I'm less than a week into the game, but I saw tonight's patch notes mentioned the following:
Quote: Exploration and Deadspace
The chance of starting an Expedition while exploring a hidden dungeon have been greatly increased. While involved in an Expedition, success rates for further advancement in that Expedition path have been greatly improved.
Dungeons? Expeditions? Where do I sign up!
Seriously, my buddy and I have been taking turns with missions (he does one while I escort, then I do one while he escorts) just so we can do something together. But this sounds like something we could both benefit from. Is this available to the low level character?

You need to scan for dungeon signatures. Look up Hoshi's Scanning Guide for how to do this.
Be warned, without good skills (Astrometrics, Astrometric Pinpointing, Astrometric Triangulation and Signal Acquisition) it can be tricky to get a reading.
Scan probes can also get expensive - a corp mate of mine can burn to 5 million easily, just trying to probe down a single reading and there's always the chance that somebody has beaten you to it.

Sooo happy that Expedition chances have been improved.
I have done quite a bit of Exploration and I can say that dropping up to 5 mil in probes to find one spot is easy to do. Add to that that it has taken me as much as 8 hours to probe down one spot (I have heard of people working for 12 hours). For all of that I have yet to get a single Expedition to pop for me. Just get the first room and that has been it. Unfortunately since the Expedition popping is chance based you have no clue whether you did whatever it was to make the Expedition go or if you are just unlucky.

Hokay, first off, please please please stop calling 'em dungeons. I can't believe CCP said it either. Guess I can chalk it up to a pet peeve, but a 'dungeon' ... in space?
Anyway, Exploration can be quite skill intensive and expensive. It's also incredibly time consuming, as it can easily take an hour or more to find a deadspace complex even with decent skills. In order to help minimize the costs and maintain efficiency you really need to have a Covert Ops ship.
It will also behoove you to buy the BPO's for the probes as you are able, and make friends with an ice-miner. The materials aren't all that cheap, but at the end of the day it can cost you much, much less.
Now, as for the deadspace expeditions themselves, I can definetly look forward to hitting a few of these suckers myself. I haven't found one yet, but that's mainly because I haven't tried to scan down the signals that 'typically' come up with deadspaces. Most of 'em are either not worth it, are broken, or put you on utterly rediculous expiditions that keep you jumping all over EVE hoping to get to the next stage before the 60 minute timer expires and then get a Small Shield Booster I or 100 T1 Ammo for all your troubles.

Actually they said it, direct quote from patch notes 'The chance of starting an Expedition while exploring a hidden dungeon have been greatly increased.'

Um, read that second sentence there. "I can't believe CCP said it either ..."

Dungeon in RPG(table-top) linguage its a place where the players encounter a high number of danger's, challanges and rewards. This come from fantasy medieval RPG games where the dungeons(caves) are places like that. Well this said i think Dungeon are a good word to talk about dungeons in EVE, maybe people take some better later but for now its ok.

Hopefully exploration will be cheaper. See in the patch notes under Manufacturing:
Quote: Tech2 components required for the production of the new scanner probes (Sift, Comb, Pursuit, Quest) have been removed. Mineral requirements have also been reduced and balanced accordingly.
/me hopes these are the exploration probes...

Yup! Those are the names of the exploration probes used to pinpoint a hidden area after you confirmed one is present in your system trough the spectral analysis probe.

Why don't we call them Space Onions (SpaceOnions) because you keep moving in with probes peeling back the layers until you get to the end.
Or Spacegeons, or deadspace instances..
