EVE that just didn't know what call what they were experiencing, one had even gone so far as to re-install windows and all drivers as I have, with no success, and others didn't even notice the screen blanking until I mentioned my problem.
What is sad from this, is that some people don't know this is a problem, and just accept EVE crashing every few jumps as normal and stable. |

This is the latest response I have from my petition in regards to what happened to between Crucible 1.0 and 1.2, and why it seemed to be fixed in 1.0 and then unfixed in 1.2.
Quote:There have been problems with the Intel graphics cards for over a year, it's only affected some Intel users before but after the UI changes made in Crucible Intel graphics card seemed to work better. Unfortunately that was caused by a bug which plagued all nVidia and ATI graphics cards, after the bug had been fixed the former problems arose with Intel again. I truly am sorry but we can regrettably not fix the issue, the ball is with Intel at this point
This was written by senior GM Retrofire.
From this I conclude, that CCP in fact fixed the Intell issue, but took the fix/bug away when nVidia and ATI users experienced problems. |

The update is appreciated! Been having the same issues myself on my new desktop. The petition I filed says that aside from a few select tricks here and there, there isn't much that can be done. From this forum though it looks like the books aren't totally closed on this one as the petition would imply. Or are they? --Lochness

The longer they push Intel users off, the bigger the problem becomes. The truth is that Intel chipsets are very popular and even people with ATI and nVidia cards are also having this issue because they have Intel chipsets as well. |

it's in the linked post... it depends on which version of windows you have, but just set it to show 50.... then Ctrl f the "8.15.10.2413" and look for the correct version... I think there were 2 or 3 versions for different windows. |

So, there were two drivers of this version for graphics. Whatever the actual version whether it be 15.17.17.64.2413, or 8.15.10.2413 does not make a difference, not with any settings I try on the graphics. I believe the celebration was premature. On top of matters, this guy was using an i5 at 1.33ghz, with 2 gigs of ram, I'm on an i5 at 2.8 ghz with 16 gigs of ram. |

So here is what I found. Going through drivers, from oldest to latest, I found that literally the oldest driver actually works. But, and this is huge hairy butt, it runs like absolute garbage. I mean I might as well be back to the newer version where at least the graphics look like something from this era and not the original duke nukem.
To get to that version is just idiotic also, and so is their versioning system. You get to the download center, go through the menus and if you are on windows 7 64-bit, there are 9 total drivers. The one you want is this.
Quote:Installs graphics driver version 15.16.5.64.2021 (8.15.10.2021) for Intel-« integrated graphics.
The official version, listed in the version column is the first one, the 15.16.5.64.2021, and when you click on it you have two more options; you can get the one from 2009, or the one from 2010. The one from 2009 is the only one that works, every other driver does not work. Here's the most fabulously screwed up part, the update to it, from 2010, runs the graphics beautifully with everything turned on and turned to high, or everything turned off and turned to low, doesn't matter, runs beautiful, and smooth either way for me, but... you can't undock or jump systems without the damned screen blanking.
So if you have a high-end system and are used to high-end graphics, run from EVE as fast as you can, you will never get EVE playing functionally again at this rate. If you on the other hand have a crappy system anyway with a 1.33 ghz i5 with two cores, and only 2 gigs of ram, you won't notice a difference. It'll play choppy as all hell, and look blocky and blobby, like I'm sure you're already used to anyway.
So... CCP, ball is in your court.
I will try my gf's laptop as well, which is same comp dell n5010, but the processor is an i5 at 4 cores with 2.66 ghz instead of 2.8, and only 8 gigs of ram, instead of 16, but I don't expect there to be a difference. If I don't post a reply stating so, then there was no difference.
EDIT: UPDATE: No difference on the other laptop. Also, I can't overstate how bad the graphics are in the 2009 version of the driver. It makes me want to rip out my skeleton; throw it through my window and go running down the street with my bones clacking like mad. It is just terrible. |

All graphics on High: 35-45 FPS from planet to planet, but I did have a rather low fps outside an Amarr station in Pelkia: around 12-18 fps, However inside the station was 30-34FPS. Ill test in an Incursion later today.

Jimi, I tried the settings that were suggested when I installed that 2009 driver that got rid of the problem. When I got in game, noticed the horrible choppiness, I quit game, changed settings to the default which was mostly set to application settings, and and also tried several configurations, it really didn't make a difference. I also tried a restart in between different settings, no difference. Just so horribly choppy, while docked in ship hanger, and when undocked.

