Look at the bans on things in the name of GÇÿhealth and safetyGÇÖ for goodness sakes. They are not coming from the right. Look at the incursions into freedom of speech by the left because someone might say something that is hurtful! ItGÇÖs crazy.
I do agree that there are weirdoGÇÖs on both sides of the political spectrums but the welfare state that was created by leftists is collapsing because it was never sustainable. Look no further than your typical modern leftist statist to blame for what is going on in Europe these days.

The OP was about some dweeb's nominations for art awards in video games. Have you addressed anything about the OP link other than where it came from? No. Why not? Actually, the video and the clips it showed was rather well done. However, it is easy to just look at what was on the market and had mass appeal and then present those for an art award. Eve may some day gain recognition from some program like this. Whether that would be a good thing is debateable. Because, they've been brainwashed by Fox News and the Conservative Right has gone MUCHO extremo in the past few years, with their politicians bludgeoning the biggest most absolutely nonsensical bullshit I've ever seen. Not all left wingers are awesome, either, and I tend to agree with certain parts of both conservative/republican viewpoints and liberal/democratic viewpoints, but holy ****, Republicans have gone bat **** crazy. Just look at their current candidates for being the one to run against Obama this year. WTF, did they find these people in the looney bin? Oh, no, wait, it's just the politicians molding their message to fit the right-wing's nutjobs logic this time...
For the most part, Repubs have taken a page from the Demo playbook from the early 2000s. Besides, its not like the the Demos didn't play along or anything. Honestly, the first step in the right direction is to abolish the party system altogether. But I digress... If you bring down a giant, you're a hero. If you kill something weak-even if it has to die-then you will endure contempt. |

um... am I alone is thinking eve online doens't even hold a candle to games like rage and alice?
plus what all has been released in 2011? some rooms? some new normal maps?
I'm sorry I'm as big as an eve fanboy gets, but that list was full of games that have done great art direction. Now if eve had actully released walking in stations, it might of been on that list as the most amazing in game mmo ever, with sic art direction. Sadly, WiS will now come out when every single mmo looks just as good, and people will go, MEH.
To be 100% honest I was beyound impressed they picked such a good set of games. and for Alice to win? brilliant, that game is like a god damn painting you get to live in. Like bastion. But you don't see me complaining that bastion wasn't in that list *rolls eyes* |

Well I hope eves graphics could match its artistic vision but thats a long ways off.
However for an mmo thats about 7 years old I do say its graphics are still pertty good.
Equally just as old WoW Devs admitted they are at the point that they cannot redo the graphics engine anymore and its too late to do anything better than remodels, retexture and reparticle. Which I think is near BS considering how eve did it with trinity.
Other mmos just as old as eve decided it was much better to release '2' instead of amping up the original then again the original games only have 23 pcus these days.

No offence but how can 'space', 'stations' and 'item-icons' even be considered in the top 100?, dont get me wrong eve is pretty and nice to play (when there is reason to play) but winning in art? Nahh, maybe when incarna is in full mode and we as able to jump mid space from **** to ship, maybe but for now EVE doesnt deserve an award for art, maybe content but definitely not art. |

That said, this is for 2011 and it's MSNBC :( so they'll just award it to the publisher who screams for attention the most and gives them money.

I'm an American as well, and a liberal. I fully agree with your first statement. It's not really "the media" though, it's just language abuse to make a point, and Republicans are simply better at it. Their spin machine works better for some reason and people start accepting what they're saying as truth without reviewing it. Being liberal is a good thing! It's what pulled us up from the dark ages and differentiates us from the ME, conservative systems.
The latter part though...there are some people that call themselves "liberal" that think we need to be protected from bad thinking, art, etc... There's actually more of them on the other side, but they're more concerned about what we do in the bedroom and to whom. The big, bad "violent" video games are seen by some as cultural/moral decay that causes people to go on murderous rampages or something. Some of these people call themselves "liberals", but I agree they're really not. What's funny is that there are at least as many "conservatives" concerned about this stuff but it's somehow been spun into a bad, liberal agenda.
Frankly I agree with some parts of their POV but not the cause. We are a very violent, self-centered culture but it has absolutely nothing with video games. It's probably more the news and stupid ass reality shows than anything else. But make laws to stop it? Except for the massive war machine we're all excited about...no way.
I also think there's an inherent imbalance that's completely backward when comparing violence and sex in our culture. Sex is BAD BAD BAD. Show one nip and everyone freaks out like they've never seen it before. Tear a woman in half in a video game though....that's a protected expression of art that can't even be labeled as having "graphic content" and requiring parental consent to purchase. Our laws about sex and our obsession with keeping body parts hidden is fairly disturbed in my opinion, especially when compared to what we accept as normal, acceptable violent displays. If there was a balance here then our children's cartoons would be filled with poop fetish and S&M dungeons.
If anything though, a "liberal" might want EvE regulated so that it couldn't be sold to a 5 year old without an adult present. I don't think any of them are calling for video game *banning*...just don't peddle violence like a drug to the kids. I don't agree with their goals, but I can see their point. |

Don't get me wrong, I still love Eve (even though we sleep in separate beds) but the game's art is hardly award-winning. Ships still clip through planets/asteroids/each other, weapon fire ignores objects in line of sight, and there are a lot of other visual issues that detract from quality.

Ah, the imaginary straw-man liberals that conservatives like to rail against. Yeah, they wouldn't like any of that.
But then they're no better than the imaginary conservatives who would see EVE shut down in a heartbeat because it promotes Satanism like all role playing games do, not to mention the whole science fiction aspect (there's a "science" in science fiction, therefore it must be wrong). And don't even get me started on the whole cloning thing! This whole game is so obviously liberal propaganda it's amazing God hasn't destroyed Iceland already for it.
Personally, I try not to worry too much about what each political side's favorite straw-men opponents would like or not like, though. The sad part of politics in America today, though, is that the majority on both sides think the straw-men they've constructed are actually real... |

1) review PIcasso's work from the breadth of his entire career. 2) review Picasso's explanations for his most criticized work (mostly done in the middle of his career) and what he was working to accomplish
Picasso painted the way he's famous for because he earned the right. He did photo realistic stuff and realized that wasn't effectively communicating a message. He started his "paint what's actually there, not just what the eye sees" phase, and then moved on to his "express essential emotions through stick figures" phase before he died. CCP's art was eccentrically appealing in the old days, not really ground breaking, but appropriate. Then the art director stepped in and with a message of corporate conformity and the pursuit of sales. The art director is there elbow to elbow with Hilmar saying Sales are more important than Quality.
For those reasons alone, EVE does not deserve to be on any "best art" lists. |

Seriously, you are not this dense are you?
A dictionary definition of liberalism? You do know the meaning of nuance do you not? Today's liberals are not classical liberals in any way shape or form. Today's liberals are statist, victimhood liberals not sharing much of anything in common with this classical definition of liberalism. They are in favour of pretty much any government regulation that restricts our freedoms not enhance them.
Of course if you were even vaguely aware of politics you would know this. As well, if today's liberals adhered to this definition then the word liberal would not have the negative connotations that is assciated with it today.
Do some research - a dictionary definition doesn't cut it. (lol) |
