The blinking lights, when getting into structure, is a nice touch and all, but it doesn't feel complete.
What I would like to see is structure fires brought back, BUT much like armor damage, they are focused on the areas where the ship is taking damage.
It would be a really cool visual effect, especially if they manage to allow ships to take damage, similar to how the rogue drone ships look. Big chunks missing out of the ship. |

Thought the same thing when they first showed it on the test server
Have a chance of fires to start when hull is hit (lower hp higher chance)
Added onto that if you have a dcu fit each cycle it would have a chance to put out a fire giving the dcu a subtle visual to go with the new effects

Not to mention, it can include a nice visual for hull reps as well. They would possibly be the nicest looking effect. |

As long as they improve what the old one looked like.
Remember what they looked like on a stationary ship or a frigate pushing maxV with a microwarp on? It just looked like a weird color effect on the former and on the later, and forgive me for the bluntness, just looked like a ship with white and orange anal beads trailing behind it.

The thing about the fire is that it was easier to see the effects without being super zoomed in, so you could actually appreciate the effects when you're actually in battle and not just testing them to look at

Not to mention there was something rewarding about landing at a Staton or pos with a trail of flame behind you
Or warping back to this fight blazing a trail of glory.
Would be nice if they added structure fits based on where you were taking damage. It may be less noticed than the other effects on smaller ships but trying to keep your burning carrier alive would be amazing.