I agree, petition Intel as well. If someone thinks they can write a good letter, post it in the forums and we'll all send it in, signed by ourselves. But, don't let CCP forget about this issue. Somehow I can play MW3 perfectly fine, but not EVE. I can't play EVE perfectly fine as well, so long as I don't dock/undock or change systems....

If I join a game and it works fine, and the developers issue an upgrade, and then it doesn't work any longer... it's not the hardware's fault... It's the game designers...
CCP has done this before... I like EVE... I played it before for almost 3 years... Got bored went to some other games... Decided to come back and see what had changed...
It's a good game, with lots of good players... But at this point I will not be renewing my subscription...

Well here's the thing about CCP, if they don't think the amount of subscribers affected by the issue pays for the work to put into fixing it, it's not going to get fixed.
In other words, the amount of people having this problem isn't enough for CCP to care. Our few subscriptions aren't worth enough for them to work toward keeping so they're not going to, it's that simple. Intel is our only option so we might as well try. CCP has already stated they aren't, and they don't plan to ever fix it.(Just more of CCPs F the customers policy for you.) |

That would happen, I'm considering following suit with cancelling my subscription as well. If that is how they are gonna be, while it is financially smart, is not human. I am not bad mouthing anyone on this part, but this issue came from something rather small. Being in college and all, I want to make my money go as far as it can go, and subscribing to a different game, or reactivating my xbox live and playing modern warfare 3, there are other games, I just want to say it's a shame, because after all, I really liked this game =/ It seems like the posts from the devs have stopped and they have removed themselves from the issue best they can. |

You know you can play Eve-Online for free right? buy an ingame Plex. it takes about 5-10 hrs of play to get a month free doing incursions.

That's not the point. Ccp gets paid either way and they should do more to support the customers who are supporting them. Whether you pay with money, or with plex they get paid and in my opinion you should be getting what you pay for, not just what ccp feels you're worth. Its more about principle than anything. It doesn't matter if its "free" or not because in the end they get paid. In fact they actually get more for that "free" subscription and its pretty sad for a company that you're paying to say "hey, your custom isn't worth our time" that's just pure immaturity and shouldn't even be heard of from a company with a project as big as eve. They keep up that attitude and soon it wont be just intel users leaving.
Don't wait til its too late to grow up ccp. |

Just systematically went through all the drivers Intel has to offer for my chipset's graphics; the 2009 oldest version 'fixes the issue' but my frame rate drops to roughly 2 fps on a machine with a 2.8ghz i5 and 16 gigs ram, all other drivers have screen blanking issue.
Again, using the oldest driver, turned my graphics in EVE all the way down or off where applicable. Then tried a myriad of combinations with system graphics settings. Frame rate stays about a constant 2 frame per second. That includes the opening scene of two interceptors flying past an outpost.
All other drivers allow me to turn graphics in EVE high/on where applicable, and looks beautiful with near 40fps, but, of course, there is still the issue of the bug with undocking and changing systems. I can mission a little in high sec, but anything outside of high sec, and I'm screwed. Lost a manticore to a gate rat trying to go into null sec on the laptop as a result of the bug. Luckily, I have a desktop with no problems, other than I have to turn a couple of things, that I can go to for null sec flying. |

It's definitely improved on Singularity. Undocking doesn't seem to have any issues at all, and jumping only causes a reset sometimes. I'll need to do more to see if there's any pattern there. |

Ok after some testing on the test server it seems that the bigger the ship the more likely a black screen will occur. Frigates seem fine destroyers need to be zoomed out while in space. Battleships still have black screen even when zoomed all the way out. It also occurs on a smaller ships when one of the battle ships is rendered in the scene on jump.
Over all the improvements seem a step in the right direction.

I finally had time to instal the test server client and am happy to report that none of the crash issues were occuring. I didnt spent a lot of time doing stuff, but i undocked, jumped a few systems over, docked and undocked without any issues.
I also, have not touched any of my drivers. So, hopefully, whatever fixed it makes it into the next patch.... |

EDIT:
I've reverted back to the latest drivers. The older drivers impacted other games far more than I would have liked. :( CS:S - Unplayable WoW - Looks more terrible than usual (don't know how thats possible) League of Legends - 13 fps....
So ya, reverting back ASAP.
Can't we just get a fix :(
No, because clearly its Intels/all those other games that have no issues with the drivers, that are the problem. Not CCP and Eve, no siree! |

If you had read anything on this problem, you'd know that the latest driver is in fact ******* up a **** ton of games other than just Eve. It is partly an Intel problem, but apparently, there's a way games can solve the issue, Intel is just **** at working with gaming designers after an apparent significant change to their ******* driver. |

I'll tune into Singularity when there are more +confirm posts. Until then, it's not worth updating and downgrading drivers over and over so CCP doesn't have to pay for testers. Sorry, but being stuck in sub BS isn't resolved nor alleviated.
I'm glad to see you are actually working on it though, despite all the mixed signals CCP is giving on the problem. I hope you could understand why some could be a little on edge, not being able to get a straight answer from CCP and all.

