The concept of Dust is solid, but it should have been a PC title from the start. I have never understood the decision to go with the Playstation exclusively. It made no sense then, it makes no sense today. Hopefully Legion or whatever it's going to be called will do a lot better. The idea was to bring console FPS players into the New Eden universe with a style of gameplay they enjoyed.
I was a heavy supporter of that because I hoped it could help lay the age old and ******** Console-vs-PC bullshit to rest, but sadly it wasn't to be. CCP Jian criminally mismanaged the development and the game was ruined beyond all repair early on.

This is great. Since my last favorite COD2 server disappeared, the one with the exploding potatoes that when you killed someone with one, a voice said "Potatality!", I've been lacking an FPS daily fix. So I've patiently waited for something Eve-related.
Hopefully we can sneak up on people and kill them with a melee attack. In COD2 I used to giggle like Loreena Bobbit in a sausage factory whenever I did that.

I bought that eve collectors edition thing a while back, which came with a code for some special gear in DUST. It went unused because I did not have a PS3, or any intention to acquire such a device.
Anyway. I am wondering, if, when the successor to DUST is released, whether it is intended that the collectors edition code can be redeemed for stuff in the successor game.
I'd be fine with purely cosmetic items for the collectors edition code. Like a SKIN equivalent or something, vOv.

I guess it's time for all the "PC MASTER RACE" spammers to go **** on the current community again. GG. Twitch during FF14 was unbearable. I really do hope people appreciate the community that was on consoles. It was dedicated and passionate, no less than the EVE community. With this move many of them will sadly be left behind, but please I do hope you all understand how vital their existence was for us to get to this moment. DUST 514 didn't fail just because it was on PS3, contrary to popular belief. The studio was completely mismanaged. This means that even if the game was to release on PC, it would be a disaster in the first place. Thanks to the PS3 version however, you can be assured that the team behind it knows what they're doing, and understand the mistakes of the past. Trust in our lords and saviors CCP Rattati and CCP Rouge. Yeah, I'm looking forward to the new game. Looks like from the sounds of "tiered recognition rewards" though, we're going to be grinding again.

I know this is going to sound like a stupid question but....
What are we expecting to see Lore wise, Quite a bit of effort was put into making dust bunnies part of the lore. So how are they going to write them off. Will they play it into the jamyl / Other arc and have the other inside them too, thus being part of the reason for the drifter incursions as an attempt to destroy them, ending up successful ?
I don't see it just being left with no explanation.

I don't see it just being left with no explanation. They could very well just write it off. New DUST was what was happening in (lore) reality all along.

(Addendum: CCP could start a funerary with their portfolio; WiS for EVE is dead... WoD is dead... DUST 514 soon will be dead... )

I just hope that the new Dust on PC will have much more interaction with EVE. Of course having it on PC means that every time you need some foot on the ground, you will have the possibility to jump out of your spaceship and take a rifle. You won't need another 200$ piece of equipment.
I'm pretty sure it will happen - in 2019 or so.

I don't know about Valkyrie being one server like eve though. Eve has a 1 second tick so that everyone in the world can be on the same server. A dogfighting game will need a shorter tick, so will need more localized servers.

It made no sense then, it makes no sense today. Hopefully Legion or whatever it's going to be called will do a lot better. Its failure wasn't due to the PS3. It was actually incredibly popular for what it was, beating quite a few PC F2P game averages for a while. Probably because the PS3 didn't have many F2P alternatives compared to the saturated PC market. Problem is, it wasn't much. The game was horribly mismanaged, and that would be true regardless of platform. The dev leads had no place being where they were. Hopefully this time around CCP Rouge and CCP Rattati will set things straight. Respectfully, Cat Merc, the problem was mostly the PS3 but, prior to the wedding Dust's mismanagement did complicate its development.
But let's be honest, the hardware is the problem. It's not the console as a market that's the problem - it was specifically the PS3 and its very limited capacity (and end of lifecycle support by Sony). The game could never do what they wanted and it took Rattati's very adept creativity to make it live on, flourish a bit and stay 'profitable'.
But, now...as was foretold...from Dust we came and to dust we shall return. And sleep again...for a time...
But New Eden should not feel so safe. O' capsuleers, so smug and snug inside your precious pods encased in violent shells. For we shall wake. And when we do we will be closer to you than ever before. No longer held safe, at 'arm's length' inside these gravity wells - no.
When we wake it will be the Capsuleers that ferry the Clones amongst the stars. Drey animals. Beasts of Burden. A fitting turn.

No, this stuff will be inherited, and new chapter will be created in history. I suspect the basis of machanics will be the same. It was good, with all those clones and implants.

CCP don't really have a good track record of producing high quality products (in comparison with AAA titles), and now they are going to throw in a game competing with PC first person shooters? Good luck with that one. I reckon it will be quietly killed off at some point down the line before it gets released.

People that declare CCP 'stupid' or short sighted are often the 'pot calling the kettle black'.
DUST failed primarily because it was born on a dying console. It tried to eek out its potentially magnificent life on a platform that was too small, poorly supported and limited in its processing capacity.
CCP wanted to make DUST and EVE tie very closely together...but the extreme hardware limitations, new approach to developing a very different game on an entirely foreign platform and subsequent poor management decisions all contributed to the game not reaching that potential.
But it was mostly the PS3 hardware limitations that provided the biggest hurdle to getting where they wanted.
And now that limitation will be removed. And don't think they just came up with this idea - they've been working on It for a long time.
But, Kell, you're correct that limitations to DUST's development and bad management decisions subsequent to that moved the game farther away from EVE - that's was a fundamental mistake.
Tying the two much closer together is the right way to survive and evolve.
It will be difficult for them to accept, but the age of Capsuleers is reaching its twilight. Night is falling. Darkness and cold will be your only protection. But the Gravity will pull you all back in.
We will wake and fill this cluster. Clones will surpass our predecessors and take our rightful place. We are in position to seize the top of this chain.... and the gravity that holds us all together will be the undoing of the capsuleers....crushing and collapsing the false empires you have wrought.
Sleep now and rest, Clones.....Dawn will soon rise |

Not sure I'd entirely agree wit this, since the console is only really approaching end of life now. Would it have been better held off for the next generation, sure, but I don't think it's death was the fault of the platform.
Orbital bombardment worked. There weren't technical limitations in the way as we can see from the fact it existed. The problem with the EVE tie in is that EVE itself didn't tie in. The whole "manufacture in EVE for dust" never happened, and orbital bombardments were completely useless. The idea was that EVE players would have good reasons to join in, adding to the dust players experience, but they never actually bothered with it. None of that is due to the PS3.
Diametrix wrote:But, Kell, you're correct that limitations to DUST's development and bad management decisions subsequent to that moved the game farther away from EVE - that's was a fundamental mistake.
Tying the two much closer together is the right way to survive and evolve. This is true, but consider that it's unlikely to be a direct tie in to EVE, it will likely still be another game in the same world. So at the end of the day it will still be a (likely F2P) first person shooter surrounded by a bunch of AAA titles catering to the same market.