I had some more time to play around on sisi and I found that the crashes do happen but only if i have something open from the neocom (wallet, char sheet, asset tab etc.)
As long it's just my overview open my graphics card doesn't derp. Maybe this is because the neocom gave me an error 1st thing when I booted it up and is still unfinished and buggy.... but still... looks like no fix I think.

The recent patch have not fixed my problem entirely.. When i logged into the Tranquility servers, i was actually able to start the EVE client with recieving any crashing notifications.. I was also able to log on to EVE.. even undicking a station didn't come up with any crashing issues.. I then travelled 9 jumps.. first three were without any problems at all.. then it all started again.. Now i am back to a crashing Intel HD graphics issue again every time i undock, jump, log on etc..
Tried the exact same in Singularity.. No problems whats so ever in there.. Everything works as a charm.. |

I too continue to have sporadic crashing issues. Just before the patch I found the alt tab trick previously mentioned worked perfectly for me. I had to minimize all chat windows and close all neo-com stuff, and then minimize the client, wait for my toon to jump, undock etc. and everything was fine.
Last night I was flying around in a fleet and forgot to minimize the chat windows etc. Sometimes it crashed and sometimes I didn't. Next time I"ll have to run the log server and submit a bug report I guess. But it's odd how it is crashing/not crashing now. |

Any special reason why we shouldn't? It's a *driver conflict*, not a problem with rendering the actual graphics. And it's clearly not a guaranteed problem, as it didn't exist a year ago when I was playing, and for that matter it didn't exist between Crucible 1.0 and patch 1.02. |

Hey all, so I took a break since EVE seemed not to work and they weren't fixing the bug issue. However, I had seen that they had released like 9 patches in that time so I fired up a trial account and tested and tested and tested and I was happy to see they didn't have the issue (at least for me anymore). Anyway, can anyone state if they are still having the Intel graphics dark issue? I VERY HESITANTLY resubbed for Eve online, and I ask the devs to please thoroughly test upcoming patches!!!! I just payed my resub and would really hate if it broke again! That said, I'm happy to see it is fixed, (at least for me, and I haven't seen any recent complaints on this forum thread). |

I just payed my resub and would really hate if it broke again! That said, I'm happy to see it is fixed, (at least for me, and I haven't seen any recent complaints on this forum thread).
I tried the workaround with the old driver, and haven't had any issues since (except that I have to use minimum graphics settings). I'm hesitant about trying to update to the current driver to see if the issue persists, but if you are not having issues I might try latter today. |

Or, play it in windowed mode and just minimize it while you're un-docking/jumping.

My overview randomly lags for ~10 seconds to more than a minute after jumps between systems (including through wormholes). Warping/moving to celestials through the right-click menu is impossible as well duting this period. Could this be related to the original bug? |

The recent patches have screwed something up. My laptop has dual video chips(Intel/AMD) for low/high power switching on demand without rebooting. However it appears EVE somehow is managing to activate and use the Intel chip in place of AMD for rendering even though it is not the default/active display driver. This only started happening since the Intel integrated fixes were put in place. |

Still having random crashes when exiting jumpgates. Can rarely make half a dozen jumps without EVE crashing. |

Maybe because we can? I have a 5 year old Notebook, with Windows Vista 32-bit, intergrated graphics, and 2 gigs of DRAM memory, and the game runs flawlessly. I have been playing for 2 years now, so I "Upgrade" to a new Widows System 7 64-bit dual processor notebook with "HD" graphics to "keep current" and I find that I can't jump gates without crashing?
Yet, my old notebook keeps playing on with 5 year old tech....
Tells me that it's NOT THE INTERGRATED GRAPHICS, It's an issue between INTEL HD drivers and CARBON.
I saw this 10 years ago with Voodoo OpenGL ... The Industry is having to choose who to support, and who to let FAIL.

Hi! I can say that this bug still exists, since it happens to me every time I play. Sometimes the screen just goes dark and then goes back to the game, but sometimes the game goes black, goes back to the desktop and it craches. This is really a huge problem for me since I don-¦t know when it is going to bug out or just going to black out for a second. I have contacted support and we tried several things, but sadly not one of them worked. I really have to give it to the support though, they are really professional and fast with giving you help and support. Big applause to you guys! :) /Aeress |

I started experiencing this as well. The display driver itself crashes and then recovers on undock, gate jump, and jump bridge use. It does *not* crash when docking. I'm using a Dell Latitude E4310 with Intel HD Graphics driver version 8.15.10.2104 (from 03/31/2010, though it's the most updated driver available). I believe it's the x3100 chipset.
I don't have Singularity on this machine; only Tranquility. Is there a log file I can provide that would be helpful?

Those logs could be very helpful. If you could include screenshots captured right after the driver recovers that might give me some clues. I've been banging on this for a while now on a similar laptop to no avail - I'll see if this particular driver version helps me reproduce the issue.
Next client patch will also have slightly more detailed logging directed at tracking down this issue. |

Have you tried running it in windowed mode and as soon as you hit the undock button, minimizing the window and then waiting about 20 seconds before maximizing the window? For whatever reason this works for me, and I think a few of the other people posting in this thread. |

I've added more detailed logging in the latest client patch to help track down this issue. If you still experience this consistently, run with LogServer and file a bug report to my attention.
I've spent several days trying to reproduce this on a Dell laptop with an Intel HD graphics card, with several different versions of the graphics driver and have not seen any driver crashes. It is very frustrating for me not to be able to resolve this - I know this is causing you a lot of pain, but all I can do is ask for your continued patience and to keep sending us logs. |

I've reproduced one of the crashes with the log file running, report 130086. This was with today's new build.
This is what happened right as the crash happened. (These crash the game to the taskbar, but the process still runs and task manager states it as running, rather than not responding, but all efforts to restore it to view fail. These crashes are much rarer than just the black screen that lasts a few seconds.)

When running dual client I usually don't have problems with the crashes nearly as bad. Instead of happening every jump, it usually only happens one in ten times. This seems to be tied into Windows' graphics rebooter feature. It turns off and restarts the video card when it thinks it has frozen or stopped responding. I use a TV and my laptop monitor to play, running one client of EVE on both. The crashes become more common if I'm actively using the client that is doing the jump. If I'm messing around on the other client on the other screen, a crash on the jump appears to be less likely. The same for when undocking. I think it's sort of "tricking" the windows 7 graphics rebooter by keeping the video card constantly running and loading something.
But of course, I could be wrong about everything.
EDIT: (I was not running two clients or dual screens during the prior logs) |

Im running an ACER Aspire with an Intel HD Graphics chip, and i have this issue everytime i undock or jump gates.... this has been happening ever since incarna hit the field. The original laptop i used to run EVE on, an alienware Aroura which can run Fallout 3 on all the highest graphics without even one lag spike, can't even run EVE at all without a Blue screen error.....
Tbh, i love EVE, and i will keep playing it, however, without either a fix to this current situation, or a new machine, my patience is gonna run out.
To CCP, i would like to say thanks for the continued effort to finding the problem, and i hope you succeed.

I had been using the old driver posted in this thread as a work around. For pure experiments sake today I decided to try and update to a newer driver. I tried the 1/21/12 Intel had out for the laptop GMAs (Win 7 64-bit) and I seem to have no issues at all. Tried all different graphics settings, fullscreen, fullscreen windowed, and pure windowed without any crashes. Worked with everything on and set to high as well. Seems like something got fixed one way or the other. |

I'm sorry to necro this thread, but I'd like to have some news from devs, is this bug still being watched? I tried the fix proprosed in the OP, but with the old drivers, performance are really poor and my laptop seems to suffer of a huge overheating problem.. rolled back to the latest driver today and no more overheating.. but the problem is still there (latest patches, on the other hand, had decreased blank screen a bit). |

I have a HP Pavilion dm4, Intel HD graphics, and have the same problem when using the latest drivers.
I downgraded, as suggested, and the problem is fixed. However, downgrading means I no longer have missile effects (they show beautifully with an updated driver).
I have no idea who is shooting me as there are no trails...at all, with GPU particles on or off.
Is there any update on this issue being solved, so that I can use the latest drivers? |

After further analysis, It appears that this problem is directly related to planetary rendering. This is why it doesn't happen on every single gate, but always happens on a station undock.
If anyone can further test this besides just me, try jumping through gates with no planets and with gates with planets. |
